Cartoon Cartoons Shorts Program

x.com

The future of the Cartoon Cartoons program is looking grim. Someone at Cartoon Network Studios kinda confirmed that the shorts program got dismantled and the social media marketing got laid off because of WBD's budget cuts and restructuring. CN/Cartoontio in the USA on social media kinda stopped in the summer of 2023. On top of shutting down the CN website and the lack of marketing of their current shows, I feel that WBD is not in a healthy financial position to invest much in animation like under WarnerMedia/AT&T.

Cartoon Cartoons was a product of the WarnerMedia regime that unfortunately did not align with WBD's current leadership.

Man, when is it going to end?! I’m tired of this BS.

^^Yeah, that sucks, but that'll happen when a network or studio changes hands. There are always casualties in a regime change. A regime change killed Megas XLR on CN, for example. The new higher-ups felt the show was too dude-centric and wanted shows with more of a general appeal as they were trying to attract more girl viewers at the time. That's why I'm done egging on more mergers and acquisitions; they seem to cause more problems than they solve.

Again, my sympathy goes to all those artists and animators whose work will now never see the light of day.

I overheard rumblings about the fate of the CC Shorts program in an animation industry server that I was a part of on Discord, so it sucks to see it corroborated here. Clearly, this field is not for the feint of heart.

True, but I’m still mad that their projects are not going to be seen again. It’s so unfair.

They ALMOST threatened to blacklist JJ Villard and other artists if they DARE sell their shorts to other networks such as Nickelodeon!!
If that’s true, then that’s disgusting.

If that's true, then it's pretty scummy. They're just going to sit on these shorts and then not let the artists take their chances somewhere else. The ONLY justifiable reason I can see for CN doing this is in case they may want to release them at some point in the future; otherwise, yeah, it's disgusting.

Not going to fearmongering about it and no one should. Disheartening and pinpointing it at Zaslav has gotten tiresome. Is the animation industry going to collapse? No it won’t. This oppression won’t stop until the old guard at WBD steps down and we get competent execs that actually understand it.

When did I ever fear monger on here?

Appearntly, having concerns and airing greviences against scummy tactics = fearmongering?

Okay, sure.

When that’s going to happened is a million dollar question I like to ask YOU about…

No one here is fear mongering, blaming David Zaslav or crying that the animation industry is dying, at least I'm not, and I know @JMTV isn't either. As I said previously, this is the unfortunate result of a project getting scrapped due to a change in management; things like this happen during regime changes all the time. However, the optics are not good: on the surface it appears to be yet another attempt by WBD to dump on the Cartoon Network brand and screw over animation talent. It's also not great news considering how Cartoon Network is currently starving for new shows and IPs that won't get shuffled off the Adult Swim side of the channel. A new slew of pilot shorts could've helped revitalize the CN schedule, but apparently these folks have "better ideas".

I wish Adult Swim ALSO saved all these shorts. That would not be ideal but it would mean the shorts would be SEEN AT LEAST.

Agreed. It just angries me up that Zaslav and co are focusing more on unscripted content than scripted content in terms of the cable channels.

I dont even know if he actually greenlights new material. I know this is impossible but at this point I picture him in his office wondering how could he destroy the legacy of WB more than he already did.

The fact they cancelled this does prove they aren't interested in giving Cartoon Network a chance at getting a boom of original series anymore.

It seems there will be a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25.

I might be the only one who cares but why is Scooby Doo basically unavailable everywhere? Netflix has only Mystery Inc and the two James Gunn movies. Tubi has What's New and Where Are You. Meanwhile HBO Max has basically nothing. I've been itching to watch the classic Scooby Doo direct to video movies lately and they're nowhere to be found outside of purchasing them on sites like YouTube.
Last night started watching a new adult animated series, a Netflix original that is basically the succesor to Big Mouth.

What is so great? Despite being a 18+ show, they actually bothered to give it a Romanian dub :ack::eek:
