This is the talkback thread for "Flushed Away" Aardman Featurette Online.

Y'know, the action sequences (and the characters) in this remind me of two things, both good: The Great Mouse Detective, and Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers. Here's hoping it shapes up nicely.

I'm actually quite suprised at how closely they were able to emulate the look of claymation in CG. Although now that we've reached this point, I doubt we'll see much more stop-motion in the future. Aardman has a few more projects coming up, but I can see them switching completely over to CG before long, just because claymation is so labour-intensive.

The film itself looks pretty fun, if not terribly original. It's also foreshadowing a brand new "Dreamworks ripped off Pixar/Pixar ripped off Dreamworks" debacle, when Pixar's Ratatouille comes out in a couple of years.

I shudder to think of the legions of furry 'shippers who will clutch onto the main "couple" of this film, though...

Some interesting thougths from Toonhound.com:

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] And it also might take a while to accept that hollywood oviceover on the prievew, proudly announcing this next DeamWorks production, with ne'er
an Aardman reference in sight. There's even a big fat DreamWorks tag on
the film's logo!

Hmm. Let's hope Aardman keeps its individuality.

Re: the "Pixar ripoff" debate. That's been haunting the IMDB boards for some time (with people yelling stuff like "this'll be exactly the same as Madagascar"), but now the pictures have surfaced people have been posting stuff like this:

First, Dreamworks ripped off Pixar's movies. Now, since there hasn't been a Pixar film in a while, they're ripping off Wallace and Gromit!!!!

The art-style is exactly like the claymation used for Wallace and Gromit. Look at the eyes and noses. And they also all have British accents!!!!!

Must Dreamworks always copy the ideas and art-styles of others?

Well, some people are just morons.

Do my eyes decieve me or were they actually using 3D Studio Max?

That came as a big surprise as the industry standard is usually Maya.

I don't know--- I thought the work windows they showed were Maya, but I wasn't really paying attention.

Animation and characters look great in this! I was really surprised when I saw the featurette and I'm excited to see this when it comes out.

...and I think the design is supposed to look like Wallace and Gromit.

I watched the featurette/trailer for it on the W&G DVD, and I've got to say it definitely seems to be in keeping with previous Aardman productions. I'll even say that the CG that Dreamworks is doing for them is very plasticine-like in it's texture and fairly stop-motion like in it's movement. Should be an interesting picture.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
