"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Honestly for One Piece to air at a one night a week pace on Toonami, it would need to either start from Season 4 or air double premieres if starting back at episode 1. If going with the second route, they would risk giving up an additional timeslot that another show could use. The best way to air it honestly is having it air on a weeknight slot, but we know AS probably wouldn't want to do that.

"The best way" probably doesn't come into the picture. If they threw One Piece for 1 episode a week at 1AM or even 1:30, it's a start but preferably right after Bleach if they can't get more hours to work with.

This has become a "take what you can get" scenario for One Piece. Weekdays are out of the question right now and double airings are very unlikely. Especially for a test run which is about the only way I see them trying it. A small batch. Hopefully all of "season 1" but that's 53 episodes and I wouldn't expect a pick up of much more than 26 for a test run. Maybe they'd have the decency to avoid a major cliff-hanger.

My thoughts exactly. Some One Piece is better than no One Piece. Two epsiodes a week would probably be better but if Toonami can't swipe earlier hours, one episode would be alright.

Now I know we can't directly post fantasy/prediction schedules here but here a little something I whipped up at pastebin (since all the cool kids are doing it;)).

Twitter isn't working for me. Can someone please do me a favor?

Can someone send JDM this link and ask him whether or not FLCL is airing this week?

I tweeted him. Maybe he'll notice.

Actually I think GITS staying for now is actually a good sign. I think FLCL was put on the schedule just in case they couldn't get anything new for the next month and a half.

With Bebop and Deadman having at least 2 more epsiodes (I'm thinking Funimation may not have gave Toonami the OVA to increase DVD sales, but we'll soon see), they could easily replace both shows as well as GITS for a couple new shows on August 17th. Jason Demarco said they they were looking at 5-6 new shows to air "soonish" so I'm thinking that this is the route they may take.

We'll know for sure though whether GITS is staying for the long term this weekend if they replace the "2nd GIG" in the bumps.

no Jason said 5 or 6 new things not shows he said he can't say anything about the shows

They are airing Samurai 7 after Deadman finishes, apparently: http://www.adultswim.com/schedule/onair.html And it looks like they aren't repeating Deadman at the moment.

It looks like they aren't airing the OVA, which is too bad since I would be interested in seeing if that offers any more conclusion to the series. Even so, I'm glad that they aren't repeating Deadman Wonderland right now. I like it and all, but they really needed to replace it. I don't know if they've aired Samurai 7 on Adult Swim before. I'm pretty sure that they haven't, but either way, hopefully it will turn out well for the block and I'll be checking it out when it airs.

Samurai 7 will be new to Adult Swim/CN.

Awesome. That makes it better than if they were rerunning a series that they aired a few years ago. I've only heard a bit about Samurai 7 before, but I'll still check it out to see if I like it.

Samurai 7 is an...interesting pick. I would think that Funi would want DW replaced with another new show but maybe it'll happen when Sins finishes it's airing. S7 is a good show though so I;m fine with seeing it again.

Samurai 7? Sounds good to me. Haven't seen it. I'll look forward to it.

Didn't see Samurai 7 coming. Hopefully it's good and reception seems to point towards it.

But I'm kind of worried about ratings, given that it has been out for awhile and is on the Funimation channel.

Totally called the OVA not airing. :p Samurai 7 is definitely an interesting pick. It's got 26 episodes so I guess it's going to be here for a while. If it's anything like Champloo, I'm going to love it. While I wish they would have gotten something that hasn't been out on DVD yet, I'm glad were getting a new show so quickly after deadman.

Demarco said they were working on 5-6 things, so maybe that means adult swim will give Toonami all of Saturday night for more shows? Guess we'll have to wait and see. :)

It was probably cheaper to go with a show that has been out on DVD for awhile than another brand new show like Deadman Wonderland. It would have been nice, but I'm willing to give Samurai 7 a chance when it airs. It's still kind of disappointed that they aren't airing the OVA, but maybe Funimation wanted that for the DVD release to help boost sales.

That would be cool, but pretty unlikely at this point. Those five to six things weren't all necessarily new shows for the block and I can't really see Toonami getting all of Saturday night anytime soon. It would probably have to do extremely well in ratings for Adult Swim to even consider doing something like that.

I'm as surprised to see that as I was for Casshern Sins, but at least I think it's a better anime than either of the other new additions since Toonami came back. Still not great, though. It is better than just repeating Deadman Wonderland or something else that has aired on ASA.

Samurai 7's an oldie (like Newtype USA-old) but a goodie. Lookin forward to seeing it again.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
