I don't think it's a coincidence that Manga removed Gurren Lagann from all of the services they uploaded it to. While that alone does not indicate they don't have the TV rights anymore, not being listed on their website is a pretty good indication that they do not have the TV rights anymore.

I stand corrected then. My understanding of all the stuff they licensed for Ani-Monday was that Manga would own the digital/TV distribution rights to those properties either permanently, or for an extremely long time.

At this point, if Guardians of Luna is actually made, it will be a giant mess of a production that no one will want to see. Things in development hell that long just don't end well for anyone.

Toonami would have to wait and see first. See who Sunrise gives those shows to before they can pick anything up. If they go to FUNi or Viz, no problem. If they go to Aniplex, they'll have to pay a bit more, but they can hopefully snatch them up, assuming their relationship develops further. If they go to Sentai, they're pretty much screwed out of a deal. Sunrise is the deciding factor here; all we can do is hope and pray that they play their cards right.

Wait, why does a series going to Sentai mean instant doom for it being on Toonami? I mean, it's not like they're not trying to get an American broadcast for any of their shows, especially since Highschool of the Dead and a few of their movies are on Neon Alley.

We can't be told the details, but there have been reports that the two sides have not worked out a relationship, so for the time being, it's generally safe to count out Sentai titles as potential Toonami pickups at this point. At their Anime Boston panel (which I'll hopefully have up soon), David Williams did say that they are still interesting in the prospect, so I wouldn't be sure that there will never be any chance of it happening.

I remember making a thread about Urbance a couple of months back & suggesting that Toonami could air it one day. Unfortunately, we won't have an update on it's status until around September.

Well...they are "fine." One Piece has only been back for three weeks now and we've only seen the ratings for it two of those weeks. The first week it did great and the second week it didn't do so well in total viewers but seemed to do okay household wise so the adult viewers may still have been fine. It's really just too early to tell at this point how One Piece will consistently perform on the block.

I specifically asked how well One Piece has to minimally do to warrant its premieres to continue. That should be fair to ask, though he may not be allowed to say specifics.

idk if we already knew these things or even if they are useful or not but here... (i wasn't aware of it)... some of the notes

* Toonami staff did consider airing two OP episodes/week, starting the show from the beginning and they also considered airing Toonami special One Piece recap episodes but they did not get enough time to actually prepare and get the respective stuff in time. Therefore, they had to air from 207 without any specials.
* FUNimation offered a bunch of other shows along with One Piece... They picked OP because of the obvious reasons.
* Back in 2007, OP was doing quite well before it got taken off the air.
* Jason doesn't like how Toonami ratings get posted on the internet. Since they don't represent the full picture, people end up speculating stuff in a......... non constructive way.
* Toonami expansion is possible, but the ratings will have to do much better than they are doing now. It's not something that will happen near future or people tweeting about it... More ratings = Company might consider the idea of expanding it.

Airing two episodes a week would be the only way starting from the beginning could have worked, but it would have required an expansion to work too. I wonder what other shows Funimation offered, but I think that they made a good choice. At least an expansion is possible, even though it won't happen anytime soon.
