Superman cartoon from Ruby Spears

In the 80's there was a Superman cartoon that came on CBS. Why did CN and Boomerang did not show it.

This was one of the greatest Superman series. I remember watching it years ago on CBS when I was a kid.

Decent series, though, some of the voice acting was terrible. Lex Luthor ticked me off and the Tessmacher(sp?) ripoff was worse. It was the guy who did Duke from GI Joe.

Wonder Woman was in one show and Gotham Cities basketball team is in another(I can't remember if it is only mentioned or if they are actually in it).

Luthor's ditsy girl was named Miss Morganberry. Tessmacher was the gal from the Christopher Reeve movies.

Just wanted to resurrect this old thread because I was watching some of my old tapes of this series last night.

I didn't think it was too bad... the animation was great in some parts, and anything that uses the John Williams Superman score gets a thumbs up. I especially liked the opening title sequence; very stylish.

Superman series...

I remember seeing that series when it was on and even taped most of the episodes. I liked it real well and it was a good reflection of the Superman movies and 1980's comic series. I would like it to be put on DVD . it only lasted one season and should be out for newer fans and (us older ones) to see. in some ways it was better than the Bruce Timm series , it showcased a different take on superman and the cast like lois,jimmy, perry white,ect.. his powers were on target and his look as well. I liked the wonder woman guest star episode and would of liked to see a Justice League made in the same mode. I don't think the show should disappear forever and should join the 1940's cartoons and the 1960's series along side the great 1990's Timm superman series.

I remember this series as well. Now, I can't be sure, but I think it might've been in continuity with the Super Power series that was around at the time.

Y'know, it's funny, because I can vaguely remember this series, and until I saw this thread, I thought I was crazy and that it never existed. The reason for my lapse in memory is because I wasn't even in kndergarten at the time. I remember it looking like Superfriends, except the writing was alot better, almost Bruce Timm material. But the only scenes I remember is this one where it showed Clark as a boy back in Smallville with Ma and Pa Kent at the circus, and another episode with Lex and a secret underwater base. But I don't remember how annoying Lex voice was. So.....how annoying was it?

I'm glad that I taped all 13 episodes when it was on the air. I enjoyed the series, it was the first Post-Crisis media representation of a DC character. It wasn't in the same continuity as Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians but the character designs for both shows were based on Jose Garcia Lopez's DC character templates for outside media representations. Gil Kane did the character designs for this series and Marv Wolfman was the story editor. The stories and look of the show were reminscent of the Action Comics run the two had in the early eighties.

One thing I remembered most about this series was it's potrayal of Clark Kent and It's my favorite potrayal of Clark Kent, very much like the Richard Donner movies. It's amazing how Superman pretends to be a wimp in his Kent guise and later on becomes a huge hero

The theme was also my favorite and I also noticed Lex's anoying voice and his equally anoying secretary. You can tell that this series represents the Superman Movies a lot.

The "Superman's Family album" segment is quite cute but sometimes overdone. Wouldn't it be cool if Batman or any of the other DC heros had guest spots like how Wonder woman did?
