Nickelodeon Schedule Discussion, Part 2

On Monday, Dec. 23, SaC is getting a marathon beginning at 3 p.m. Wonder if Nick is gonna use that stretch to advertise the 1-hour special with the iCarly/Victorious guest stars. It'll be interesting to see what Nicks Christmas lineup will be for that week.

Full House has just started at 8:28PM today instead of 8:30PM which is odd

Looks like Christmas week for Nick is gonna be Nick Jr. Christmas specials, then Nickelodeon Christmas specials, then beginning at 4 p.m. Nick is gonna air marathons of their top shows. SaC gets Monday, SBSP on Tuesday, FOP gets Christmas Day (that's kinda surprising), and I'm curious which other two shows will get Thursday and Friday. I'd assume it would come down to SJC and TMNT. Although TTM and THH may also get nods.

I'm not surprised FOP gets added to marathon. Overall happy SaC is getting marathon. If FOP gets marathon, when will it be able to bring out new episodes? The last recent episode had been pulled and never before seen episodes aired other countries and so does SpongeBob.

UPDATE: Starting this Monday 8PM week would be featured movie night. Monday: Look Who's Talking (encore from Sunday), Tuesday: The Last Airbender (originally scheduled to do Sunday but changed to Look Who's Talking), Wed: SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Thurs: 7PM SpongeBob SquarePants Movie....again, Fri: Total Turtle Takeover (depsite not being promoted as Friday anymore... as it should've been), but these Thurs and Fri could be changed.. Movie night for primetime weekdays seem to be good idea as Disney has been airing movies with great ratings.

Look Who's Talking doesn't really fit well with Avatar and SBSP and weird that Nick is airing SBSP two days in a row. Yeah, Disney is going on a movie binge for the rest of December, but should Nick try to replicate that, Scooby Doo 1&2, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Over the Hedge, Rugrats in Paris, Spongebob, Avatar and Swindle, Jinxed, and their Christmas movies is how they should do that. To me, it just seems like a random change.

Anyway, the weekday afternoon marathon during Christmas week was revealed by NickandMore schedule update:

Monday: Sam and Cat
Tuesday: Spongebob Squarepants
Wednesday: The Fairly Oddparents
Thursday: The Thundermans/The Haunted Hathaways
Friday: Rabbids Invasion/Sanjay and Craig

THIS is a pretty interesting move by Nick. The marathons as well as the Nick Jr. and Nickeldeon Christmas specials will mean the LEAST amount of SBSP during a week in years. HUGE gamble by Nick to put its weekday ratings at risk and actually go through with this (assuming things don't change). But I suppose with no premieres and a whole set of capable shows, now is the time to try. No TMNT though... Unless this continues during the weekend.

I would think this would be an event and that Nick will likely try to advertise this right? I could see this being used as a tool to promote new seasons and new shows beginning in January, as well as an opportunity to see what shows might be able to earn more weekday slots, as I'm sure Nick is considering diversifying its weekday schedule more now that they have a stable set of shows.

Wow I'm pretty shocked. I honestly can't remember the last time Nick has aired a 2 hour+ marathon of any shows other than SBSP/FOP. That's a big risk on Nick's part. Especially got my eye on that SJC/RI marathon. RI really has grabbed my attention lately with it's repeat success. First it was Saturday @ 8AM now its that 4PM slot. RI has pulled some pretty shockingly high numbers. I don't think SJC or FOP hit 2M in that slot. Perhaps Nick really has a sleeping hit in RI. Maybe the reason it doesn't premiere very high is the extreme lack of chemistry between it and TMNT (and the fact that both shows have been largely neglected this Fall). I have stated before that this show has potential. SJC, obviously being one of Nick's 3 top hits, has nothing it needs to prove and has already proven itself as a capable repeat and premiere performer and should do well. But as I said, keep your eye on RI.

Maybe RI can slip into the 9:30 a.m. slot when FOP doesn't have premieres. I do agree, TMNT and RI may not be the best combination. RI does work better alongside FOP and SBSP as seen from its weekday and early weekend numbers. Problem is Nick can't move into the earlier Saturday slots because those are SBSP peak hours. When the new Nicktoons premiere, they'd have to air 11 a.m. on. Not sure if shows like BW and RI can really thrive during the 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. hours.

Regardless, I was a upset SJC was removed from the weekday lineup for RI. But in all fairness, RI is performing better at that slot right now. You gotta admit, this show has found its niche. I thought it would be cancelled, but it's super consistent on premieres (only two episodes under since it's premiere) and is posting FOP like repeat numbers weekdays and weekends. It's overall premiering better than all of CNs new shows and comparable to Disney's WOY. I really wanna see the boy demos for this show, since I assuming that's the target.

I know this schedule may seem a little weird...but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Here's what I would do:

Fridays:
7: FOP
7:30: Breadwinners (I think it would be a good idea to launch a show out of Nick's most consistent show).

Saturdays:
9:30: Rabbids Invasion (very risky, but 7:30am airing managed to tie an 8:30pm airing of TMNT (1.2M)
10:00: Spongebob
10:30: Sanjay & Craig
11:00: TMNT
11:30: ?? (Nick could schedule a TMNT encore here, or put Power Rangers premieres in this slot while Korra is on hiatus).

