"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Wow, they really did it. Now I'm certain, nothing is really off the table for this block so far as content goes.

So, am I the only one trying to figure out how they are going to deal with some of the nudity? I guess the nudity isn't blatant, but it's still there.

I expect it uncut or very close to it. There is way, WAAAAY too much of that content for them to possibly sanitize it. For heaven's sake, it's built into the battle costumes. They aren't stupid, they know exactly what they're getting into with this show.

Per the Toonami tumblr, Kill la Kill is getting put in at 11:30 PM. That's some confidence right there.

February 7th? I wonder what's getting bumped off to make room for it, nothing is set to end the week before. My best guesses are that they're either pulling Samurai Jack two weeks early or GITS gets the boot. IGPX just came back, they finally got the HD Bebop tapes, and Dandy hasn't gotten a full second run yet. Or they might pull AoT, but after all the fuss they made when they started this second run, they'd probably rather move it down to 3am than outright remove it.

Still, it's a pleasant surprise to finally get some real Toonami news for the first time in two months.

Yesss Kill la Kill.

And as I've said before, Adult Swim regularly pushes the envelope in similar ways to KLK in their comedies. (Remember King Star King - yes, I know, I'd like to forget it too, but there was that princess bath/shower scene which was WAYYYYY more over-the-top then most of KLK).

Plus didn't they run Blue Gender years ago? While I didn't personally see their edit, I assume there's no way they completely cut all the sexual content out of the show; there's full-on sex scenes which are relevant to character development.

I'd like to see them have a bit fun with some of the censorship and put comically-oversized black bars or cat heads or something, like The Room.

So all this leaves one question: What'll replace Gurren Lagann? My guess at this point is Madoka Magica, since its run is 12 episodes, which would conceivably leave room for a quick release of SAO II, because whether we like it or not, it WILL be added at some point.

Really didn't think they'd pick up Kill la Kill. Been looking forward to watching this for awhile now, can't wait!

Honestly, I don't find it surprising that Kill La Kill will join the lineup when the show was heavily requested.

Yeah trust someone who actually watched that Blue Gender dub they ran on Adult Swim: they editted those full on sex scenes to near extinction. Like they'd only show the couple kissing and then... instant either blurring out of everything or cutting out just entire segments of the episode down just to remove it. Blue Gender may very well of been the MOST editted show on Adult Swim that was actually made for the block. But you do have to remember that was back in 2003 when both the comedy and anime shows couldn't get away with nearly as much (heck the first time we even heard a show really use the S-word was a Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode in 2004 where now it's a regular thing) and the fact that this is a new hot acquistion they're pumping to the front of the block means they are likely going to be pretty uncut with it. I mean I know Hellsing got away with quite a bit being on later but they have to be confident with what they can do with Kill La Kill to put it on first so I imagine it will only be minimally edited. Guess we'll see when it does come on though but it's an interesting first new anime pick of the year anyway.

Yeah, but people ask for a lot of things. It's the fact a show like this can actually get onto TV that's surprising, at least in my view. There was a time not too long ago this would have been unthinkable to fans, certainly in the time prior to the Toonami 2.0 rebrand and after the end of classic Toonami I'd say.

That's pretty cool that they were able to get Kill La Kill. I've heard good things about it, so I'll check it out. I'm glad that it's premiering at 11:30PM since that might help with ratings if they start off a block with a new show. Plus, the lineup has been kind of lacking for awhile, at least for me due to how there are few shows that I'm actively watching on its current lineup. As for Attack on Titan, I wouldn't be surprised if it moves Deadman Wonderland down to 3AM so that they could give it a slightly earlier timeslot. That might help with rating for the later hours of the block too.

It couldn't be a more perfect choice to follow Gurren Lagann, not only continuing with the next Imaishi/Nakashima series but also announcing it at the same time as the final English release. Hopefully they air the OVA.

This is cool. I've wanted to watch Kill La Kill and what better chance to do that on Toonami? Glad they're putting it at 11:30, so thw block doesn't start with reruns. I was surprised that neither DBZ or The Final Act was put there.

Woooooooooow!!!!!

WTG, Toonami!!

Haven't seen this show, but I've seen it hyped to death.

Is this a FUNi dub?

Ah KiLK, bout time they make up for all the embarrassing Shonenslog they've been airing instead. Guess they don't have the rights to Gurren Lagann's final arc so they have to air it at 2...

...wait? 11:30?

Wow, they must really be hurting for ratings if they're going to air THAT EPISODE at 11:30.

I tried watching the first episode of KLaK when it simulcast but it didn't click with me. Hopefully this time around and with an English dub will help.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
