The Official Marvel Animation DVD Thread, Part 2

[Spider-Man]

As much as I like the 1960's version, the price tag may determine how fast I pick up this DVD set. I really hope that Disney doesn't charge too much for it. I really want to see how indepth the features will be on it. I am aching for some cover art, too.

I bet they will put five episodes on the next DVD. Is that how many episodes are left in the second season after the June DVD release?

Thanks Doc, so aside from the Fox X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons most these could be done one release, right? Was there any continuity between the 1981 Spider-Man show and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends?

The glimpses of Spidey in solo action (in flashback) in "The Origin Of Iceman" & "Origin Of The Spider-Friends" do seem consistent with the solo show, so it may very well have been the intention of the writers for the shows to be connected.

There is no doubt in my mind that Don Glut, writer of "The Origin Of Iceman" & "Origin Of The Spider-Friends," intended to make the shows fit together because he was a strict continuity buff and saw no reason to change things. Dennis Marks, another writer (and producer), could have cared less about continuity. All he wanted to do was make an enjoyable 24 minute cartoon. So, there is no solid answer here, but I certainly want them to fit together. Heck, Peter was wearing the same clothes in both shows. The only true continuity flaw I can think of is that it is stated in SMAHAF that Norman Osborn "transforms" into the Green Goblin. In the opening, on a closeup of his eye, his skin is shown turning green. In an attempt to get a "Marvel no-prize", I simply think this symbolic of his mental "transformation" into the Goblin. Good, eh?

Another question: Are there any continuity problems between the 60s show and the 80s solo show? The 80s solo show was made to be packaged in syndication with the 60s show so it is very likely that they have continuity.

That price isn't too bad. I'm sure it will be dropped a bit lower than that when it finally hit shelves. I'm more interested in getting the 1990's series collected than this one, though. I just wish Disney would put this type of thinking towards the Fox version.

Yes there five more episodes left after the June DVD release of Enemies Unveiled. The episodes are Shadow Dance, Retreat, Hex Factor, and Day of Reckoning I and II. So I would definately assume they'd put all those episodes on one DVD. That will be a happy day because Day of Reckoning part II is one of my favorite episodes. I guess I'll just have to watch the episode I taped off of Cartoon Network utill it comes out on DVD I'm guessin' somewhere in September.

Me too. With Batman, Superman and even the Superfriends getting boxsets, I think it's about time Spider-Man got some of the love. The 3 discs so far have sold well and, Spider-Man: The Animated Series is arguably the one cartoon you need to have seen the previous/following episode for in order to fully understand the story. Crappy animation aside, it's a very underatted show. Hopefully we'll get the box sets soon, the more the 60's set sells, the higher chance we'll have I'd say.

I bet the original Spider-Man series is going to test the waters for bigger sets. What bugs me is that Disney did release a box set of Fox Spider-Man cartoons. The catch was they were DVDs that were already released, just packaged in a cardboard slipcase. How about a real box set?

Here in region 2, we got a box featuring the Ultimate Villian Showdown, The Incredible Hulk and The Legend Of Wolverine, nothing new to them, just a fancy new case. Very annoying.

I picked up the other X-Men DVD too, there was nothing brilliant about it, aside from some of the episodes. I wish they'd try a little harder, superhero (paticullary Spider-Man, Hulks chances have more or less withered now) popularity is currently in its peak, if they are going to do it, now is the perfect time.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered a billion times but since this is the best X-Men: Evo board, this would be a quick easy question. Season 2 was 17 episodes, right? How many eps were in Season 3 and 4? How would those translate to DVD?

Season One = 13 episodes (All released)
Season Two = 17 episodes (8 episodes released)
Season Three = 13 episodes (none released)
Season Four = 9 episodes (none released)

I really hope they go with 6 episodes a disc. That gives us 31 episodes left on DVD. That's 6 discs with 5 episodes on them and one with 7, which is highly unlikely. So, I'd expect another 6 or 7 discs yet, to spread over 2 years, probably ending when X-Men 3 comes out.

And, as this is WB, we may even get an X-Men: Evolution DTV/DVD feature around then.

 

[Spider-Man]

The "superhero craze" still has more than a few years left. If it there was any peek, it was with 2002's Spider-Man. I think we'll see more DVDs soon. Disney is probably trying to figure the best method to release them.

To get back on topic, I'm itching for Disney to just release the box art for this set already. I want to see how they use the design for the art.

I doubt they will do six episodes to each disc. They'll do whatever number will give them a clear season without going over any season finale/season premieres.

Not at all what I was expecting. The Green Goblin one looks a little dodgy, paticullary his arm, but I kinda like it.

Makes me more anxious to see the real packaging

I really like the idea of having a different character on each disc. The ones with Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson, and the Green Goblin look especially good. I am a bit surprised, however, to see that they don't use the Spider-Man logo on any of the discs, and instead have "The 67 Collection" on them.

 

[Spider-Friends]

I think they look good, not great, just good. I am THRILLED that they are trying to make it look like the cartoon. Keep in mind that they didn't have to do that. (They could have stuck modern Spider-Man art on them which would really stink.) The drawings look so bad though that I'd be willing to bet that each character is actually a screen shot taken from an episode. If you've ever taken a screenshot of a Saturday morning cartoon then you know just how badly drawn each frame is.

When do the Marvel Superheroes will be releasing it on DVD

Does one remember The Marvel Superheroes Cartoon Show back in the 60's when they have The Merry Marvel Marching Society and they have The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Sub Mariner, The Mighty Thor and Captain America are all of the cartoon segments in all the episodes of The Marvel Superheroes Cartoon Show back in the 60's but when do Buena Vista Home Enterainment will released The Marvel Superheroes Boxset back on DVD in the following years to come because I want to get that boxset on DVD so when do they release it!
