The poster is intriguing, but from the second half of the film's synopsis I have the strange feeling the colorful aliens might be the Minions of this movie. I might be wrong.

Sounds interesting. At least it’s an original movie this time.

Sci-Fi romcom with Timothee Chalamet and Selena Gomez? Sure, why not ;)?

I'm weary of any Illumination movie. But I can give it the benefit of the doubt until the trailer.

The first teaser has dropped ahead of Minions and Monsters's release tomorrow:

I have to admit, I appreciate how tonally different this preview feels for an Illumination movie. (No real silly hijinks until the last few moments.) That said, Chalamet's voice coming out of that character design just feels mismatched to me.

From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com:

"Illumination Releases Teaser For Not Alone"

"Most of Illumination’s movies tend to run along a certain theme. They’re the opposite of Sony Pictures Animation visually; all their character models look the same. They’re the opposite of Pixar in that they’ll never try to make you cry or say something meaningful; they make fluff. They’re the opposite of Dreamworks in that they aren’t chasing awards with stuff like The Wild Robot in addition to the Shrek films that keep the lights on. In short, Illumination doesn’t really take chances. Everyone knows this by now.

So that’s why we greeted the teaser for their next film Not Alone, or at least most of it, with some confusion. What’s depicted is a drama about a lonely astronaut who’s developing an attraction to his co-worker. We see him glance at her, and she glances back, but he has no idea if she shares his feelings. Finally, he takes the leap and asks her out….Is this their big departure? Is Illumination finally going to break their own mold and take a real risk?"

If I had a nickel for every CG animated film that would advertise itself with "Ground Control to Major Tom" I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's funny it happened twice :p.

In all seriousness though, it looks cute! I love how they made it look so serious and dramatic before the colorful British aliens show up ;)!

I was about to give them so much credit. It seemed like a very grounded, medium paced movie. Very beautiful. And doesnt rely on- oh, there are the silly characters.

From what I'm seeing, I could give this a chance. I'll see when the full trailer comes out. But closer than I have ever come to being interested in Illumination.

I actually really like it. It feels different for a movie that has to do with aliens. Not sure why that is. After Secret Life of Pets, Migration, and the Super Mario Bros. movies, I'd more keen on Illumination trying anything other than Minions or Despicable Me because they're clearly talented to do movies beyond Minions.

Also am I the only one who thinks the aliens look like those Gusher commercials from the 2010s?

I have a sneaking suspicion that this was originally meant for Moonlight, Illumination's ill-fated adult label. The one that got quietly shuttered before it could even announce a single movie.

Like it started out as the more serious movie that the first 3/4's of the trailer led you to believe it would be. Then when Moonlight got scrapped, it got absorbed by the Illumination mothership, and in went the cute Happy Meal Toys and kids movie cliches.

That's the only way I can make sense of the whiplash of the trailer.

I can see that. From the trailer, it looks like two different movies put together. Maybe this was a the story idea the whole time. But the happy meal chars do come out of nowhere.

I was wondering how many writers it had, but IMDB doesnt have that info yet.

As someone who's Portuguese, it just bugs me again that we lost. I wanted Portugal to win this time because this is Ronaldo's last, but no, we think Ronaldo has devolved significantly, and we lost against Spain.
Fowler's Sonic the Hedgehog > Bay's  Transformers. There, I said it.
