From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:
"One of the most popular genres of “2D Platformer” video games is what has come to be known as the “Metroidvania” game. Based upon the two games that founded the genre (Metroid and Castlevania) the games feature a larger, interconnected map with sections that became unlocked over time (as the character develops new abilities). Whereas traditional 2D “Super Mario” would always travel from left to right, a character in a Metroidvania can go left, right, up, down, and then go through the whole level again to find a new section of the map. Recent years have seen a surge of Metroidvania influenced games among Indie developers, games like “Hollow Knight”, “Blasphemous”, “Animal Well”, and “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night”.
And now we have “Chronicles of the Wolf”! Yes, we’re jumping from vampires to werewolves, with the story drawing inspiration from the tales of “The Beast of Gévaudan” (a strange series of wolf attacks in France back in the 1700’s). The game is coming to us courtesy of relatively new publisher “Migami Game”. Located in Paris, France, the publisher’s only official game prior to this was 2020’s “Wallachia: Reign of Dracula” (another Castlevania side-scrolling action game), though before that they were known for developing fan-made (unofficial) Castlevania games."
