  • They've been showing Cybersix on RetroCrush and it's insane they put this on Fox Kids. I'd like to think it'd do better now but nowadays it might end up being a tax writeoff, which means someone two decades from now couldn't watch it on RetroCrush.
I'm starting to feel like classic Simpsons enthusiasts about SpongeBob. Compare a 1999 and 2023 episode and you've almost got completely different shows.

I always stick to seasons 1-5, there's too many wackyness and nostalgia in newest seasons.

There's episodes that are definite misses in 4-6 (and it starts to get grosser in 6 with "The Splinter" and "Chum Caverns") but there are a lot of great moments in there.

With seasons 7-9, there are episodes I thought were pretty okay as a kid, but considering what else is in them, I'd be fine if those seasons never happened.

Honestly, Season 1-3 of Spongebob will always be iconic. Season 4 was okay, Season 5 is where the show started to dip in quality and Season 6-9 was complete ass garbage.

Never seen Season 10 to current (except for the 20th anniversary special, that was really good), besides the weird facial expressions I've seen online, so I have no opinion on them.
Ruby Gillman was pretty decent! Didn't deserve to be a box office bomb. Parts of it are kinda formulaic but it's certainly watchable with a good soundtrack as well.

but I also have the impression that generic CG animation isn't as attractive as it used to be. You can find decent quality CG even on YouTube. Our computers can produce pretty good CGI graphics these days. Pushing the boundaries for an experience worth seeing in theatres is pretty difficult.

Never watch Ruby Gilman, but it did sucks it has to flop thanks to Dreamworks and Comcast's piss poor marketing. Hell, they were hyping up Trolls 3 to the moon way more than this. And that's kinda sad.

@Golden Geek Also yes, that mermaid was the highlight of the trailer for me. She's attractive.
I'm not sure what drove me to watch all of Lucky Star today but that truly is the gold standard for slice-of-life anime. Very low stakes, just naturally flowing characters and dialogue.
Joining the Panderverse is pretty funny, and if you think about it relatively balanced about the issue it's addressing. Not so sure about the subplot. Anything Cartman-Kathleen Kennedy does is hilarious.

Solid review. Heh think of posting this on the actual talkback thread so it can be more then just me and [classic swim] posting on it there?
Viz really screwed the Bleach dub situation. Recasting Yoruichi was obviously going to be controversial, but to let the new VA formally announce it, let her deal with a ton of racist trolls, do literally three lines in one episode, and then tell her "actually we're going with someone else AND redubbing your lines" is...questionable behavior!
God, I love Discotek. These guys are so passionate about everything they put out, from Extreme Dinosaurs to harem anime. I just wish I could get their discs from somewhere that wasn't CR or Amazon.
I completely forgot we had an About section on our user pages...mine still said I was sixteen.

22 now so I hadn't updated it in quite a bit.
Finally saw Encanto since it was on The Wonderful World of Disney tonight...not bad, a lot to unpack about generational trauma, Bruno can get it any day of the week.
Finally figured out which Funimation account was still charging me monthly...picking up RetroCrush for a few months instead.
Crunchyroll will never get another cent out of me. To HFIL with monopolies.

yeah, if Crunchyroll thought the right Stuf buyout is a bad idea, why can't they sell it instead?

Yeah.....Screw Sony. It's time for a new anime distributor to rise up and take the plate.
Just found my old April Fools post from 2016 about AS starting at 5PM...and I oop-

Heh, in away, Adult Swim Jr. is kind of real now.
It is unusually smart for Nick to be airing classic SpongeBob during usual Nick@Nite time against Futurama on AS.

Made sense since SpongeBob and Futurama are done by the same studio and released around the same year

While Rough Draft Animation Studios did work for both shows, so did a lot of cartoons from different clients who had their own animation departments so I'm not sure I would say they were done by the same studio in that sense.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
