Do you relate to any DC character?

I have been enjoying Batman and other characters since I was 3, but I relize I relate alot to Joker (except for the insane part). I'm a comedian in training and can do several impersonations. To get people's attention (especially when I was younger), I did jokes and acted "crazy" of course, such like the Joker, people didnt take me serious, even when I think deep about many issues of life.

I also in a way relate to Batman. When I was younger I was alone and didnt have many friends. Such like Batman, I think of many solutions to solve my problems. And also to quote Batman "I have one power, Johnny. I never give up"; this quote I try to live by and always reach for my dreams.

How about you guys? Do you relate to any characters? Or am I loner in thinking this way?

Very clever and creative idea for a post. And (as a longtime comicbook fan) I can tell you that your attitudes in this regard are very easy to understand and relate to. I think all of us (readers I mean) look on these characters .... whether hero or villain .... with a certain level of awe. In short, we see similarities of ourselves mirrored here, or characteristics we can only dream of having. In terms of villains, I would say I see a little of myself in good ole' Riddler. Why? Simply because he is a clever thinker who goes about things abstractly (using his riddles to taunt Batman), and I am like that myself with certain projects or circumstances I undertake (like writing a story, or doing something else creative). Like you, I relate to Batman because I myself am the loner type and his sense of justice (right and wrong) I sympathize with. Superman is probably the one most similar to me. I am driven to do the "right thing" by others and the world around me (which is an attitude I basically got from home), even at the expense of myself. Also, I have been told that I am pretty much a "boy scout" for behaving along those lines, so I tend to empathize with Supey when people tease him for being so "noble".

There are many other characters I could talk about, but these are the most revelant to the topic at hand. Once again, excellent question. I'm curious to see what other members have to say.

See that good looking guy on the left? Yep. I have always related to him. When I was a kid, my parents were separated, and I didn't quite understand my dad not being around (to clarify, they never married, so they just broke up when I was 3). I watched the Batman TV show in reruns every day after Bozo the Clown here in NY (on Channel 11) and started to think..."Maybe Daddy's fighting crime?"

Thus I became Robin, my dad was Batman, and my cousin Melanie was Batgirl. I used to fight kids in pre-school to protect others, the whole bit. I was Dick Grayson. We even called every car I was in the Batmobile.

My dad passed away in 88 and you would think that the natural progression would be to now relate to Batman, but nope. I totally get Nightwing. Before getting the Batman Adventures gig, I submitted a few Nightwing stories (I even have a Nightwing/BA story in the office which will probably never sell, but...) and I got rejected on all of them, but I have faith. I hope that one day, I will take over for Devin and write at least a year's worth of Nightwing story.

I already have my first year plotted.

So, there's your answer.

I relate most with Batman. I'm a bit of a loner but I always have my friends at my side at a moments notice. And just like David the Joker whenever I have a problem at school or with anything else I always think of Batman's quote from Mask of the Phantasm when he was going to sacrifice himself to get rid of the Joker once and for all (see signature below).

Oh I love questions like these and the responses that result! I've always found myself relating to Dick or Barbara. Dick because of his cheerful outlook on life no matter what odds he faced. He is such an optimistic and friendly character and doesn't normally get negative when given a dark situation. Barbara because she's close to her dad, and I'm very close to my family and was to my dad until his death this past july. He always reminded me of a gruff, stern, but very soft and loving Jim Gordon. Also because Barbara has such a thirst for knowledge and reveres it so highly. I was delighted with her concentration on studies and earning degrees and being as knowledgeable as possible. As well as for her determination when given a less than lovely situation, at least in the comic realm. No road bumps in her life are going to slow her down, she doesn't let up on what she wants to, she always finds a way to overcome. I've also got a soft spot for good looking guys that like to fight crime, computers, and having red hair.

I can relate to a wide range of different elements or aspects of characters in the DCAU, I share Mr. Delsante's love of Dick Grayson. In fact, the animated Dick Grayson is my single most favorite character in any fiction. While much of my love for this character transcends any logic or rationality, in a sense when I was younger I "grew up" with the character. As Dick grew and matured through The New Batman Adventures, I did as well. He's always been one step older than me, and an ideal role model (probably much moreso than Batman). He has a similar obsession as Batman, but handles and copes with it in a completely different manner. On the exterior, he's a really happy guy, has great friends and generally what appears to be a highly satisfactory life, but internally there is that level of discontent that is only alleviated by fulfilling the calls of his obsession. He's socially concious, and puts his own moral values over following the orders of Batman (as exemplified by episodes such as "Second Chance").

