The "Nintendo Switch 2" News and Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Well, it happened, and obviously none of the stuff I mentioned got announced, but I'm not complaining. Anyhow, besides three previously announced things, and a few other standouts (Ninjala 2, New Hello Kitty game, Ocarina of Time remake, Kingdom Hearts franchise on Nintendo Switch 2 including Kingdom Hearts 4*, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort), there really wasn't much to see other than various "T" and "M" rated games. Sure I was disappointed personally (a little), but that doesn't mean I'm going to whine, moan, and complain about Nintendo suddenly not giving people what they want just they didn't announce something I would have liked to have seen.

I will say this much: I personally think Nintendo may have more to announce later on, but I reiterate, that's just me.

"Nintendo Announces New Xenoblade, Surprise-Bombs Kingdom Hearts 4, And Sort-Of Reveals Zelda In Today’s Direct"

"There are a lot of things only Nintendo would do. Only Nintendo would give you a cool retro challenge package but put a time limit on its existence. Only Nintendo would drop our first real look at Kingdom Hearts 4 into the middle of the presentation and act like it was no more important than Hello Kitty. Only Nintendo would spend five minutes on a thumb-wrestling competition."

The Direct was a bit lackluster for me personally. There were some cool games and reveals, but I was hoping for something a bit more exciting or more up my alley. There were a lot of JRPGs and I've heard good things about Xenoblade, but I don't know if I'd want to go down that rabbit hole. Devoting time to thumb wrestling when everyone would have preferred that time to showcase other games or more footage from the Zelda remake was a baffling choice.

The Kingdom Heart IV sudden announcement was pretty cool, especially when it's been years without any news on it and it being available on the Switch 2 on launch is pretty cool. I don't know if I'd get the Kingdom Hearts collections, but at least they aren't the cloud versions. I wouldn't be surprised if they're on key cards though.

Pokopia DLC was pretty neat. One of these days, I'll finally get a digital copy and try out the game. The price for the DLC isn't too bad, although I'm hoping that the digital version is cheaper now. The fact that they have the DLC planned to come in waves through 2027 might be one reason why they rushed out the DLC for Legends Z-A last year. I still think it would have been better to have it come out this year instead, but maybe they didn't want two Pokemon games with DLC expansions releasing at the same time.

I'm surprised that they didn't announce any new Mario games. I was expecting a 3D Mario game for their holiday title. They could still potentially announce it in the fall, but I suspect that the Zelda remake will be the big holiday title despite not having a specific date yet. Maybe they didn't think it was necessary to have another 3D Mario game on the Switch 2 when DK Banzana seems to be doing well and Wonder has a Switch 2 edition as well. I guess I was just hoping for more games to add on my wish list, even though there's still a few Switch 1 and Switch 2 games on there.

Miyamoto stated that two weeks ago he was looking forward to the next 3D Mario project

So it could probably mean it could be announced either in a new Direct come September (Mario Odyssey was revealed back in October 2016 during the first reveal of the Switch and wouldn’t release until a year later in October 2017) or next year. They are rumors that the Switch 2 3D Mario could come out by 2027.

I think next year is more likely. While it wouldn't be impossible to announce it in the next Direct, I think that if a new 3D Mario game was in the works for this year, they would have announced it yesterday. Plus, the OOT remake seems like it would be their big holiday title for the year.

I'm really excited that Kingdom Hearts IV is confirmed for Switch 2 day one. Between this and FFVII Revelation ditching the Sony year-one exclusivity they previously had with these titles' precursors I no longer have any want to buy a PS5.

I want to be excited for Ocarina of Time, but they showed so little of it. I don't understand why they'd merely tease a game in a June Direct when it's supposed to come out this year. This isn't the beginning of the year, we're halfway through!

My hesitation for excitement comes from the fear that it will be a super conservative remake like OOT3D was. Now, no matter what it won't be as conservative as OOT3D was, they're not going to be able to get away with being as conservative as they did with that game, given the massive power gap. Releasing an OOT remake with the N64 OST and sound effects would be very strange on the Switch 2. I didn't like it that way on the 3DS either, but it is what it is.

I'm definitely not even remotely expecting something like FFVII Remake, but I do hope that it will still be a substantial remake in of itself to set itself apart from the original.

I watched the Nintendo Direct last week, guess I should share my thoughts (on my favorite announcements, or whatever else catches my eye):

Splatoon Raiders: Yep, that definitely looks like "single player mode" Splatoon! Not really for me, but my kids love the Splatoon games (and I'm more into single player games) so yeah...this one is a "must" at some point. Maybe for Christmas?

