Well I will say a couple things: 1) at least Casshern continues Adult Swim's pattern of picking up semi-obscure titles that nobody here predicted. 2) I'm VERY suprised that Ghost in the Shell is taking up that 3rd blank slot instead of Outlaw Star or something. Maybe they couldn't cut a deal with Bandai in time? Who knows. I just feel like ratings might have a better chance with at least one "classic" on the block that isn't just "well we still have these left over from ASA that have already been rerun into the ground [here's looking at you, GitS and Bebop]. Honsetly they should have let FLCL run its final episode of the current run if they were just going to air GitS.
That being said, I watched a FUNi trailer for Casshern and it seems potentially interesting and whatot but I couldn't really tell much from it. I've heard good things about Deadman Wonderland and watched the opening which seems pretty cool but I don' know much about it, might have to look more into it.
Rats. Tho I suppose it was a bit weird for them to have been planning to make new co-productions before even seeing if the block could get on its feet.

Not exatcly the line up I was expecting (what no Gundam) but i guess it will do for now. Sad about Cullen and Sarah not coming back. Hopefully they can comeback when they get a bigger budget.
i asked Damrco if they were using old tom 3 bumps and intro he said no he also think thoose to shows are going to be a big hit .. they both look pretty epic IMO im more exited for cassherns sins i think its called it looks amazing

Well, I think the point is that if you want more shows and more expansion, people have to watch each and every Saturday. Word of mouth is important. Promos will certainly help, but much like how Toonami was brought back by fans demanding it, fans have to watch when it officially comes back Saturday. Already, I've seen some fans disappointed because the Toonami lineups of 2000-04 won't be replicated on Saturday.
Also, the idea of bringing back Toonami on April Fools Day was Mike Lazzo. Jason DeMarco confirmed it. So, it wasn't a rouge operation among some WS employees, Lighthammer.

I've heard a bit about Deadman Wonderland. It might be a bit too dark for my tastes, but I might give it a shot since most of the comments I've heard about it are mostly positive. I haven't heard of this Casshern Sins series, but the little bit I've read about it made it sound pretty interesting, so I'll check that series out.
It's understandable that the ratings would play such a huge role in the future of the block, but they might be expecting too much for the ratings. Though, hopefully the online demand will lead to satisfying ratings for the higher ups.
if GITS and Cowboy Bebop finished their runs, that would open up space on August 4 and 18, respectfully. Actually, Deadman Wonderland would finish the same week as Bebop, since it's 12 episodes long (unless they air the OVA episode). Casshern would end in November, and Fullmetal at the beginning of 2013
Yep. I'm hoping that we'll get new shows to replace them one they end their current runs, at least in the case of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which have been run to death for the last few years. I have the same hope when Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood when it is over (which will be in December, actually). Casshern Sins and Deadman Wonderland can repeat until their licenses expire, which will probably be around this time next year.
Basically, I'm hoping Toonami to have a fresh lineup and not wallow in reruns like [adult swim] action does for, like, half a year nowadays.
Yeah, the buy two, get one free deal is hypothetical and a rumor. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Deadman was offered up as the lead show in a package deal, and Adult Swim picked Casshern to be the 2nd show in Deadman's package. Casshern has a really retro appearance that probably appeals to Mike Lazzo a lot.
Oops. I didn't know that was jsut a rumor. My bad. But your hypothesis actually seems what likely happened. Either way, at least we finally have some fresh blood on the lineup to cover up Bleach's filler stained behind.
I'm kinda shocked that they would have GITS and Bebop wrap up their current runs and not Kekkaishi or DRRR!! But yeah Bebop's half-over and GITS has only ten episodes left. Running them both buys Adult Swim and its partners more time to get more shows together. And Deadman is a short series and it'll be replaced.
[adult swim]'s rights to Kekkaishi and Durarara likely have expired. Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, on the other hand, are shows that they have had for a long, long time, and I honestly never see them giving up their rights to air them. But yes, they certainly are finishing off their runs to buy time to make more acquisitions, or at the very least, come up with a good strategy to keep the lineup fresh for the longterm.
But they want double the anime ratings with Toonami? That could be problemic....

These ratings are unimpressive, yes, but still, asking double of this would be asking for waaaay too much. I think (and hope) the most feasible goal they should aim for is to have the entire lineup cross the one million viewers line consistently. But two million viewers for Bleach? Not gonna happen.
Nice to see some brand new stuff, along with something older get some much more significant exposure. If they get Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt as well, FUNimation will really be loving this. I didn't like Deadman Wonderland, but if they stream it (since I don't have cable), I'll watch it, and I'll probably pick up Casshern Sins if I decide I like it (assuming I get to see some of it at some point). I would have much rather have seen something like Steins;Gate instead, but at least it's something new.
I absolutely LOVED Casshern Sins and I can't wait for people to start discovering this anime, it unfortunately flew underneath the radar when it was released......as many anime's do these days. I've never seen Deadman's Wonderland, but I've heard really good things about it and I look forward to discovering this show via Toonami, it will be a great chance to get to know it and see Casshern Sins once again (this time on TV instead of DVD).
Its possible (perhaps highly likely) that these shows were in the pipe even before Toonami got resurrected and Jason's having to allocate his limited budget to the new Tom. Hence its just Der Blummer for now. Although if you think about it the lack of Sara and Peter Cullen is actually awfully reminiscent of the Moltar and very early Tom 1 era when they did all the talking. Maybe as a result we'll get some new "motivational chats" for the first time in a decade.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
