If they do they don't mention it there. Pretty much the entire thing is "We have a good relationship with Aniplex now, oh, and SAO is doing great." It's obvious they more meant about the relationship.

This premise is horribly flawed. Why would Toonami bend over backward to make Aniplex happy? Aniplex needs Toonami, not the other way around. Toonami has more than enough content providers who are more than happy to provide them with enough material to fill their block. Aniplex, on the other hand, couldn't wish for a better advertising platform than Toonami. It seems if Toonami really didn't like SAO, Aniplex would scramble to find a show that they did like to get it on there. Not to mention as others have said, DRRR already aired on ASA, so why would they have a bad relationship to begin with?

Also, if what you're saying is true, then Toonami must really hate Soul Eater, as it didn't even make the list.

Considering that SAO has underage fanservice, molestation, and incest, I can see why people would be annoyed that it's drawing in viewers.

90% of anime has "underage" fanservice. Heck, POKEMON has underage fanservice. As for the other 2 things, I haven't seen them yet so I'll reserve judgement. If they're anything like the other things people have referenced as making SAO so blasphemous, they've been blown way out of proportion.

The majority of their shows come from Funimation and Viz Media, so having a good relationship with Aniplex would guarantee them more shows from that provider in the future. Besides that, Aniplex were the ones who wanted them to air Sword Art Online, despite how I believe it was in third place in the Facebook poll behind Madoka and Fate/Zero. That was mentioned in one of their Q&A panels shortly after they announced that they would air the show. DRRR already aired before the Toonami revival, so I don't know if that would mean that they had a good relationship beforehand. Even if they did, refusing to air a show that a provider wanted them to air wouldn't be a good way to handle their business relationship.

As for Soul Eater, I couldn't really blame them if they did hate it. It isn't really that good and they probably wanted to focus on the bigger events from this year.

I'm aware of how old the characters in Pokemon are, as well as the shots of Dawn's skirt. Again, I think that's much more tame and much less blatant than what they do with the female characters in Sword Art Online, especially when I didn't really notice any shots of Dawn's skirt until other people pointed them out in some of the other forums I go to. There was an interview from a few years ago that said how they like to replace the female characters partly due to giving the audience new eye candy. That is kind of weird and has creepy undertones to say the least given how young the female characters are, but it isn't really at the same level of what Sword Art Online does, which is what I was initially trying to get across here. Just because Pokemon has underage fanservice doesn't mean that another show having more blatant amounts of underage fanservice is okay. The comparison doesn't make sense because of how significantly different they handle fanservice. Not to mention they're aimed at completely different demographics. Personally, I'd have problems with the fanservice in Sword Art Online even if the characters were adults. Making them pre-teen and teenage girls just makes it more creepy and disturbing than it would be with adult female characters.

I had a feeling that you'd bring up that moment and yes I am aware that it happened. I've watched Pokemon since I was ten for goodness shake, so the chances are excellent that I'm aware of what happened in any of the series that have aired in the U.S. and at least vaguely aware of what's going on in the Japanese version. There's a pretty significant difference in my opinion. While I'll agree that it's awkward and unnecessary, I don't think that May undressing to her bathing suit is quite on the same level of showing girls in their underwear for no good reason or focus on their moving breasts whenever they get a chance. Her bathing suit is still pretty modest all things considered. They aren't focusing on her body, but rather just removing her clothes for a comedic moment. Don't get me wrong. It is still fanservice and like I said before, it's unnecessary and a bit awkward to say the least, but it's nowhere near the levels of what Sword Art Online does. The fanservice in Sword Art Online is much more blatant, jarring and distracting than that moment from Pokemon is. This moment is tame by comparison and if you can't see a difference between this and Suguha dressing to her underwear to play a virtual MMO or the focus on her breasts while taking a bath, then I don't know what else to say.

Honestly, not if you keep in mind the context of that scene in that episode and not just find a random gif/pic after google searching for "Pokemon & fanservice" (though I doubt preteen boys complained). That said, if you want to talk about unnecessary and awkward....

Yes, I'm fully aware this is a deleted scene from a once banned (maybe still banned depending on the country I guess) and mostly pointless episode. No this doesn't compare to.... ya know what? Instead of fanservice, I'm calling it sexual objectification. Because that's basically what anime fans refer to when they say fanservice 80 percent of the time. Anyway, no it doesn't compare to the sexual objectification in Sword Art Online or most other contemporary otaku shows. ........But still....! LOL I HAD to chime in and point this example out because once you see this, I want to know how exactly you can manage to UN-see it?!

That's different. The complaint about SAO is its apparent sexual objectification of underage girls for the sake of titillation, in comparison to the more innocent (and in the case of the May thing, more comedic) skin showings of Pokemon. That's an adult male with a fake rack. Not to mention said adult male does flamboyant crap all the time.

Speaking of adults, I should probably mention that from what I know, the most blatant fanservice in Pokemon is actually reserved for adult women. Aside from Jessie, there's also the whole Prima thing. And that's all I'm gonna say on that subject because any further talk would veer into NSFW, and honestly, I'm getting sick of this whole fanservice discussion, and I only chimed in to give my two cents.

Guys, I was using the subject of, "awkward and unnecessary fanservice" as a setup for a joke regarding that scene I presented. All I asked for in return is to play along with the joke, that's all.
