The much-anticipated sequel to the 2010 anime series based on the Ryohgo Narita book series finally premiered over the weekend and I didn't see a discussion thread for it here, so I figured I'd start it.

Directed by Takahiro Omori, director of season one as well as Princess Jellyfish and Baccano!, Durarara!!x2 can be seen on Crunchyroll, Hulu and the Aniplex Channel.

Caught episode one last night. An eclectic mix of old and new characters. It's nice to see the old gang back, and I'm looking forward to what these new faces will do here.

Episode 1

Nice to have Durarara!! back after so long. Looks like nothing has changed, as expected, which is certainly good. Looks like there are loads of new characters to explore, and with three new cours, it should get pretty exciting. Already enjoying just being with these characters again.

DRRR!! x2 Shou - Episode 1

The episode felt like a follow-up to the stand-alone Episode 25 of the first series, and re-introduced us to all of the players in the game (plus some new ones), while also starting a new storyline involving a murderer wearing animal masks. Good to see Mikado and Anri's relationship starting to develop in spite of all the madness, though I was kind of shocked to see Celty's motorcycle take the form of a Headless Horse at one point.

Also, the episode was chock full of shameless promotion of other anime and manga series throughout (i.e., ALDNOAH.ZERO, The Irregular at Magic High School, etc), most of which shown during the Otaku Club's segment.

I think I'll stick around and see what happens next.

Wonder who those two girls are supposed to be....

Assuming you're referring to who I think you're referring to...
Those are Izaya's sisters. They first appeared in episode 25 (the last episode) of the first season.

Oh, btw, when the part about grizzly murders by someone wearing different masks did anyone else think "Durarara!! vs. Hotline Miami"?
O.K. one is monster mask and the other is animal masks but still the thought occurred.

So what do you think are the chances of this airing on Toonami in another year or so? Granted they'd probably have to show original Durarara again first.

I could see x2 on Toonami. If memory serves, the first season did pretty well on the pre-Toonami action block.

Anyway, episode two is up now, but I still owe episode one some of my "world-famous" coomentary.

Celty rides again.

And what’s a Ryohgo Narita/Takahiro Omori coproduction without a roll-call title sequence? Though I can’t read the new characters’ names, unfortunately.

It’s getting so it’s no longer sage to ride in the streets at night.

I wish my car could turn into a horse.

Izaya’s sisters are weird.

And Blonde Nabeshin’s back as well.

Nice to see Japanese Marcie and Japanese Charlie Brown again.

Are Namie and Izaya dating now?

“News 666”? So Japan has their own Fox News Channel?

Please don’t reference SAO on this series. That last thing I need to be reminded of the worst anime ever made while watching one of the best.

Yuhei can sure act, even though his expression is essentially the same.

Even Dullahans need checkups.

Even this show is not above marshmallow hell.

A horse is a horse, of course of course.

Are we going to see more of Kinnosuke this season?

And a hang glider too.

Celty is (not) the terror that flaps in the night.

I get the feeling they’re setting up several plot points here, like last time.

Sadly I can’t think of a single Peanuts character who matches Masaomi’s personality.

So when I heard this series was having it's sequel and Crunchyroll had both the dub and sub up for streaming I binge re-watched the first season since it's been a few years since the Adult Swim airing. I'm glad I did as the first episode of this series takes right off from where the last series left off.

-Really wish the stream had translated the names in the opening since there are a boatload of new characters in this series. That may change down the line as it is a simulcast stream and they tend to be a work n progress when it comes to translation.

-I revisited some of the Adult Swim talkbacks while watching the first season and I recall how a few posters were disappointed that more of the novels weren't being adapted. I even responded that usually most light novel adaptations can be stretched out over a period of time. Looks like this theory is being proven right.

-Speaking of a Adult Swim since we got a recent confirmation that SAO 2 is going to be on Toonami I think it increases the likelihood that DurararaX2 may be the series to follow after that. After all it is an Aniplex show, it's current, an excuse to reunite the dub cast, and it's original run was already on the network.

Overall I'm glad to get re-acquainted with this show after all these years. It will interesting how these three cours will play out now that most of the mysteries from the first series have been revealed.

Episode 6

Another very unique pair in Varona and Sloan. It might be getting a little convoluted at this point, but that is what Narita does best, so I'm sure it will all work out.

Episode 9

Some great Shizuo material here. Should be interesting to see how everyone slides back into their roles in English. These characters sure feel as natural as ever in Japanese, although on the English side they've also got a new director.

Aoba is actually coming across as a little less interesting than I was hoping. He seems to be something of a poor man's Izaya, which we certainly don't need in a show that already has the real Izaya. He still deserves a good Shizuo clobbering, though.

Why was Shizuo wearing glassses and not sunglasses

Episode 10

Yeah, it really must suck for an innocent little kid to realize that her whole family is a bunch of violent criminals. And Izaya knows how to make it even worse by manipulating even those innocent little kids for his twisted ends. Sending a small child to take out Shizuo is an amusing concept, anyway. Poor Shooter-kun. At least he finds a good compromise.

Dub has been announced. And it's the returning cast.

Aniplex of America announced on Wednesday that it will continue its Durarara!!×2 English dub with the second arc, Durarara!!×2 Ten. The first dubbed episode will premiere on September 8 at 3:00 p.m. EDT, and new episodes will debut on Tuesdays.

The cast, under ADR director Alex Von David, includes:
