"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Still no deal for Tiger and Bunny yet? That's lots of money they are leaving on the table. Tiger and Bunny = printed money that will set you to mansion land.

I would like to see it happen but the show's already been released at this point (and is selling obviously) so the loss is more on AS than on Viz. It may show up much later down the road when Viz can offer it at a cheaper price because the fact that Toonami still has yet to air anything recent since Deadman Wonderland means their acqusition budget still isn't good enough. Of course since the ratings have gotten more consistent they may be able to get something recent to replace GXP but I won't get my hopes up again after getting shot down everytime.

Ah freaking broadcast politics. Oh well. Just seems like this is the perfect show for the new block and when you have superheroes dominating everywhere this is like the perfect anime pastiche of all that.

Also GunXSword. I don't see how GunXSword would be such a hard acquisition to get based on what we've been recently been seeing come to the block. Not a new show, but perfect for Toonami.

I'm really hoping what Zap2It has is correct. I took a small peek into the DST night, and Sym-Bionic Titan and Eureka 7 are skipped (as expected), but when I looked a bit further, I noticed something interesting:

Perhaps they ARE making up for lost time?

Adult Swim sneaking into CN's morning hours? That would be interesting.

Yeah, like Shakugan no Shana. It's a pretty good show. It does have its detractors, however (i.e. Classic Speedy). Still, I recommend that you be your own judge.
Shana is currently airing on the FUNimation Channel.

I wonder if theyve ever considered getting Excel Saga. It would be nice to get a comedic anime on Toonami (well, i guess GXP could be considered a comedy), and the various parodies of classic anime would make it a good fit. The only problem is that its slightly old (it debuted in 1999). And as for ep. 26, they could just not air it or censor it as need be.

Amen to that bro. Just finally bought my copy(GXS) on Amazon, but they're being lame with their delivery timing. Ugh. It truly is perfect for Toonami, and its 7 yearls old, so hopefully its in the similar price range as Casshern Sins(which both streamed on Netflix)

The mecha(G Gundam style), the story line(Kill Bill), the tag along sidekick(pokemon), No care attitude loner(Spike-CowboyBebop). Its just solid solid stuff. GXS and Gurren Lagann would be great additions.

Maybe the reason they never picked up GunXSword is because they found it too derivative of other anime out there including ones they ran? Just saying.

So according to the tumblr it seems nobody at Toonami likes Korra? Surprising, given the crossover both in crew and style between Korra/Airbender and Thundercats.

I don't know what you mean as in crew and style. Studio 4C(Japan) animated Thundercats, while MOI Animation(Korea) animated TLA. A really new studio took the helms of Korra, but I personally don't really like the style of Korra. Everything in TLA felt "full" The 2D characters blended well with the cgi animations/vehicles/etc as well as the backgrounds. Also, although the show was 2D, the distancing was well used to give a faux sense of depth.

Basically MOI are experts in 2D depth and distance and epic fight scenes. Example: Young Justice battles with Black Beetle. Very very dynamic. The whole area is used. Young just get a sense of depth. Its unfortunate MOI didn't work on Korra, but their hands were full with both Young Justice and Ultimate Spiderman(should've let someone else animate such a weak show. Not bad, just weak).

In Korra, the 2D characters kinda feel slapped on the backgrounds. Its a 2D show, but there's no "depth". The Bending sport matches are an example of what I'm talkin about.

I was talking more about how some of the directors from A:TLA went on to produce Thundercats.

Unless he had a changed of heart, it isn't Jason who likes Korra. He is none to fond of Avatar.

The proper DST schedule was announced on Toonami's Tumblr.

12:00a- Bleach
12:30a- Naruto
1:00a - Soul Eater
1:30a - Thundercats
3:00a - Tenchi Muyo GXP
3:30a - FMA: Brotherhood
4:00a - Cowboy Bebop
4:30a - Cowboy Bebop
5:00a - Inuyasha
5:30a - Inuyasha
So yeah, we lose Titan and E7 for the night, but no bleedthrough to the later morning hours.

As long as they show episode 30 of Eureka Seven the following week, I'll be okay.

Since Titan already had a full run and I still don't really like Eureka Seven, I'm okay with this.

I just started watching Titan too...

But like El-Hazard said, as long as it airs the following week, then I'm fine with it.

They might have a special promo segment or bumper to celebrate the anniversary though.

Keep in mind that Adult Swim loves screwing with people when it comes to the schedule. That schedule may be a placeholder and nothing more.

What's with the random Loiter Squad hour for one week before Toonami? A placeholder definitely seems possible.