As he matured, he was able to cope with his parental neglect fairly well, and worked to keep the same sorts of things from happening to Tim that Dick experienced... he seems to have worked hard to provide the unconditional love and support that Batman often fails to display. That barely scratches the surface of why he's such an amazing character that I can relate to... I could go on for pages.

What makes the DCAU characters so versatile - particularly Batman's cast of characters, in my opinion - are that they're very human and have a lot of characteristics you can see in yourself, whether you like it or not. It's not so much just good guys going up against bad guys - the good guys have flaws, and many of the bad guys have heroic attributes.

That said, my namesake and I share a lot in common, simply because everyone has two (or more) faces to their personality. ;-Y

The Clock King, I have this near insane obbsession with running my life on schedule, I ussally act crazy and iritate people I don't like so that makes me like Mr. Mxypklytz.

Hn... I suppose, in the comics version, Wally West. I've been thrown into an emotional rollercoaster before. My parents didn't get along, and I especially didn't like my mom for a LONG time. (For Wally, his dad.) I lost people I loved, and for a long while, I was pretty messed up, but I eventually got back onto my feet.

Oh, and I guess the fact that I have to learn to be patient (I like ONE MINUTE is a life time) and I have one helluva metabolism. But that's kind of unrelated.

But mostly, the emotional aspects I can relate to.

Joker--------->Dark sense of humor, sometimes I feel like my brain is just one big battle between Batman and The Joker.

Relating to DC characters is tricky for me. I think I would better fit with the ordinary, sometimes depressing folks of the Marvel Universe. However, I've started reading Starman and it really appeals to me. Like Jack Knight, I have appreciation for old stuff and the ideas they represent. Another similarity is the contradiction in that while I have a soft spot for trivial history and wish that the world would return to those charming eras, at the same I try to distance myself from the person I used to be (Jack in the beginning denies ever having any love for the old heroes, but when he was kid, he wanted to be just like his dad.). I literally cringe whenever some embarrassing childhood memory (that's like 85% of my memories) pops into my head.

I often can also relate to Shade in his love for his hometown and the way that he tends to do the "right" thing while being clueless as to why. Though, in my case I think I can blame it on reading too many comic books

I think I relate most to J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter on one hand in that I, having lost my family to an unfortunate incident at a young age, have always felt somewhat separate from other people. But, finding it necessary to function within society, have doned various guises (less dramatic, certainly) for ease of purpose. Like J'onn, I long for that what was taken from me and fearing further loss am reluctant to start new relationships.

On the other hand, I relate not to Superman but Clark Kent. I too was raised by an elderly couple who instilled in me what I hope are good values and a desire to treat others with respect and empathy. However, I do not have the Kryptonian persona to fall back on and so must muddle through life achieving what I can from merely human abilities. And, like Clark, I am less driven by revenge or righteousness than a desire for fairness and mercy. Maybe my critique of the character is wrong since it is sometimes difficult to separate Superman from Clark Kent, but it works for me in this regard.

Now I'll say 20 "Hail Marys" and leave a donation as I exit.

-I can be a bit immature/juvenile and a pervert sometimes, and I try to make others laugh... to no avail. XP

-On the other hand, I can get *really* depressed and moody. Then again, some of my friends say I have various personalities like Raven in the episode 'Nevermore'. I just kinda keep to myself and throw out the occasional dry insult.

This is a very interesting topic indeed.And an old one too...so hope u people don't mind that I brought it up again.Umm...the first chracter that comes to mind is Batgirl(Barbara Gordon).The main thing I can instantly relate to, is that just like babs, i look a LOT younger than I am, which does give me a bit of a problem. I feel that sometimes I need to prove to others that I am more than I look..I Also love my Dad, my family,a lot and we are all very close.Like her I have a taste for the wild side;So much so that I intend on taking martial arts classes this summer .I am also a feminist and tend to get offended easily about gender related issues.And I do have a bit of a thing for the batman...
I can most certainly reelate to Batman in the sense that I am not a social person at all.I have a few, but very close friends and usually am known as a loner.I feel that only few people really know the 'real' me as I don't get intimate with people easily.

I relate most to the Flash. I mean, he's a light hearted joker and so am I. Plus, we both commonly have our minds in the gutter. I just see too much of myself in him.

However, I do see quite a bit of me burried in Raven. Mainly because I don't really tend to argue with people unless it's important. Outside of that, fightning and getting angry and yelling doesn't do anything, it's a waste of time and I'm better to spend it doing absolutely nothing than to quarrel.

Finally, I guess I see a bit of myself in Starfire, as I can be very cheerful and out going. Usually this side of me gets crushed once the reality of people and how much they can suck end up sinking in for the day, but I am pretty happy go lucky at times.

Oh, and some Hawkgirl, cause I'm pretty stubborn about things.
