Toonami Ratings

Maybe they should try Cat Planet Cuties or as I like to call it "the anime Michael Bay would make".
I hope that they realize that the Christmas Holiday season that really starts the night of Thanksgiving now (sad but true) doesn't work well with the rancid edgy humor they are accustomed with. [as] isn't the only male targeting network to blame. Spike, G4, & CC also don't have much to offer this time of year but they still offer a lot more than [as]. As good as AD did after Roger Rabbit, I feel Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights would've done better. That fills only 90 min, so there's still time for FG*2+Cleve. It would've been a great time to test Cleve as a lead for TOONAMI. Assuming they survive FOX AD HD, the originals should be given a holiday break & edgy but heart felt films like this should lead [as] from Thanskgiving weekend thru Christmas.

No. That movie must crash and burn. To death.

Three shows hit a million?!
Not bad.

(also, this is my first time posting the ratings, so I really hope I did 'em right. If not, mods please edit)

Thundercats continues to rock it with the million! Looks like this new schedule format is working wonders for the Toonami crew :).

Double check and it seem good El-Hazard.

Interesting that Thundercats barely pulled in 1 mil. I would probably put that on the trending challenge more than anything. Though it may be able to pull it again this Saturday if the stars are right.

More interesting is the sudden 150k drop from SymBionic Titan to Eureka 7. You'd figure if we had all those trends they would have gotten higher, similar to last weeks ratings. I may give this one more week before it falls to the averages with Thundercats getting maybe 950k on average and that's being generous for the 1am slot.

I'll just sigh for Senia anymore, Tenchi GXP was probably the victim of the worse possible treatment/circumstances ever for Toonami. Barely 3 weeks in one slot before being moved due to a new show and then booted for the same time slot over a bad holiday weekend. Highly unlikely we'll get much more of the same since it'll just end up being assumed to be like Tenchi and "Won't get the rating we need." This week really won't help it much and it'll probably maintain this for it's remaining days. Sad really.

Overall rather impressive for anything pre-2:30am. Everything else? Average for that time.

Those ratings are awesome! And if everything did indeed trend on twitter we can call this a quite successful night!!

Three shows that hit above a million? Now this is excellent! Naruto's first time! My idea that I'd do so with with this episode, as it's when the story picks up was true, and it actually managed to do better than Bleach. Can't wait to see how things look once Bleach gets back to premieres. ThunderCats at 1 was a great choice. If Samurai 7 can remain in those numbers then it's all good. Titan is good too, though I can do better. A bit of a big drop to Eureka, but it's fine at this point. Moving Tenchi was definitely a solid choice, though it's probably hurting Brotherhood a little bit. Bebop and InuYasha doing fine.

Naruto's the star this week imo! Overall, things are looking really great. Bringing Toonami back really has been a succes, things are looking much better than they did when we started.

uhh that 2-6 am block had the fewest viewers for adult swim's entire weekly lineup (out of 152 "airings" last week)

145 SYM-BIONIC TITAN Sat 2:00AM- 2:30AM 30 0.6 828
146 EUREKA 7 Sat 2:30AM- 3:00AM 30 0.5 682

148 INUYASHA Sat 5:00AM- 5:30AM 30 0.4 548
149 INUYASHA Sat 5:30AM- 6:00AM 30 0.4 527
150 COWBOY BEBOP Sat 4:30AM- 5:00AM 30 0.4 524

Ya, it is a massive red flag. Especially for shows like Tenchi GXP (or other Non-action anime) since they "won't get ratings" for Toonami. I'm more surprised that that even happened with the trending challenge for the Supernova megamix. You'd figure it'd be like last week with everyone getting at least 600k min.

Those are some seriously awesome ratings. I knew that Naruto would get over the million mark at some point, but I didn't think it would be before the first arc. It did even better than Bleach, although Bleach was in reruns. I wonder how the ratings will look once Bleach comes back with new episodes. Thundercats getting to the million mark again is a nice surprise and Samurai 7 got some great ratings too. There was a bigger drop between Samurai 7 and Sym-Bionic Titan than I thought, but Sym-Bionic Titan still did pretty well. Eureka Seven did okay for its timelsot. Considering the ratings for the last couple of weeks, I think it was a terrific decision to move GXP to 3AM and to pick up Naruto. They've gotten some really solid ratings as a result of the move and while DeMarco said that ratings aren't the whole story, seeing how well the block does in its first couple of hours is a good thing and does provide some reassurance for Toonami's future.