Nick now has a hit animation lineup, but with more animation programs on the way, they can't schedule all of them on Saturday. I'm not saying Nick should do this immediately, they should test it out first. For example, schedule repeats of FOP, and Rabbids in those slots for a few weeks. If they score well, then move them. I feel like PR will maintain most of TMNT's audience, so no worry there. They both target boys.

I think the problem with the TMNT/Rabbids combo is TMNT skews older (6-11), while Rabbids skews younger (2-5).

There's no rush to move shows to different nights. Nick can air SBSP and FOP whenever they want and they'll do well. Weekly premieres of SJC, TMNT, RI and MvA (which will be done by January or early February), are manageable. BW will just replace MvA once it's done. SIDE NOTE: I bet SBSP will get another Monday night holiday premiere in January and BW will sneak peak after.

If Nick EVER wanted to make a Friday night move, they need to go with their big guns SBSP/FOP. After what happened to LoK, the only cartoon I'd feel comfortable leading a Friday night block is SBSP. The SBSP encore the next morning at 10 a.m. will still do great and I think SJC (2.8-3.2M) and TMNT (2.6-3.0M) aren't dependent on SBSP anymore and will have their typical numbers regardless of how high or low SBSP is.

Getting back to topic, Korra, Bad Seeds, and PGBC probably won't be ready until next Fall. That's when Nick will probably be forced to evaluate another premiere block for Nicktoons. For now, maybe Nick can just tweak the Saturday lineup. Since FOP may not premiere regularly, Nick could try your RI-SBSP-SJC-TMNT-(MvA) lineup. Then just swap out RI when FOP premieres. The only problem is Nick might lose momentum from SBSP to RI and back to SBSP. Part of the reason FOP was there was cuz it wouldn't break Nicks momentum. I'd even be open to RI premiering at 8 a.m. While the rest of the block premieres later. As you said RI skews much younger... Almost Nick Jr. ish.

PR will never get out of their 1 p.m. slot and seriously, if Nick wants a show to air after TMNT until LoK returns it's KFP. We already know TP, PoM, and RaM are officially on Nicktoons. But KFP is still in limbo. Why Nick has treated such a capable show this way makes no sense. I can guarantee it'll retain a good portion of TMNTs audience probably hit 2.4M regularly. Sigh....

-----

I could also see Nick eventually having a rotating Saturday morning block, like a Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall set. You'd hope Nick will still keep shows on air with reruns! but basically shows are premiering while others are on hiatus. It could go:

Winter/Spring: RI-SBSP-SJC-TMNT-LoK
Summer/Fall: FOP-SBSP-BS-PGBC-BW

Sam & Cat 1 hour special is scheduled to air Monday, January 20

So... I guess SaC gets premieres Jan. 4 and 11. No premiere on Saturday, the 18th, but the special will air on Monday the 20th most likely at 7 p.m. This is Martin Luther King Jr. day, so I guess no SBSP holiday premiere.

But I guess that works.... Weird that this special would warrant a Monday night slot though. Nick better treat it like a HUGE event because guarantee that night will be competitive.

So peculiar. On Monday, Dec. 29, the marathons continue.

Nick Jr. until 12:30p.m., SBSP until 3 p.m. SaC/THH until 4 p.m., then TTM until 8 p.m. I'm all for diversity, just not sure single day marathons will work best to draw viewers. Especially for Nicks lower rated shows. Still glad they are trying and I am interested to see what the rest of the week will look like.

This schedule is obviously gonna test Nicks ratings. Can The rest of the shows hold it down since SBSP won't air during its peak late afternoon-early evening hours. SBSP will still get eight episodes though.

I'm sure this is just Nicks schedule while kids are on winter break, but this is STILL a huge move by Nick and I wonder if it'll be something they switch out of immediately if ratings drop. Pretty cool though to see all the other shows get som much deserved limelight. My guess is it reverts back to the normal schedule once the first weekend of premieres happen jan. 4.

Considering PPG was one of CN's huge hits (along with Dexter's Lab, EEnE, Foster's, Chowder, Flapjack and Johnny Bravo) and still quite frankly being used as a household name nowadays, I expecting big numbers for that special. I really hope that Sam & Cat special could get a SBSP premiere lead-in or maybe do a marathon of SaC (its reruns are doing very well right now so why not) or something similar. And yes, I 100% believe that Disney is going to do head to head with CN and Nick that day. Oh boy...

Cloud 9 premieres Friday January 17th, so I expect Disney Channel to schedule an encore against Nick and CN that day.

Thats exactly what's gonna happen. And yeah, the 20th is gonna be a super competitive night. The SaC special hasn't been confirmed yet on Nick, just in a magazine. So things could change, but knowing Nick they'll be gunning for that. I'm assuming the start time for SaC is 7 p.m. since that seems to be the norm for their Monday night holiday premieres. Not sure why CN would air after SaC...

As of tomorrow nick.com/tvschedules page at 7:30PM listed Sam & Cat instead of Haunted Hathaways. Zap2listings and tvguide and toonzone schedule hasn't update as this is.

I wish Imgur wasn't allowed on this forum until the time is right for a return since it's been unavailable in the UK since last September, so I don't see why people use links from the site for here when it's no longer available in the UK and I'm really angry that their parent company made this stupid decision.
Happy 45th anniversary, MTV.
MeTV Toons is a great channel when it comes to classic cartoons, but we know it can be way better. The Duck4Real (me!) elaborates on this in his latest YouTube vlog. Watch it!
