While I don't like ALL the Naruto filler I did enjoy a big chunk of it. Is it just me?

I thought that most of the filler in Naruto was pretty good (especially the Land of Tea filler arc).
In my opinion, the filler in the series didn't become bad until Shippuden.

That's a better response to the Eureka Seven question than "we lost the rights."

I think that mostly applies to the FUNimation titles. They probably have different contracts with Viz Media, Aniplex USA, and Bandai Entertainment.

Out of those 80-odd Naruto filler episodes . . .

Only three of them even semi-matter in regards to Shippuden.

The first arc, which sets Sakura on her path to becoming Tsunade's apprentice.

The Sea arc in the middle greatly fleshes out Anko Mitarashi and kills off a couple of canon characters forgotten about in the canon.

And then there's the very last arc which fleshes out Gaara to a degree and ends with Jiraiya finally taking Naruto on the two-year journey.

We're not missing much if we skip them. And considering we're talking a year and a half of filler running one-a-week, I would not be shocked if the Toonami crew is seriously considering skipping them.

I've actually enjoyed the Shippuden filler for the most part. The Shippuden filler, instead of doing random arcs with random characters, mostly go into adaptation expansion. One particularly impressive feat was taking an event that took all of ten pages in the manga and transforming it into a 20-episode arc that actually fits into the canon pretty well.

As for Shippuden period, the rights should run out this October and it'll be fair game for AS to pick up then. Whether they will is another story. I don't see them affording both Bleach and Shippuden. If they do run Shippuden they'll probably wait until Bleach is over.

October, huh? I hope no one else picks up the rights to Shippuden before AS. Perhaps Naruto did poorly enough on XD that Nicktoons wouldn't want to touch it.... Perhaps the fact the original Naruto is airing on an adult-oriented channel will (alone) be the factor that at least keeps the kid's networks from picking Shippuden up.

Also, about the Toonami expansion... I am really happy that we're getting so many exciting new shows airing at such late hours. Finally there's a reason to watch TV at 3 in the morning! Now all we need is for Adult Swim to stream online like Cartoon Network does... Then I can watch my favorite late night gaming stream along side Toonami. :>

Yeah, beyond CB where they will ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO AIR, Bandai titles, like the Geneon and ADV ones before them are totally up in the air until funimation or sentai or (unlikely) Viz try to save a couple. E7 is a good bet to be saved at some point, but it could take a while. Look at how long it took for fan favorites like FLCL and Serial Experiments Lain to be relicensed.

I think he meant a live stream of the [as] shows as they air. I think that's what CN's live stream is for (I wouldn't know because it requires a cable TV account, which I know I have, but can't access).

CN's live stream cuts off when Adult Swim starts and just loops the sign-off message until CN starts back up; though sometimes a couple seconds do slip through.

I wonder though. AS does not have the rights to stream certain shows online (shows like IGPX). Can rights issues like that get in the way of AS streaming their network online?

That may be the very reason why they are not streaming the TV broadcast online at the moment.

- They won't be skipping any filler arcs.
Not a problem with me. Says a guy who didn't mind all the filler in Naruto.

- Sword Art Online is premiering at 2 AM because the first two hours of the block are stable and therefore bring in better ratings. However, if Sword Art Online does really well, it can be moved up.
The only show I can see them moving down to 2am is Soul Eater, but I like things as they will be then.

- Apparently, Aniplex USA made an offer that they "couldn't refuse" for Sword Art Online.
I hope it was free waffles for life.

- Whatever show starts off the block will have its full opening aired.
I think it'd be neat for them to do a 10-second intro for Bleach.

- The Toonami crew still is working for free.

- Thundercats is expiring because it was created with partners at Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network doesn't own the rights to the characters.
Makes sense. Didn't realize before, so, yeah.

- Adult Swim helped fund both seasons of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, but did not "produce" the show. (This explains why they have perpetual rights to it.)
I always thought it was producing it. Maybe that was Big O Season 2, then.

Or maybe it's because they didn't want to wait 8 months for Soul Eater to end to air SAO. Where else would you suggest they air it? The top 2 hours are locked up tight. In fact, 2am is the earliest they could possibly air it in the next 8 months, implying that they DO like it. If they suddenly had a change of heart, they would have buried it at 3am like Tenchi. You need to accept that people like this show.

Anyway, since they keep making a point of saying they can't get Shippuden "at this time", I also wonder if they're just waiting for Bleach to end before they go after it. Assuming no hiatuses, they've got about 14 months before that happens, at which point Shippuden would have already been available. Since they would likely want something with a big name to replace their top show, and since Naruto has done well to this point, it seems like a logical transition. I can't imagine Disney or Nick will put up much of a fight for it. Furthermore, if they wanted to they could even air it alongside Naruto as the lead hour, and there's certainly precedence for airing a Prequel and Sequel show back to back (how often was DB/DBZ/DBGT on the same schedule).

Another strategy would be to wait until Naruto reaches episode 135 (about 10 months after the end of Bleach, again assuming no breaks), during which time they could I guess show Bleach reruns (or maybe double up Naruto at the top of the hour and reach it in only 5 months after Bleach ends), and then replace it with Shippuden. This would make those of us who don't want to wait through filler again happy, and would make Viz happy too since they wouldn't be skipping the filler outright. Also that way, there wouldn't be any story disconnect for casual audiences (TOM could explain that Shippuden picks up after 135), and they can view the fillers and just the random episodes they are. They'd still have about another year and a half to figure out what replaces old Naruto.
