I thought that this episode was pretty good. Tanjiro's fight was still quite intense. Even though he managed to deal a fatal blow, the demon still had enough power to keep fighting back for awhile longer. It seemed like Tanjiro was really injured and exhausted if he couldn't even grab his sword. The fact that Nezuko had so much power without any human blood really showed off her skills. I still wonder if she'll eventually be trained so that she can fight off against other demons more effectively. She has a lot of brute strength, but it may not be polished enough to go up against other demons. Tamayo had to interfere with her own power to defeat the other demon.
That death was incredibly brutal though, so much so that I had to turn away from the screen for awhile. I'm also a bit concerned that so far the most brutal deaths in the series have been for female characters. That isn't to say that I'd want to see male characters die off in a similar fashion. I'd prefer for them to not go that far with any of the deaths. To be fair, these brutal deaths have been done to showcase just what kind of monster Kibutsuji is, so it isn't just for shock value. I might be just reading a bit too much into this, but female characters having the most brutal and goriest deaths so far is a bit of a red flag.
They were still effective in showing that at least some of these demons were once human. It doesn't feel too forced and it doesn't negate all of the damage that they did, but they're just able to regain some of their humanity upon their deaths. I was a bit confused over how Tanjiro suddenly wasn't injured anymore. He mentioned that he broke his leg and had pain in his ribs. I might have just missed a sign that there was a brief time skip between the end of the fight and the rest of the episode, but it didn't seem like any noticeable amount of time had passed.
I forgot that the spell on Nezuko was just for her to see humans as her family and that they were actually demons. I still really don't like the whole hypnosis plot point. I think it potentially robs Nezuko of too much of her own agency when they make her see humans as her dead family members. But I guess seeing demons as her family is an attempt to still give her some choice in the matter instead. I can still see why they did it and it was sweet how she hugged Tamayo like that, but it still felt like too easy of a solution. I do like that she made it clear that she didn't want to be away from Tanjiro though. She would have been potentially safer on the run, but she may not see Tanjiro again for who knows how long. Plus, I still wonder how much she remembers of her family's death, as well as her own. She may not want to be away from Tanjiro if she does remember that horrific event. I wasn't expecting the episode to end with a cliffhanger like that, but I guess they'll give that character a more proper introduction next time. Overall, it was a pretty good episode.
