It's that time of the year again. On this date some thirty or so years ago, an eight-year-old boy was walking along a darkened street with his parents. They had just come the movies, having just seen the classic swashbuckling tale The Mark of Zorro. The parents hang back a bit and discuss the movie, while their son scampers ahead, slashing at imaginary villains with an invisible sword, his sweet childish laughter ringing in the warm air and bouncing off the grimy alley walls. Then a shadow detaches itself from the wall. The light from a nearby streetlamp glints off of a silver gun. The man demands money, then grabs for the mother's pearl necklace. The father leaps to his wife's defense. A scream, a shot, a splash of blood upon the cracked pavement, and a child's sweet laughter is silenced forever.

On this date some thirty or so years ago, at 10:47 PM Eastern Standard Time, Thomas and Martha Wayne died and the Batman was born.

Okay, I'm obsessive, but Batman has made such an impact on my life, I feel I must remember and honor this night. As always, I plan to dig out APPOINTMENT IN CRIME ALLEY and, finally, I AM THE NIGHT. I'll probably also flip through THE GREATEST BATMAN STORIES EVER TOLD, and maybe read through a poem I wrote once retelling the story of Batman's birth. I'll probably watch a couple of Guy Williams Zorro episodes, too, since I don't own a copy of The Mark of Zorro (yet!).

There's probably no point to this thread, 'cause odds are I'm the only person around here crazy enough to celebrate this day, but if you have something to say, about Batman's origin or any plans you've made for today or just Batman in general, feel free! That way this thread will have a point. I just thought I should remind everybody, that's all.

Anyway, Happy Birthday, Batman...

Awesome! This seems like a great way to pay tribute to my obsession, since the animated Batman has been such an influence on my life.

Happy Birthday Batman, and thanks for the years of inspiring and entertaining stories!

How very cool!

Happy Birthday, Batman!! :D

*Bows to M'ral's awesome Batman knowledge*

I'd give him a cake, but chances are he'd just glare at me. :p

I guess all I can do is through in my sentiments, as well. I totally forgot what today was, but the blinding heat'll do that to ya! It's great to see someone so immersed in Batman's lore that she actually celebrates it. I make note of the day and acknowledge it by reading my favorite Batman stories, both mainstream and animated, and then continue on.

Happy Birthday, Batman.

Cool! Thanks for letting us know that it was Batman's birthday today M'ral, I never knew that.

Happy birthday Mr. Wayne :)

Not exactly sure how today is your birthday, Batman (what is this info based on?)...but here, buddy...

*Giant hug*

I think you need that!

I think you need that!

BATMAN: (EMbarrassed) Erm...well... *ahem*... I think I hear the Bat-Signal...

(Swings off on the bat-line)

DISNEYBOY: (Scratching head) "Hear a Batsignal?" How do you hear a bat-signal...*HEY*!

:-)

Seriously, despite May 1939 being his debut, happy birthday to Bats as well. If anything, we should be saying happy birthday to *Superman*---who debuted in June 1938, 65 years ago this month!

Re: comics: The "June 26" date of the Waynes' deaths is IIRC from the story "To Kill a Legend", from the early 80's. Though I'd say it's more "approx. 25-30 years ago" instead of "30something" years ago (Bats doesn't seem *that* old to me, but let's not get into that argument again)

Any idea what date Bruce Wayne's birthday is? I heard Feb. 18 from somewhere (old 70's comic IIRC)...

Haven't a clue. I think I read once (just once) that Bruce's parents were actually taking him to the movies for his birthday, but I've forgotten where I read it, and it's possible that it's a fake fictional factoid I made up for my own fanfics.

And oh yeah, I forgot about Superman! He he...oops. :o I hope all the Superman fans here aren't going to hurt me now. I'm just a one-hero kind of girl. But to be fair, I do celebrate Superman's fictional birthday in February...or is it March? (Damn Leap Year birthdays!)

On the headstone of the Golden Age Bruce Wayne, his date of birth is listed as April 7th. To my knowledge, the current BW's DOB has never been mentioned, so I just use the original one.

Happy Birthday Batman! Funny, I never knew that his parents died on the 26 of June. Oh well leave it to M'ral to introduce me to that little factoid. Anyway, happy B-Day though I doubt Batman would condsider that date anything to celebrate. Well he will go to crime alley and such but not to celebrate.

hehe, hon, there wouldn't be a DC animated forum if some of the rest of us weren't as nutty and obsessive as you! I feel bad that I forgot today was Batman's beginning....course I could never forget Grayson's birthday :D go figure...

*cuddles Batman plushie* I'm definitely going home tonight after work and throwing on my Batman pj's and maybe watch some of the animated episodes and/or read through some of the comics. Actually, I finally went and got the Complete History of Batman...think that'd be more appropriate to skim through tonight! Hehe, I should probably wash the BatBug tonight too, it should look pretty on today of all days!

Who knew this character would create such a massive and devoted following? It's mind boggling and damn impressive.

Love ya Batman!

Happy birthday, Batman!

*WHISPERS TO EVERYONE* I...I don't think he's gonna respond to this at all, guys...hate to break it to you... :D

*AND THEN BATMAN WALKS IN* Whoa!

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
