  • I hate to say this but I'm going to part ways with this site. I have to be honest I'm very disappointed in the state of animation in the US for the last 5 years maybe longer and it's seems like it's getting worse. Plus I haven't been active between since 2023-2024, Not to mention my personal life is getting more unstable as I was recently discovered to have cyclothymia in other words "Bipolar 3"
So if some pieces of media hits the 20 year mark is it considered retro?

Apparently? I've read about as much for defining retro/vintage/antique (I know that's about items, but still).
It's weird to see a lot of European cartoons from 10-20 years ago that very few people outside of Europe has seen like "School for Vampires" or "Spirou & Fantasio"

Often, European cartoons are an acquired taste. I'm from within Europe yet I like Spaced Out.
If public domain cartoon dvds still existed. They would’ve obviously used AI art

I haven’t seen a public domain DVD in the wild since my local Kmart closed.

There are still boutique labels like Thunderbean and Cartoons on Film releasing Public Domain cartoons on Blu-ray.

I meant the extremely low budget and released by sketchy companies who are probably connected to shadier businesses like "Kid Pics"
I hate to say it but it's starting to become harder to watch any CN show without the realizing the cruel dismantling the brand and its history had. Even nostalgia can't break through it.

I wonder anyone here has seen Ryan Coogler’s Sinners . The fact that an R-rated original movie grossed more domestically than the 3 Marvel movies this year should be a huge wake up call.
I know this sounds very negative and pessimistic. But I do have a feeling that Skydance will gut anything Nickelodeon in-house live action and animation outside of SpongeBob, TMNT, and Paw Patrol

Like what happened to CNS and Cartoon Network in general

That really wasn’t a nice thing to say. I doubt they will do that, and after all the plans they announced they have for the Paramount Global assets.
Watching old school Porky Pig and Daffy Duck cartoons but lower the audio pitch to -4 or in some cartoons -8 brings a whole new perspective since it's Mel Blanc's actual speaking voice before they sped it up.
I really hope the the new head of live action Disney and what was once known as 20th Century Fox could at least revive and get creative with films again

He was the co-head of Searchlight Pictures which is a very auteur filmmaker driven label.

yes, I hope there's going to be more films like pirates of the carribbean/national treasure/narnia/percy jackson/diary of a wimpy kid (the 2010 film) again & not pointless live action remakes

@harry580 Disney made a lot of money with live action remakes and they aren't going to stop until no longer make money.

Don't like live action remake? Don't watch them at movie theater.

Disney is business to make money and they are not charity.

well, ratchet from robots 2005 said this: we're not a charity. That's why old fat face no longer sits in the big chair. He's a relic.
Whenever i see film that's a pointless remake or rehash of an IP from the 50 years.

I called them Shareholder Movies. Because you can tell this was made to please the higher ups and algorithms and they think the audiences are too stupid to notice.
Welp i have logged back in after almost 2 years. Glad to see the American side of animation is still so depressing and see how much American capitalism ruins art in this country.

kind of the reason why i left this site and don't go here too much anymore.

    Yeah, I understand.

    Take care.
A lot of 90's Japanese video game commercials were weird while their American counterparts were trying too hard to be edgy

I'm a 90s kid and I have a lot of fondness for that decade, but even at the time I found a lot of the marketing techniques that were popular then to be obnoxious and alienating

I heard Facebook has been doing pretty bad too. They had a major stock crash and they're losing users. Also fired like 11k employees.

Seems plausible; the show is just about old enough to have people growing up watching it.

Also, wasn't Uncle Grandpa mentioned in Family Guy?

I always enjoyed Uncle Grandpa unironically. It was the perfect show to turn off your brain and enjoy the madness. I could see why it was hated but I'm glad to see others are warming up to it.

I used to LOVE Miniclip as a kid. But yeah, looking at it now, it's sad that it has become a shell of its former selves.
it's hard to believe that Time Warner was once one of the biggest companies in the world.
But then they owned too much stuff and was high in debt that they end up selling stuff like Warner Music Group and Six Flags to name a few if I'm not mistaken.

Going offline until further notice. David Ellison has won. I’m seeking therapy permanently rather than quitting life. Take care everyone. Once I leave the world into the void, I hope my life is better.
Is that Joan Cusack voicing Jessie in that Toy Story Papa John's commercial? If so, it sounds rough. Woundn't surprise me if it wasn't, though.
