What is the point of rerunning King of the Hill during the 5 am hour. It doesn't make any sense. Is this a ratings thing or a transition from Adult Swim to Cartoon Network kind of thing?

Samurai Jack was one of the best lead-out [as] to lead-in CN shows since it was on CN itself and nothing uncut about it with just the action being the only concern, and a minority at that - but then again, finishing its run anyway ~ still though.

We know Kill la Kill is coming, but still at 11:30 I wonder? The scheduling shift for that should be fun ~~

Could be due to not having enough programming too, cause when Jack leaves, you either just repeat the free show or play the only other card you have left, FLCL - but then no need for that, cause if you keep Bleach repeats for when KlK arrives, still have plenty. - depending on how long they have Bleach

This makes no sense in my opinion. Why get rid of an hour of Toonami for pointless reruns of King of the Stupid Hill? That is just stupid.

King of the Hill is a ratings draw, this is not crazy at all. It's a shame to see Jack go (IPGX less so, as it's been run multiple times), but when all is said and done nostalgic reruns are the most expendable thing on the lineup. The core lineup is still there and the start of the block is staying put at 11:30, so the fundamentals remain for Toonami at the moment.

Well that bites. I wouldn't mind losing that time if Adult Swim was going to do anything useful with it, but they do not need more King of the Hill reruns. I'm surprised that they had such a big last minute change to their schedule where they basically lose an hour. I know that the ratings haven't been that good for the past couple of weeks, but they haven't been that bad to where they need to lose an hour. Maybe it has something to do with their budget or Adult Swim wanting more time back since clearly, they can't play enough reruns of shows like King of the Hill or Family Guy.

I'm especially disappointed that IGPX is off the lineup since I was having fun watching it through their On Demand section. Maybe I will buy its DVD re-release whenever it comes out. On the bright side, at least starting off the block with DBZ Kai instead of Attack on Titan reruns should help boost the block's ratings. Kill La Kill should also help with that when it premieres next month. I am surprised that they didn't opt to put Attack on Titan at 2AM to move Deadman Wonderland a slot down, but that could help boost the later hours of the block. I do hope that they'll able to get that hour back at some point. While they have lost some of their rerun material, I think reruns from Toonami would be better than reruns of shows that air every single day on Adult Swim proper.

Spotted this commentary a few minutes ago. This change must have been rather sudden, as Kill la Kill's airing time is apparently not settled at this time now. And yeah, now it is time to have some worries on ratings. Hopefully things can be sustained or improved a little bit and things can coast along as they are for a good long while.

Yeah, I could tell that the ratings had something to do with Toonami losing an hour. Still, it feels annoying that the block is losing an hour for a show that has reruns everyday.

Yeah, this is more of a time to worry about ratings. I know it hasn't been that great and I think most of the ratings during movie month was pretty lackluster too, but I didn't think that they were doing that badly to the point where they'd lose time for it. Hopefully, things pick up soon for the block. I'm surprised that a timeslot for Kill La Kill hasn't been decided since they said in their announcement that it would be airing at 11:30PM, but maybe that's another last minute schedule change. That and they might want to have DBZ Kai starting off the lineup, which I wouldn't be too surprised if that does turn out to be the case when Kill La Kill premieres.

The good thing about the shrinking, such as it is, is that it comes in the late hour. If the early part of the block were deemed a bit soft, it stands to reason Toonami would have gone back to starting at midnight or, lord forbid, even later.

Still, let's hope this is as far as it goes. Super late hour or not, I'd hate to see a headline where Ghost in the Shell SAC and some other longtime fixture is getting the ax next.

IIRC that was because Dish had dropped all the Turner Network stations temporarily. Taking it out on Toonami means they can't read data correctly.

The Turner networks returned to Dish Network at the end of November, so that excuse doesn't hold water for movie month's ratings.

I'm pretty sure that the Dish situation has been resolved for the time being, so that didn't impact their month of movies or these last few weeks ratings wise.

I still haven't heard of Turner and DISH renewing their contract beyond March when it's supposed to end again since it was all temporary. So unless that happens there's danger again in lower numbers as of March,

Going to look at this in the positive since it's basically forced. Yes, we're losing an hour, but 11:30-5, that's still 5.5 hours which to me is still really good considering we get one Toonami a week. Could have been a lot worse, but an hour's not terrible, and as pointed out, could have been at the start of the block.

Losing more in the future. Giving up 5AM is hardly enough to really improve those ratings if they're that tremendously concerned with them. The 4AM hour's clock might be ticking.

I've often been under the impression that Adult Swim's comedies would do a bit better than Toonami's last 2 hours due to the difficulty of staying up to watch a show like Ghost in the Shell or IGPX at that hour and that it would serve Adult Swim better to run Toonami 11pm-4am and let comedy have 4-6AM but because the last hour was usually free shows or shows they got a really good deal on the ratings didn't seem to matter all that much. Now it seems they're not content with the ratings Toonami has managed lately and have decided to improve the Saturday average by banking on adults who wake up early and will watch King of the Hill.

It's not a tremendous loss right now and allows Toonami to run violent programming in every late slot they have thanks to the PG KOTH buffer but it could just be the beginning. Going by the ratings lately the second half of Toonami does not seem like the place where ratings expectations are not being met though the last hour has been a bit soft for a while baring the occasional fluke week.

It also feels like Toonami's being punished for doing what they were told in the case of keeping Attack on Titan first on the line-up rather than starting Final Act or DBZ Kai there. Though it remains to be seen just how much better DBZ Kai can do in that slot, here's hoping it makes a big difference though.

The only good news is that Toonami is not losing it's earliest slots and it would probably be a bad move on Adult Swim's part to take 11:30 away from Toonami right now because 8pm-11:30pm already stretches their strongest comedies on Saturday too thin. Toonami's first hour has regularly beat the shows in the 10pm hour last year. It would make no sense to push Toonami later when the shows airing before it are not doing better. If not for American Dad and Family Guy propping the other comedies up, Toonami's first hour would likely be the highest rated part of Saturday night. It seems they cannot add more American Dad and Family Guy or perhaps simply prefer not to and that's to Toonami's benefit in a sense but also hurting Toonami's potential to hold onto a bigger audience that an extra helping of either of those MacFarlane shows could bring in on Saturday. In 2013 Toonami was lead by Family Guy, Cleveland Show and The Boondocks. That combined strength from 10:30-12AM made for a great lead-in that Toonami milked for all it's worth. The current 10pm hour is much weaker than that and Family Guy brings things up but not to the level it did in 2013.

Honestly, I thought keeping Attack on Titan to start off the block wasn't a good idea. I could understand that Attack on Titan is popular, but giving reruns to start off the block is not really good in my opinion. It would have been better if Titan reruns aired later. I would've preferred that DBZ Kai should had started off than Titan reruns. Hopefully, DBZ Kai might help the ratings since it will start the block.

It looks like they're still deciding what show will be leaving in order to make room for Kill La Kill.
