Jokes in Family Guy You Don't Get

Wait a minute...Dazed & Confused wasn't released in the 80's! How'd that slip through MacFarlane's 80's obsession?

Yeah, and it doesn't even take place in the '80s, it takes place on the last day of school in May of 1976.;)

I remeber one where stewie was talking about something he could hear in the attic and it cut to a woman like oh crap oh crap oh crap ohhhh crap.

Another one was when the guy that played the first green goblin came from underneath his bed and was like ya sleep yet and stewie says no. and he says just checkin'.

and another one I remember was when stewie was telling some guy to catch the ball and he did and he grabbed it and the player fall's over trying to catch it.

I think the point behind that one was, as Weird Al put it, that William Dafoe is scary enough without the Green Goblin mask on.

Oh yeah because when he came from under that bed I was pretty shaken for an hour

Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal showing up at the end of the Y2K episode. The infamous shower scene at the end of the ninth season of Dallas (which turned out to be "all a dream", thus reconning the entire season out of existence) happened when I was really, really young. Therefore, when I first saw it, I didn't get the joke at all.

Uncle Sam's nipples.

Someone explain to me how this is funny.

This isn't a troll on the show, I'm genuinely curious as to how this is a joke.

I still don't get the joke about the Osmonds wasting water. It seemed like the opposite of a joke.

Yeah like I understand that all the things they mention in the cutaway are examples of wasting water, but why'd they use the Osmonds?

Because someone on staff obviously finds the Osmonds to be incredibly funny for whatever reason. I personally think the "Osmond family wastes water" cutaway is funny because of the way they're drawn and voiced.

In Stewie Kills Lois, Stewie says something about how "******bags ruin the guitar" and we see some guy singing with some girls around him. What was the joke? Was he singing badly? What?

According to urbandictionary

That annoying guy that always talks about how cool he is, how tough he is, and acts like he is better than everyone. He tries to start **** with people and be a complete dorkhttp://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dick - usually unknowingly since he doesn't catch the fact that he's making a fool out of himself.

Basically the joke it about guys who know about 4 chords on the guitar, think they can write a song about nothing and somehow women will find them attractive because they think they have feelings and can play an instrument, not to mention the "College" version is the kind of guy who will drink an entire bottle Jack Daniels, Crown Royal, or other high end alcohol and save the damn empty bottle & put it on display for everyone else to see, also the College version sometimes like to put their speakers from their stereo in their window because the ENTIRE REST OF THE WORLD just HAAAASSSSS to listen to this SUM41 song.

Sneakers O'Toole

Even now if I ever watch it, I just go "...what?"

There's a scene in one episode with Stewie dressed up as a cruise ship captain and dancing with women in swimsuits as funky music plays and they chase each other around the house.

It's a sexy party. Not much more to it than that.

Wrong.

I always took that as a Benny Hill reference.

Monterey Jack has the right of it.

It's the kind of thing that MacFarlane thinks "weird" = "funny". Not neccesarily.

Hey, I think it's funny just because it's so damn random. Who in the world is Sneakers O'Toole and why does everyone want him to take his sneakers off? Just who is this guy? To me it's just so funny because it's so out there.

What about
"John Foot(CENSORED)"
"It's Hancock now!"
"Why?"
"Mind your business, that's why!"

I PM'd you the explanation, as I felt it wasn't appropriate for this board.

was the setup something like "sounds like a North Dakota woman having sex?"

and another one I remember was when stewie was telling some guy to catch the ball and he did and he grabbed it and the player fall's over trying to catch it.
This really happened (well, sans Stewie of course). The guy was blamed with screwing up the Cubs' chances at going to the world series.

One episode Peter said "Back up your bags, The Griffins are hitting the Big Apple!"

Then it cut to Speed Racer and his dad standing outside the window. "Ha Ha, The Griffins are going to New York! This has nothing to do with us at all. Ha ha!"

I guess I kinda get it. It's trying to be random. It's still stupid and unfunny.

Well, Speed and his dad appeared earlier in the episode for a relevant joke during the scout race. It was just a callback to the previous joke.

This thread is to ask for explanations of jokes or references that you don't get. It is NOT a thread for you to show up, quote a joke, and then say, "I get it, I just don't like it." Keep it on-topic, no trolling.
