I mean when they were on TV, not how many episodes they had. Jonny Quest moreso of course. I mean Swat Kats was extremely popular and it's barely longer than The Pirates of Dark Water. I was trying to think of some forgotten cartoons, and I can't really think of any because I forgot them.

One of my favorites , Time Warp Trio, I think is kind of forgotten if not heavily remembered. I watched it when it was on Saturdays on NBC and loved it . Still do watch it on the DVD recordings I have from when I recorded it on Discovery Kids.

I remember watching Discovery Kids on NBC Saturday mornings. I enjoyed Kenny the Shark and Tutenstein, which could be two more forgotten cartoons you can add.

Definitely those two as well. So can Growing Up Creepie which came on after Discovery Kids and NBC parted ways.

I don't think I'd consider Pirates of Dark Water immensely popular. At most, I could see it developing a cult following over the years, but I doubt that a lot of people would still remember it given it hasn't aired in years and it lasted for a short amount of time. I'm not sure if it legally available online either.

Defenders of the Earth:

Before the idea of connective universes became a thing, this series teamed up Flash Gordon, Mandrake the magician, and The Phantom. It's interesting all have had solo toons and films.

Even more obscure; might be where they actually first teamed-up.

I don't think anybody's forgotten Alf. That had one of the best cartoon theme songs of the 1980's. Which is quite a statement.

I actually remember Mighty Max albeit faintly. I know he fought the supernatural, but can't remember the context. And Alf is iffy since I wasn't aware about an animated series, but the live action was one of the most popular shows at the time.

Mighty Max: Went ahead and read the Wikipedia listing and that's ANOTHER show that feels like it came too early for it's own good.

Edit: I just remembered another cartoon from back in those olden days about a genius baby who'd shrink himself microscopic and go on adventures and I think also travel in space?

Found it, Fantastic Max.

Yeah Mortal Kombat had a TV show. Even more weird that the show aired on USA Network of all places.

This is more of a forgotten animated special than a series, but it's called The Electric Piper. It aired on Nickelodeon once back in 2003, but never saw any official release. I could only vaguely remember a few details about it myself, especially when I only saw the last half of the special, but I only discovered its title through a Wikipedia entry. It was about a group of kids who wanted to play music and followed a magic musician into a mountain where they were separated from their parents for a long time. It's not surprising that it is forgotten. Airing only once and never being officially available would do that to any special, but I was happy to finally find out what it was called after not knowing what it was for years.

Some of Martin Gates Productions' cartoons don't get a lot of exposure now. Both Abbey Home Media and Monster Entertainment pushed for a rerelease of The Dreamstone, though allegedly didn't get enough support (Germany's getting the whole series on DVD however). It's follow on Bimble's Bucket is even more obscure.

Even earlier, the creator of both, Mike Jupp, worked on a short lived but wonderfully bizarre cartoon called The Bluffers. Try finding that anywhere.

Ronin Warriors, Samurai Pizza Cats, Monkeymagic, Monster Rancher, Flint the Time Detective, Cardcaptors, The Vision of Escaflowne, Dinozaurs, The Big O, Medabots, Mon Colle Knights, Shinzo, Fighting Foodons, Soul Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, Lost Universe, Samurai 7, Paranoia Agent, Gungrave, Tokko, Tokyo Majin, My Bride Is A Mermaid, Dinosaur King, and Bakugan - All of them great underrated anime, a shame they are so unpopular/forgotten.

While the heavily edited English Cardcaptors dub is something many prefer to slip under the rug, the original Japanese edit, Cardcaptor Sakura from what I know is still quite beloved, especially in Japan. Helped by the fact it's recently had a revival series, along with tons of other CLAMP works making nods to it.

Here's a few great forgotten cartoons/anime,

My Pet Monster - A great classic comedy series of the 80s with great classic comedy and Monster, Max/Jill, Chuckie, and Beastur were great classic characters.Cool that it's from the creators of Beetlejuice.

Bump In The Night - Great enjoyable obscure stop-motion comedy series with great wacky comedy and Mr. Bumpy/Squishington/Molly's great fun adventures.It's forgotten sadly, but the best Saturday morning classic show ever.

Stone Protectors - Awesome classic action series about the rock band the Rock Detectors becoming troll superheroes to save the world from Zok/The Saurians, and Zok, my favorite best classic action series villain.Enjoyed the toy commercials of it way back.

The Adventures of Hyperman - Great funny underrated superhero comedy series based on an educational computer game from CBS with great comedy/action, both Hyperman/Studd Puppy, Emma, Entrobe, and Kidd Chaos, great enjoyable classic characters.It's pretty forgotten though, but love the show.

Channel Umptee-3 - Great classic underrated comedy cartoon from Kids'WB about Ogden, Sheldon, and Holey having great crazy adventures with their fun underground television station and Stickley Rickets, a great funny classic corporate villain.

The Weekenders - Such an awesome enjoyable underrated slice-of-life show ever with great fun comedy with Tino, Carver, Tish, and Lor and their great fun weekend moments.My favorite best Disney series ever.

Catscratch - It was great/enjoyable, better than The Fairly Oddparents/SpongeBob SquarePants, the best epic comedy Nicktoon ever of the 2000s.
