"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

So April 1st falls on a Saturday again in...2017

Be cool if [as] did something with Toonami again anyway regardless of the day. *shrug*

What are the chances of DBZ, One piece and Toriko making it back to Toonami

DBZ: The broadcast rights are currently owned by competition (Nick) and is also out of Toonami's price range for the time being. The only way I can see DBZ coming back to Toonami is if they get the money to buy it back, and the only way to get the money is with ratings. But just because they could eventually afford it does not instantly mean they'll put it back on there.

One Piece: Jason DeMarco has stated that he's a huge fan of One Piece and would love to see it back on Toonami. No one currently owns the broadcast rights to this (if I'm not mistaken), so I could see this possibly going on Toonami once the starts align just right.

Not sure about Toriko, I think I'll need a second opinion on that one.

Toriko seems a bit kiddy. I know the manga had blood but they cut that from the show.
It could probably air on Nicktoons uncut.

This is not true. There's still blood in the anime. It's too violent to air on Nicktoons uncut.

Well, the anime is quite a succes in Japan, and the manga is a huge succes there. he way I see it, Toriko should be introduced to American Television at some point, whether it will be on Toonami or not, though I can't see it happening soon. It's chances are still better than Dragon Ball Z, so to rank the three above in order of chance of appearing;

One Piece > Toriko > Dragon Ball Z

Where exactly has there been blood in the anime? I stopped watching after episode 20 or so but it was pretty heavily censored then and images I;ve seen haven't shown that changing much.

It is pretty heavily censored, but they're still blood a few times.

Furthermore though most of it has also been censored, there's smoking and drinking in the anime as well, and they'd have to remove most of it for it to air on Nicktoons.

I like to have Dragon Ball Z , One Piece back to Toonami. That will be really cool!

Dragon Ball is owned by competition (Nicktoons) plus it aired way too much on Toonami anyway. It doesn't need to return.

One Piece I'm not too much sure about, but I don't wanna see it on Toonami.

Well hopefully Toonami will be able to get constant ratings for a while and be able to do more cool stuff. I've been impressed so far with all the work that's gone in it and I'm lovin that new music video they put together,

I do wish they could air some of the DC animated Batman movies that have come out over the past few years. Could be some great promotion for The Dark Knight Rises. Probably too short notice though.

Care to say why you don't want to see One Piece on Toonami?

Dragon Ball and the original DBZ are still free agents Nicktoons only has the cable rights to Kai and DBGT so far.

One Piece wouldn't work in the current format because it would take at least 5 years to finish. Maybe when they decide to put it on for the full week it could happen.

To me I don't want any of the old Toonami shows back on. Instead of running on nostalgia, get new shows. I know DeMarco has said he wants to bring Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star on the lineup. I'd be fine with Outlaw Star coming back.

Frankly I want to know where stuff like One Piece was when we were rerunning SD Gundam on weeknights for like the 10th time..

Being licensed by the evil clutches of 4Kids!!

I have yet to see any proof that Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z is owned by Nick, only assumptions.

As for the chances of getting them, they're not the most likely older series out there, but I could see them getting in. Dragon Ball Z I think has a 50/50 shot of getting in while Dragon Ball has less than that, but still a fair shot.

DBZ will likely never air on Adult Swim's Toonami, not unless Toonami winds up taking part of weekdays which I think will never happen no matter what ratings Toonami gets. I don't know why people keep bringing it up. It's too expensive and a poor choice for one night a week. DBZ Uncut hardly lasted a month on Toonami Saturdays, and it'll happen again on another go-around.

I actually have a theory about an old show returning . . .

Gundam Wing's price probably went up after the AFD airing, and like I said, I highly doubt the cash will be coughed up for DBZ. But Gundam Wing's less-heralded predecessor (or follower, depending if you're going by Japanese airing or Toonami airing), G Gundam, can probably be had for a cheap price. G Gundam is basically a Gundam show crossed with DBZ, and is every bit as Narm-y and "so bad it's good" as DBZ, right down to the dubbing. It's arguable that G Gundam is the best of both worlds (I personally had trouble getting into it during its Toonami run before Allenby showed up . . . what?) but I'm sure there would be people who would watch it just because it's so inherently ridiculous.

New Big Guy: "G Gundam Uncut, starts next Saturday at 2 AM. Only Toonami, on Adult Swim."

Domon: "With the help of KYOJIIIIIIIIIIIIII!"

*flash to [adult swim] bumper*

You can see it, can't you?

But seriously, I completely forgot about G Gundam and I agree that it would be a fantastic choice. :)

It lasted two months or so. They switched runs in January 2006 to the Saban dub, and that lasted about two months before they got rid of it...and then they brought it back in May with Garlic Junior reruns, which also lasted about two months.

Maybe if Jason DeMarco really wants it. I honestly expect newer titles than older ones. If they really want Gundam back, they could potentially show Gundam 00, since that had never aired on Toonami before.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
