One Piece, I'm still catching up. I hit 155 today, but boy, I wonder why I didn't initially watch it in the beginning.

And, I've never watched a Gundam show from the beginning, so 00'll be my first.

Hmm lets see, I have quite a list...

Actively following:

-Naruto Shippuden. Consistently worthwhile and true to the manga every week.

-One Piece. How can one not? Still the best currently running shonen.

-Romeo X Juliet: The best show from this season, hands down. Awesome art & animation, and a very well told story that references the original material without being a slave to it. Truly anime-style Shakespeare.

-Claymore: Solid fantasy show, albeit clearly influnced by the fighting genre. The brutal violence and dark atmosphere evokes memories of Berserk.

-Nanoha StrikerS: Nothing spectacular, but this has been decently entertaining. Fate and Nanoha are still considerably more interesting and endearing than their subordinates.

-Code Geass: Possibly the best show from 2006, depending on how they end it--this from someone who simply adores Kanon 2006. LeLouch is one of the best and most tragic characters to come along in a long time. Why isn't it July yet?

-Tales of Symphonia OAV: Very appealing fantasy, the first episode was better than I expected from a game-inspired anime. The opening score was simply enchanting.

Stuff I know I should be watching but haven't yet: Gurren Laggan, Heroic Age, and Toward the Terra. All this new mecha and sci-fi, and I'm slacking off? I am duly ashamed.

Recently stopped:

-Bleach. Not very eager for the necessary evil of the current filler arc.

-Prince of Tennis OAV. Seen most of it, but Ryoma vs. Atobe still isn't out there. The wait, it kills me...

-Negima!? What happened to this show? It was amusing to watch, but got more and more random with every episode once all that Black Rose Baron stuff started. Sometimes it seems to get incoherent and zany for its own sake. Note to the director: It'd be funnier with an actually coherent narrative every episode.

-Death Note: Actually, I stopped this after episode 2. Not a fan of the subject matter. I also don't like narcissistic, insane protagonists.

Semantic note: I'm not sure Lighto can technically be considered a protagonist, since that term is usually defined as the character the audience wants to win. I'd say that the majority of Death Note fans, even those who really like Lighto as a character and sympathize with him, don't actually want him to come out on top after all is said and done.

On the protagonist matter, I usually just equate that with the main character(s). I'll agree that this isn't to be confused with the role of the hero; they are often the same but in the case of Light and (argubly) Lelouch they are not.

Well, Lighto does get slightly more interesting later on. Thanks to the increasingly convoluted machinations surrounding the Death Note, he's forced to

erase his own memories of ever having possessed it, and it's interesting to see what that does to his character. He essentially reverts to his original uber-idealistic schoolboy persona (of which we'd previously only gotten hints), but what's interesting is that he's actually an even more formidable intellect because he doesn't have a bunch of ego clouding his judgment. In fact, he eventually more or less figures out that he'd previously possessed the Death Note and had intentionally inflicted amnesia on himself.

(I don't think the spoilers above will be any problem for you since you presumably won't be watching the rest of the series anyway, but I included spoiler tags out of courtesy for others.)

I'd certainly agree that Lighto is seldom sympathetic, but I find him to be the kind of ass who's fun to watch be an ass, if that makes sense.

I don't want to get into Lelouch too much, just because I'm a bit behind in my Geass-watching so there may be significant aspects to his character that I'm not aware of.

I think we're pretty much in agreement there; as I said, it's a minor semantic matter. I'm just nitpicky like that.

Was watching death note but read all the manga ahead of the series then lost interest in it after finishing the manga.

Also was going to try to start the Inuyasha series soon, only have ever caught it in the middle of the series or something on cartoon network and not know whats going on.

The only anime I'm actually keeping up, or even care about for that matter, is Ghost in the Shell for a couple reasons.

1. It is not exactly like the manga in it's writing so I can usually expect something new each episode without people moaning about how "the manga did it better".

2. They actually take their time with making these episodes. They produce 26 kick-ass episodes, wait to get renewed, and write another 26 kick-ass episodes. THEN they do a movie. I like that and it's something you don't see too often in anime series nowadays.

3. The serious story works because there aren't any characters trying to be overly emo to force drama into the show.

4. The attention to detail in the world of GITS is just stunning, from the designs to the technology.
