I found at this other site an old old old Flinstones cig comercial. Imagine the uproar that this kind of advertising would cause in today's world?

I downloaded that many moons ago. Barney holding a Winston between his fingers was my avatar for a while after that! I've even managed to stick that in as a little bonus on a DVD I burned for somebody!

Yeah, I've seen that clip at the Toon Tracker website. I was surprised that they were allowed to have cartoon characters advertise things like that. It's no wonder they switched to Welch's grape juice in later years.

Winstons and Flintstones

Would there have ever been a version of that in color? It would stand to reason, given that the series was filmed in color, but I would think it's long been lost.

was it in color on the laserdisc? Or is this a case where H-B tried to destroy the evidence so only a black & white 16mm exists?

I believe it was in color as I have a DVD of strictly animated commercials from the late 50's and 60's featuring the Hanna Barbera, Warner, UPA and Jay Ward characters, etc and I'm pretty sure there were a number of variants of those Flinstones' endorsed Winston commercials that can be seen in color on my set. I'd have to verify though, but I'm almost certain.

That was me. It really was a very fascinating commerical, I highly doubt it would be shown today outside the confines of historical context.

I still can't get that jingle Fred sings out of my head - "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should!"
