If anyone was wondering, this is the current rumor mill in terms of projects
-Donkey Kong: Already deep in development and slated for a 2028 release.
-Super Mario 3: Work on it started on Mario 3, targeting a 2029 release.
-Star Fox: In development, eyeing a 2030 release.
-Kirby: In early development.
-Luigi’s Mansion: In the pitching stage as they search for writers.
-Yoshi’s Island: In the pitching stage as they search for writers.
-Super Smash Bros.: Being planned, but won’t release until after Star Fox.
-Ideas being explored "Bowsers", and "Princess Peach & Rosalina" movies.
-Metroid: "In a bit of a push between studios" for last few months.

Didn't Nintendo officially confirm that would NOT be a cinematic universe, though? I'm pretty sure of it.

Yes, and that's why I specifically called it the 'current rumor mill' - so we'll see.

"Nintendo’s Next Animated Movie Slated For April 2028"

"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is collecting so many coins for Universal and Illumination, why wouldn’t they make more? We just didn’t expect the response so soon. Universal updated its long-term movie schedule today and marked April 12, 2028 with “Untitled Illumination/Nintendo Event Film.”

For now, no one can be 100% certain what this really is. All we do know is that it can’t possibly be a third Mario-centered movie, as the date is too soon. It’s more likely to be a spinoff about a different Mario-adjacent character. And who’s the most likely candidate? DK…Donkey Kong is here.

There’s evidence pointing to it. A copyright notice was filed in June of last year for an “Untitled Donkey Kong Project; Motion Picture” with Universal Pictures and Nintendo Studios LLC listed as the copyright holders. Then you’ve also got the fact that Donkey Kong and his family were largely absent from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, even though Illumination’s goal was apparently to cram in as many characters as they possibly could."

In short, nobody really knows what's going on, the whole thing is ultimately speculation that doesn't tell anyone anything, and social media is still swearing up, down, and sideways that there is going to be a Donkey Kong movie.

Look, everyone. I've said this before (more or less), and I'll say it again: until there is a full, formal announcement from Nintendo, nobody can assume anything is confirmed, despite any "filings" or "listings" or anything like that. Once Nintendo has something to talk about, they'll be sure to talk about it as soon as possible. Until, or unless that happens, nothing should be taken as set in stone or otherwise confirmed.

And I'll leave it at that.

Bananza brought King K. Rool back, and even if it hadn't, Illumination loves its deep cut enemies. If the next movie is Donkey Kong, I fully expect K. Rool to be the villain.

Voice wise, the Nelvana cartoon makes it hard for me to imagine anything but a posh British accent.

I recently rented the Super Mario Movie from 1993. I played it, and after a few minutes, I decided I didn't want to watch anymore. I'll just stick to the animated movie, and hopefully I'll enjoy SMGM whenever I see it.

My recommendation would be to buy the RiffTrax version. The jokes on top of it really help.

"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Lands On Blu-Ray June 16"

"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie appeared in theaters April 1 and did pretty well for itself, earning $1 billion in theatrical box office sales. It pretty much guaranteed that the Mario Cinematic Universe will continue in some form, even if the sequel’s plot was, in the words of Homer Simpson, “a bunch of stuff that happened.”

But you’ll be able to take that noisy mash-up of ideas home on physical format sooner than you think when the Blu-Ray is released less than a month from now. It will include a pretty decent amount of bonus features, though once again we lament the absence of a commentary track."

Cool! Except they didn't mention Fox. It's cool he got to lend the Mario gang a hand in this one.

For which one?

I already have The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but I think I'll get the Super Mario 2-movie collection and replace my individual copy of the SMB movie with it. I'll save a little bit of shelf space that way, although I know I won't get much for the SMB movie if I try to sell it.

Since I had been seeing a lot of spoilers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I considered renting it digitally. It costs as much to do that as it will to get my own physical copy. So I guess I'll try to hold out and resist the temptation since the physical copy comes out in three weeks.

For which one?
He's talking about the RiffTrax version of 1993 SMB movie.

I will say that the workprint/rough cut version of the 1993 SMB is worth checking out IMHO.

BTW, have you seen the 1986 SMB anime film "The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach"?

No I haven't.

I forgot about that Star children legend from Yoshi's Island DS, seven babies born with extraordinary power. In the game it was Mario, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Wario, Bowser, and Yoshi. But got me thinking they could rework it in this movie canon as some greater legend. We saw Rosalina and Peach were said to be made of the cosmos and Daisy appeared in the end tag. Perhaps, they'll reveal 4 other characters to be the rest like Maple, Azalea, and Plum from the golf game who were planned to be relatives of Daisy's and in turn in one bit of trivia Daisy was at some point a cousin of Peach.

Interesting. But I think Camelot (who helped make the Mario Golf games and some other Mario spin-off titles) might own part of the rights to the characters originating from Mario Golf.

Dah, oh well. But still, Rosalina's story feels... incomplete. She and Peach just existing and they lived on a random planet by themselves in a universe/multiverse full of non-human beings that also connects to the 'real world' where humans are can't be the whole story. Then Daisy shows up in the end tag. I'm just not that up on my Mario lore if there's any other human princesses so I thought what if they sub those Mario Golf ones. I have no doubt the next movie will have even more lore.

It's so weird watching the behind the scenes features on the Blu-Ray I preordered from Amazon. Why is it that the Japanese interviewees have an English voiceover obscuring the Japanese dialogue, while the French interviewees have English subtitles?

Glad I got you to watch Stranger Things.

If I may recommend more media for you to check out, here's a starter:

You've mentioned that haven't read the original TMNT comics from Mirage Studios. Well, this video by YouTuber "Soundout12" gives a decent roadmap for where to start:

dmxx116 really likes to wish for people not to return back to so and so because their films didn't do so well. I don't agree with everything he says, though I agree on that Jared Leto shouldn't play Skeletor.
I'm sorry but I disagree with what GRPHX said about the past five films with Daniel Craig as James Bond as well as the choice of Denis Villeneuve as director and Steven Knight as writer in the next film because I really doubt Villeneuve's take will be like the Craig films at all and besides, all of the stuff he mentioned happened before the Craig films such as Licence to Kill.

Hi, welcome to Toonzone

There's something about seeing kids cry after they mess up big time that really gets to me. One can definitely feel bad for Layla.
