It was an old comic strip. It was turned into a cartoon in the '80's that has one of the best theme songs ever.

Yes, this thread is still alive somehow: here's the series bible. The little girl is not Iggy, but a totally new character named Marcy (don't worry, Iggy and his family are still here). It's much more in-line with the original comics:

To me they look more creepy then cute I'm not sure whats up with all the older 80/90s toons jumping on the CGI bandwagon its not it's the only style of doing animation

Also @ SweetSourGone: yes, the "Catillac" Cats were invented by DIC* for their version. OTOH, DIC's show isn't exactly the original show, although admittedly there are more people familiar with this show then the previous one made by Ruby-Spears in 1980 (where, incidentally, Iggy actually looks like Iggy from the comics).

*Whose catalog is now part of Cookie Jar, who in turn is now part of DHX Media.

While I like Heathcliff getting attention again, those designs look awful and just scream contemporary Garfield rip off. It might be able to capture the spirit in writing, but why do they insist on making this stuff so ugly?

I am wondering who will voice Heathcliff though. He's one Mel Blanc role that hasn't been filled in for since his death.

Is Heathcliff supposed to be a toddler? What's up with that forehead? Is his design supposed to resemble a KidRobot vinyl figure? Does the little girl have a name? Where are her eyebrows? I don't understand.

OK, so actually, the character designs look a little better in 2D concept art, but I have no idea where a show like this would thrive nowadays. Netflix? 6:30AM on Cartoon Network? As a web series on YouTube?

Here we go again. Yet another animated series reboot that looks a lot cuter and more childish than the original. What's up with this trend, seriously? And that CGI trying to imitate, in this particular case, The Garfield Show. Just terrible.

Making the characters "cute" means they're appealing to pre-schoolers and up. In other words, it ain't for us older folks.

I dunno, Heathcliff (both series) were already pretty dumb. If this were as dumb as either of those versions, I'd be very surprised.

I don't know why people are so bothered with this. Both previous Heathcliff cartoons were travesties. They aren't exactly remaking Citizen Kane here.

Seriously, though. Ever heard the phrase, "don't judge a book by its cover"? That said however, a show's design style can sometimes (but not always) be a clue as to what they're going for. I mean, if this is just going to be a parody series, or something, then I won't bother. OTOH, I'm not concerned about Heathcliff talking, since, as I mentioned once before, unlike Garfield, Heathcliff actually talks (i.e., with his lips moving), although he doesn't talk at all in the comics, so I won't mind at all. All in all, though as long as they stay true to the spirit of the comics, or (maybe) even previous versions, it will be okay.

*After all, "Heathcliff just won't be undone, playing pranks on everyone". That's why he's "the sassiest, brassiest, classiest cat".
