"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Toonami is being extremely proactive tonight with posting their content online. The opening is up and so is the new music video.

A Sword Art Online bumper aired last night on Adult Swim:

So, here's a bit of trivia: According to my records, after tonight, Toonami will have finally aired every episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

We're getting a new promo tonight:

#toonami fans- before I board this plane: tonight, our special goodie is a promoooo! Upcoming weeks: a NEW TOM speech and a game review!

Jason DeMarco also tweeted this:

I think it's fair to say the next three months will be a good time to be a #toonami fan....

I wonder what show the new promo is gonna be about. It seems too early for a SAO promo and a promo for a new show is pretty unlikely in my opinion.

My best guess would be a better cartoon show promo.

It could also be a movie promo. If so, I wonder what movie...

Evangelion 2.22 would be my first guess...

The opening tease of something big happening in a month is tantalizing. A month from now does time up with the launch of ADHD. Surprise expansion? I'd hope so, because it sounds like they're getting a new or returning show in addition to SAO at the very least and that's packing the schedule really tight if they don't expand.

That would be pretty cool. Based on the Twitter comment and the tease in the opening, it does sound like they would have something more in plan besides Sword Art Online coming in August. Plus, they said that they weren't sure if Sword Art Online was going to replace Eureka 7 from their recent Q&A session, so they probably have another show lined up. They would either need to drop one of the repeats in the later hours of the block or have an expansion. The former is probably more likely since they said that an expansion wasn't going to happen anytime soon. I'd love a surprise expansion, but I'm not sure how likely that is.

You know, they still have yet to release that webcomic, and it's been 2 months since TOM 5 started. Maybe that's the surprise?

Would a surprise be something that's already been announced, and on-air at that?

Remember, Sara was declared unlikely two months before she came back. I get the sense Toonami works very much at the last minute and a decision to expand could have been just made, like, yesterday.

I can follow that logic. Toonami, even the very nature of it's revival, has gone at a very "swift" pace. The Toonami crew doesn't want us waiting for anything it seems, (because they're spoiling us with all these shows. <3)

If that's what the surprise is, that would be awesome. I have a feeling, though, that we're going to be getting more than one surprise in a month.

Obviously the expansion surprise would come with another new show in addition to SAO. Maybe the "mystery show" they've been teasing forever is finally ready?

The Intro implied the lineup will be changing in a month. The second run of Sym-Bionic Titan will be over in a month. My guess is that Titan will simply be rotated out and the lineup will adjust accordingly to accommodate the new show, if we are getting a new show. I just don't think expansion is likely, not as long as they can air The Cleveland Show at 11pm.

The thinking is that in a month ADHD might prevent AS from airing Cleveland at 11.

While this year it will be all about Space Jam's 30th anniversary, at the same time, its 2021 not-so-big sequel/reboot film also celebrates the milestone of 5 years since this month