Not necessarily. Saturdays consistently have the worst ratings of the week when compared to the rest of Adult Swim. Better ratings for Saturday still mean more ad revenue though. So, comparatively, it doesn't look good, compared to everything else on TV airing on Saturday, it looks pretty damn good if I do say so myself.

It'd be interesting if they flip-flopped Tenchi and Brotherhood. Might maximize the ratings for that hour.

Holy crap those ratings. 3 shows breaking a million? Samurai 7 is almost there. I think it may be due to the much needed commercial time Toonami has been getting on AS recently. I really wonder what show they'll be getting after Samurai 7 finishes up. Hopefully it'll be more akin to a more action oriented show rather than.... whatever the hell Tenchi is, never really been a fan of the series in general.

3 shows in the millions, practically 4. What a great turn-out.

Naruto beat Black Dynamite and came close to The Boondocks. If it can beat both then Toonami might get that 11PM hour early in 2013.

More importantly Naruto is proving that a big show can pull in bigger numbers than the cheaper shows they got on their regular budget. That's good news for anyone hoping for Toonami to get more big shows in 2013.

The drop-off later in the night is a bit disappointing but those hours tend to flux from week to week so it's not a red flag unless the drop offs remain consistant. They seem more than willing to bite the bullet on those low numbers that late so I wouldn't worry about it.

It should also be noted that ratings list does not include Sunday from 3AM-6AM and it's actually possible some of those shows do worse than the 3AM-6AM shows on Toonami.

Not really, the only reason why it's been in so much flux is from the holiday weekend starting back in November with Thanksgiving. The usually drop off for the time slots has usually been like this since the start of the midnight run.

12-12:30 - 150-250k drop
12:30-1:00 - 100-150k drop
1-1:30 - 75-100k drop
1:30-2:00 - 50-75k drop
2-2:30 - 25-75k drop
2:30-3:00 - 25-50k drop
3:00-3:30 - 50-75k drop
3:30-4:00 - 50-75k drop
4:00-4:30 - 25-50k drop
4:30-5:00 - +25k gain - -10k drop

Since the start of Inyuasha the 4-5am slots have gotten a boost from that show and have been the odd man out for the drop in ratings with some increase from the previous half hour. Beyond that that's usually been the norm with some exception like Thanksgiving, the 8th (boxing fight), and the 22nd holiday weekend.

It's a broad guess given my averages from my drive sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0As2n841m5KUUdGVVYS15dHlkai1Md3JGeDFaY1o3Qnc#gid=6
but the overall trends has usually shown that much. Tenchi moving just gave a massive boost for a couple of weeks to the 1am and 1:30 am slots. TC barely pulled over 1 mil this week and I don't think it'll make it next week but stranger things have happened.

TCats should've been included in that. Naruto 1144 vs FmB 991, TCats 1005 vs Durarara! 796, S7 913 vs Kekkaishi 685. Those lower #'s were reported for Jan 21, 2012 so they give some indication on what these shows did a month earlier. They must have purposefully overlooked TCats for some reason. Bleach also did 1288 that night back in Jan so that's a benchmark as well for next yr.

I found some time to look at the FOX AD HD video's & YouTube & it looks promising. Both the gardner & pokemon videos are hilarious. This block seems to be aiming at both RC viewers & SNL animation viewers. I'm sure it's going to produce a following & I'd like to see TOONAMI use comical animated action to feed off that next year. One Piece definitely comes to mind then though it can get heavy in drama as well.

To be fair, you can't be sure that it was the same a month earlier. Also, they might've simply chosen to focus on premieres.

After more consideration I think ThunderCats was not mentioned because it did not represent those kind of gains in [as] prime demographic of 18+ males. This makes sense to me because Durarara's Jan #'s were probably heavily concentrated in the 18+ demog. Much more so than TCats. The ommision of ThunderCats from the Turner report then is evidence that TCat's #"s are centered on younger viewers.
