Wow.
I take back all the cruel things I thought about this show. It's a howl. Addressing some of the comments (which border uncomfortably on spam):
- "Cleopatra's personality was non-existant." She was popular and shallow. The way I see it, that was supposed to be the idea.
- "They also gave us 'Cardcaptors'." Are you still talking about that?! So it's one mistake the company made. One! Let it go!
- "sorry, there wasn't even a half second of humor in it." You should see a doctor as soon as yesterday. You're missing your funny bone.
The show was terrific on so many levels:
Gandhi remarking about Joan's...additions, the "Mr. Belvedere" reference (did anyone else catch this?), the attempts to buy beer and the design of Van Gogh's bedroom.
I feel I have to devote a whole paragraph to JFK. This guy is a riot. I'd quote some of his lines, but they may not be too approrpiate. The scene in the bathroom was a gem ("...and by 'will', I mean 'won't'. (he walks out, then comes back in) Be coming to my party. (leaves then returns) 'Cause you're not invited. I just wanted to make sure if I wasn't clear earlier. (one more time) Forgot to wash my hands.")
Only negatives were the somewhat heavy-handed treatment of Eleanor Roosevelt and whenever they did any teen love triangle crapola. Those moments caused the show to screech to a halt. Other than that, pure gold. I implore you to give it a chance.
****
Yeah, I know, but let's enjoy the ride while it lasts.
