The Toonami Thread

Yeah, it's positive.

If it was negative, they'd just stop talking about it.

Well, my line of thinking is that if they didn't have some level of intention of returning it, they wouldn't have ever asked in the first place. So the fact that they responded positively and said "Stay tuned" at the very end makes me very optimistic.

Ok, now I'm excited. Stay tuned? STAY TUNED?!?!

This better be real. They've toyed with my emotions enough already.

Oh man, we're gonna get it back. I just know it. I can feel it, don't tell me otherwise!

It just got real, kids. It just got REALLY real.

Certainly feels like it's a matter of when rather than if, but I hope they take the time to really do it right. This could reboot anime and action on the block. It could be a lovely combination of remastered nostalgia bombs in nostalgic packaging (maybe a few visual tweaks to amp it up a hair further,) plus new acquisitions that underline and enhance the Toonami [as] philosophy, plus all of the best gems from [as] action. You could have perfect blocks of GitS:SAC, FLCL, FMA, remastered Cowboy Bebop, remastered Tenchi and remastered Outlaw Star. Hell, Funi obviously sent the high-def tapes of Yu Yu Hakusho. Run the whole show uncut this time. Buy/trade ads for shows that fit that kind of block.

It could also ensure Bandai is proactive about cutting deals with the remaining US publishers to not only keep their gems in print, but to do so with hi-def releases when ever possible. FUNi or RightStuf might be on the bubble about picking some of those shows up, let alone putting the effort into fresh authoring for a hi-def version, but if they did that along side a broadcast push, they might be much more aggressive about those pick ups and releases.

If they take just a bit of time with it (assuming they haven't already,) they could get tons of 18-34 male locked on CN from 12-6 every Saturday-night/Sunday-morning. Lock the demographic that doesn't go out and party at that time down.

My best advice: watch AS on Saturday night. That is huge news. If we weren't getting it back, they would have said "Thanks for the support, but a return is not in the cards at the moment." :tom:

I really wanna see Zatch Bell In it just for re-run matter (if they can)... And any show on there would make watch it anytime. :)

What DO We DO Know?

ASToonamiupdate.jpg

Well Just because they've heard us does not mean for sure that Toonami:tom:. Is coming back and even if it is coming back how do we know it won't be a long time before we see anything. For all we know it could come back at the end of the year. However if it comes back at the end of the year what if people forget and stop caring. Then Toonami will die a second time we just can't let that Happen. We have to make sure that if they bring back toonami it is permanent.[h=3]

Missed the thread the last few days, so I missed all the whole #BringBackToonami movement until I saw the latest tweet come across my feed just now.

Glad I "called it" at least on some level. But it comes down to what Paradox295 has been saying in this thread. It would have been easy to just find random Toonami bumpers and put it around the existing anime. It would have been easy to run Toonami bumpers sandwiched between an all-night Family Guy marathon. There are a million ways they could have done this lazily or turned it into an obvious joke.

But they got too many small things right. The new bumps/opens/voiceovers have been mentioned, of course. But the show selection was intelligent - a mix of Toonami's Greatest Hits with more obscure stuff and stuff that never ran on Toonami but could have. The animation/graphics they chose - the 2004-07 version - were the perfect ones. It's obvious this was done with a lot of thought and attention to detail. We didn't get an imitation or a recreation - we got the genuine article. Jokes just aren't this elaborate.

Regardless of what led to this joke or test, I don't think Adult Swim expected this kind of response. I don't think anyone did. I mean, think about it. This is a block of mostly old shows thrown on with literally zero promotion. At midnight. On a Saturday. And the response has been so huge, so enthusiastic, that four days later a revived Toonami isn't just possible, it's likely. Four days. That's incredible. And it shows that the demand for Toonami isn't just amongst the hardcore.

As for what form it should take, I'm with Karl here. Midnight to 6 on Saturdays, mix the existing premieres with Toonami classics, and go from there. If the ratings are strong enough to warrant expanding beyond that, Running it during Cartoon Network hours is out of the question. Their target audience is narrower, their programming strategy is different than it was in 2000. That's what led to its cancellation in the first place - they wanted to go younger and Toonami kept skewing older. That's why we had the TOM 4 redesign. I only saw bits and pieces of that, but I dove into TDA to see what it looked like and, well, yikes. All the things that made Toonami, well, Toonami were gone. And judging from what I've heard/read about that period, cancellation was more of a mercy killing at that point.

Toonami is now an Adult Swim property. I think that's a good thing.

It's been 3 YEARS since it was canceled. If people were going to stop caring, they would have done so by now.

Honestly, I just think they chose those specific shows...not only because they ARE the greatest hits(Where's my Kenshin??), but also because they wanted to play that "Dreams AMV". Not sure if anyone noticed that, but the Dreams AMV holds all the classic toonami anime aired during that night. They needs the (temporary?) rights to air those shows again. Which is probably why they didn't use any other AMV.:tom::D

True words bro. True words.

This is just so EPIC. I mean...just think about it. Every, and I mean EVERY single youtube Toonami rant, can NO LONGER BE RIDICULED. Every single youtube vid. All of them. Every kid and every dude/girl in their 20s/30s that voiced their views. No one can talk smack anymore. "Get over it. Toonami's dead. Move on." Remember those words constantly shoved in your face? And that? Is freakin awesome.

Really, last week said "Next week on Toonami." It could be as soon as this week.

Not if they don't change the line-up they have.

They could very plausibly make bumps for the entire night in a week or less.

But it's a more reasonable expectation that we'll get some kind of promotion for the return of Toonami this Saturday if they have already decided to do so. Maybe they'll even run Bleach with Toonami bumps as a tease.

Well here's the thing. Toonami did that all the time in 2004-07 before they started prepping for the TOM 4 look. The TOM 3 bumps are comparatively easy and cheap to make compared to TOM 4. Even with Adult Swim's budget they might be able to do it. By carefully inserting new footage with reused footage they could have a decent-looking TOM 3 presentation right away while they work on something more permanent.

I would not be surprised if we get promotion for a return this Saturday or if Bleach becomes a half-hour Toonami by itself to serve as promotion. It looks quite likely that this will happen.

Nothing is impossible from here. Really, that one stunt has single-handedly made the Internet excited about Adult Swim, excited about Saturday night, and excited about anime and action cartoons. Adult Swim would be daft to not take advantage of it. And Williams Street is smart and talented enough that, without anything holding them back, they could make something really, really good.

At the very least --- a whole bunch of people are going to be tuning in this weekend to see what happens.

Toonami Returns April 21?

There is a rumor going around That Adult Swim. Plans on bringing :tom: back as early as April 21st. I sure hope that rumor is true. I mean sure it would not be this week but that means well probably have an ad for it this week. Which logically with all the huge response that the tweet and everything lately as gotten is not that much of a surprise.

NeoToonami A Potential Threat To Toonami's Revival?

Source please
Unfortunately There is no source. But if you check on the adult swim boards you see that there going to say something toonami related this saturday.

However I have know just moments ago found out that we toonami fans could be facing a serious problem. That problem is that a huge fan base created their own toonami called neotoonami and well they don't tend on ending it just because toonami could be coming back. I fear that if adult swim finds out not only will we have a major problem but toonami revival could end up dead.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
