With everyone pointing fingers about the edits in GRW, ADV released a very brief statement here:

Apparently, ADV knew the edits had to be done, and they even considered them minor. They also don't seem to be angry about it.

They're smart people.

beat me to it....

Does this mean ADV are the ones that lied?

Means the choice in that timeslot that got to the maximum amount of viewers that it could was bound by law to do the minimal edits that has caused the ruckus.

Blame the FCC. Figures.

Y'know what? I blame everyone!! I blame ADV for announcing uncut eps, I blame the CN for putting this on Toonami of all places, and most of all, I blame the BS&P for creating such strains in the first place.

Re: ADV Press Release Towards GRW

Quote by ADV Films press release:
Cartoon Network is also bound by the exigencies of daytime broadcast-including the requirement that the content they broadcast be, per FCC regulations, suitable for children. Cartoon Network's edits, which were minor, were in accordance with FCC broadcast requirements.

Hmm...I understand now. I guess Adult Swim can get away with little or no edits, because theres a different set FCC broadcast requirements for night time tv.

At this point, it doesn't even matter. The way I see it, ADV has accomplished it's goal. Because whether out of curisotity or sheer outrage, people are going to pick up Nadesico and EVA DVD's. Lots of them.

In that case I withdraw my eariler post :D

. . . and all this time, I thought (I don't assume . . . I never assume) the FCC didn't have much jurisdiction over cable programming, and the cable industry had to govern themselves. Go figure.

Yep. They sure did.

(Orders Eva Box Set) :)

well, ADV isn't outraged, but rather happy that it aired, so I'm happy. It means that there is still the possibility of future ADV/CN work. Lets just hope the right blocks get the right shows.

This is very good news, now there's still a chance of getting Noir on Adult Swim eventually! :D

Good. Now we know future CN-ADV relations are still possible.

The FCC doesn't regulate cable networks, nor do they have a specific set of requirements that CN follows (the FCC-mandated amount of ads per half-hour is 8 minutes, but CN has NEVER obeyed that, for example).

I'm sure what they meant to say was BS&P requirements and regulations. That would make sense.

There is no law that says you can't say "freakin'", "crap", "god", "kill", or "hell" on afternoon TV. Toonami themselves have done it in the past, which shows that the edits weren't really "minimal" either. This is a step backwards in Toonami's editting standards.

You know...

"kill" and "die" are in THE LION KING.

Someone should tell Williams Street and/or Turner BS&P that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the BS&P. They seem to be keeping CN down some more, even after the supposed switch to an "all ages network". Or, perhaps it WAS the FCC. I really don't know at this point.

Well, I'm glad this is all covered up.

Now you can all quit whining that GRW was edited and get to the important things, like CN SAYING GIGANTOR WOULD AIR INSTEAD OF COMMERCIALS.
