After the success of Nick Jr's NickMom, Nicktoons is also launching a nightly block, called NickDad, which will be targeted for adult males. The block will feature dad stuff like sports, newspapers, pipes and other random stuff your average stereotypical father likes.

Nickelodeon are also planning to launch NickGrandma and NickGrandpa blocks on TeenNick.

Disney Buys A Lot of Classic Nickelodeon Shows

Disney has released a statement today that they had spent a total of $4 million to most of Nickelodeon's classic series such as Rugrats, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Ahh!!! Real Monsters, Hey Arnold, Invader Zim, and Danny Phantom.

While Nickelodeon retains the rights to air older episodes of the shows mentioned above, Disney will be producing new episodes and spin-off series of these classics.

Disney's Rugrats will be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation in association with Mercury Filmworks who currently work on other Disney animated shows such as Wander Over Yonder and Star vs. The Forces of Evil. Alrene Klasky and Gabor Csupo will not be returning to the series. Instead, Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, who previously worked on the now ending Phineas & Ferb, will helm the series. 26 half-hour episodes are planned for a 2017 premiere on Disney XD.

Disney's The Ren & Stimpy Show will be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation. This series will be a lighter take on the 1991 original. This show will not contain any gross out moments or scenes of intense violence. Instead, it will be a Tom & Jerry type show, where Ren and Stimpy will play in a cat and mouse game where one will prevail at the end. This series has been picked up for 13 half-hour episodes, and no one is currently attached to the project yet. Disney is planning a 2018 release on Disney XD.

Disney's Ahh!!! Real Monsters will be a crossover spin-off of Pixar's Monsters University, where Ickis, Oblina and Krumm attend MU and learn to be scarers. This show will be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, and will be computer generated. 21 half-hour episodes have been ordered and is planned for an October 2017 premiere on Disney XD

Hey Arnold, You're in High School will be a live action, multi-camera, sitcom. This show will feature the Hey Arnold! cast in high school, living their daily lives with wacky situations. Arnold will be portrayed by Corey Fogelmanis (Girl Meets World) and Helga being portrayed by Bella Thorne (Shake it Up) and the show was picked up for 21 episodes, with a premiere date of Fall 2015 on Disney Channel. Production of the series will start Spring of this year.

Brand, Spankin' New Invader Zim will be a darker reboot of the 2001 series. Jhonen Vasquez, who's a character designer for Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja will be returning to helm the series. While Nickelodeon retains the rights to the older 27 episodes, Disney has went out of their way to purchase the merchandising rights for the show, which has been very popular in recent years. This reboot will have 52 episodes, and will end after that, as the series creator has already planned out an ending for this series. This show will be produced by Walt Disney Television Animation in association with Titmouse, Inc, and is planned for a Fall 2016 premiere on Disney XD.

Marvel's Danny Phantom is a reboot of the Danny Phantom franchise. This show will be produced by Marvel animation and will be a reboot of the series. 26 half-hour episodes are planned for a Spring 2017 release. Marvel is also planning on making Danny Phantom comics, and including Danny in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How do you feel about Disney buying these shows and making their own versions of them?