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort: This one caught my kid's eye, and I have fond memories of Wii Sports. Might get this one for Christmas.

Kingdom Hearts 4: Looks lovely, but I'd have to play the prior 3 games first. (I mean, I played a portion of the first Kingdom Hearts back in 2002 or whenever that was, but I recall I didn't finish it). Thankfully, they also advertised a Kingdom Hearts collection for the Switch 2....

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave: I want to at least play "Fire Emblem: Three Houses" first...

Xenoblade Genesis: Gotta play the prior Xenoblade games first. Are you seeing a pattern? I'm also debating if I should get into "Fire Emblem" or "Xenoblade" first?

Orbitals: I love the "80's animation" style, the kids love it, it looks like it has a good gameplay loop. This one might be a Christmas pick up.

Stellar Blade 2: Looks too different from the first Stellar Blade. I'm not convinced on this one.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake: Would've loved to have seen more in this teaser trailer, but yes, I really REALLY want this! Might've been my pick for "best of the Nintendo Direct" if they had just revealed a bit more of the gameplay (and also spelled out if they're going to heavily revamp the story or keep it 99% the same)

Winner of the Nintendo Direct:

Final Fantasy Resonance:
A new 2D Final Fantasy game, done in the style of Final Fantasy 1 through 6?!? I can't resist.

This Direct stood out as a Xenoblade Direct with the release of Switch 2 editions of the previously released games and the announcement of a new game for next year. Xenoblade Chronicles X getting a Switch 2 edition also helped in that regard. It's still annoying for Nintendo to sell these games (especially the ones that wasn't Xenoblade 3) at full price plus $10.

I also won't play Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave just yet because I want to play the older games on Switch at some point first. On that note...

I'm in a similar position too since I also want to check out other JRPGS like those 2 series. And Final Fantasy and Tales of (I only played Arise so far). And Granblue Fantasy: Relink. And I just started getting into the Atelier games. Speaking of which...

Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom and Guide of Memories had a few gameplay clips shown in a montage, but whether I'll actually be able to play that or Yumia is a different topic.

I did like the visuals of Final Fantasy Resonance, but I also feel like playing the earlier games first including the remake trilogy.

I suppose I should acknowledge the 2nd remake of Ocarina of Time. I did play the remake on the 3DS a few years ago, and it honestly felt awkward to play with Link moving like a penguin and the targeting for combat feeling more confusing than helpful at times. None of that was helped with the game being on a small screen. That's why I still would've liked to see how I would've felt about the game if I played it on a tv, and I don't want to pay for NSO to do that. Hearing the catchy tune "Saria's Song" again was pretty nice. Otherwise, there was nothing to say since the video was just a teaser of Link sleeping. I'm still hoping for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to get ported. We already got Skyward Sword on Switch, so what's holding up the other 2 games? I do also wonder if Majora's Mask will get ported and/or remade. And I still wouldn't be against porting the other games to the console and not restricting them to NSO.

Stellar Blade getting ported to the Switch 2 was quite a surprise. It may be from Shift Up which is not owned by Sony, but having "Sony Interactive Entertainment" as the publisher on the game's PS store listing implied that Sony wouldn't share the game on other platforms especially since Sony also recently decided to not port anymore of their single-player games to PC. Xbox players must be tired of getting the short end of the stick.

I was wondering when DLC for Dragon's Dogma 2 would get announced, and I'm surprised it was also being called "Dark Arisen" like in the previous game. However, the new area was called "Norgan" and full of ice and snow as opposed to the previous game's Bitterblack Isle being - well - dark. Now, I'll just wait for a complete edition.

I wanted to play the Kingdom Hearts at some point, but I completely forgot about the series until this direct reminded me of their existence. I never played the games, but they always stood out to me for featuring Disney characters. And looking at the titles of the games, I can see why I forgot about them as the numbering of the other games confused the hell out of me. There was the collection called "All In One" in the PS store, and the description mentioned 5 games, but the series has more than 5 games, so I didn't immediately know what it actually included. It seems that collection had almost everything, and the release of a new collection has that plus a little more, so I should try getting into these games at some point. And there was the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4. Add that to the pile.

Finally, there was Runescape: Dragonwilds which only stood out to me for being connected to the MMO all the way from the 2000s. It looks like this could be played solo or with other people. I never played the original game, but I had a friend who did. I don't know if I'll check this out.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
