Is Martian Man Hunter a parody or inspired by Dr.Spock of Star Trek, or more accuratly,Which is the parody of the other...?

Martian Manhunter predates Spock by quite a few years, IIRC.

Outside of the fact that both J'onn and Spock are aliens (well, Spock is half-alien), what characteristics do they share that would lead you to believe that one is inspired by the other? Neither the comic book incarnation of J'onn nor his cartoon representation bears any resemblance to Spock's character that I can think of.

I'd have to agree. I have never heard ANYTHING about them being based on one or the other.

Dr. Spock is a famous baby doctor who wrote some books. Lots of people get them confused, though, so don't feel bad...

J'Onn debuted between 1954 and 1957. Be damned if I remember the exact year.

So yeah, he's got Spock by nearly a decade.

J'onn J'onzz debuted in Detective Comics (can't remember the issue #) in November 1955 (as the backup story to Bats, natch)...

Martian Manhunter's first appearance was in Detective Comics # 225, and yes...that was published in 1955...whereas Spock came around about a few years later in 1961 or 1962, whenever it was that "The Cage" was made. But nobody ever knew about Spock until the show actually aired...which was in 1966. A few years later. I do see similarities in their personalities, but Spock's emotions are more supressed...sort of...out of all of the Vulcans that were ever on Star Trek I think he was one of the more emotional ones. But I think that Martian Manhunter is more emotional...I think both characters are quite intriquing though, and I'm glad someone else other than me notices the similarities in Spock. Oh, and as for Dr. Spock, he's the guy that tried to re-invent the art of parenting but instead he created an entire generation of child rebelion. I like the Mr. Spock better.

You know I almost started a thread like this a while back. I planned it to focus on their similarities. While MM has emotions he doesn't express that much. And they both have mental powers. And don't forget, they both say "fascinating" a lot.

J'onn bears a closer influence by another John.
Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom Hero John Carter Warlord of Mars
His costume is similar to the cloak and harness that Carter wore.

Also the native Tharks were green and hairless.
