"Run like the wind, Bullseye!" - Woody

Release Date: 11/19/1999
Studio: Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios
Director: John Lasseter
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, Jodi Benson, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Estelle Harris, Wayne Knight.

Plot Summary: Andy heads off to summer camp, leaving the toys behind to fend for themselves. In much the same way Buzz discovered he is a mass-produced product in the first installment, Woody discovers that he is a valuable collectible spawned by a popular 1950s kiddie-puppet TV show, "Woody's Roundup Gang," when he is kidnapped by an evil toy collector, Al McWhiggin. Through Al, who plans to sell him to a Japanese toy museum, Woody is reunited with the toy versions of his TV cohorts--plucky cowgirl Jessie, prospector Stinky Pete, and trusty horse Bullseye. Woody must choose between seeing Andy grow up and forsake him and living a sterile but eternal life behind glass being admired--but not played with. Meanwhile, the rest of the original toy troupe undergoes a thrilling crosstown adventure to locate their kidnapped friend and restore him his rightful owner.

COMMENTS?

This sequel rarely triumphs over the original in my opinion. With double the Buzz, Zurg, Barbie, outtakes, Mrs. Potato Head, and Rex's bigger role, this movie beats the original with comedy. Also, Toy Story 2 was the first movie to make me cry with Jesse's song, even though recently, I start crying when Woody sings "You've Got a Friend in Me." Either way, Toy Story 2 is one of the greatest sequels of all time. In honor of the threequel coming out soon, I will post talkback threads of each film each month. Discuss away!

definitely a great follow-up to the first, but i still like the first toy story more because i like the story more there and i don't like those new characters that much (not saying that they weren't great characters...)

I think the sequel's better than the original in just about every way. I love how deep and meaningful the theme of this film is. At its core, it's a movie about mortality, whereas the first Toy Story is, more or less, a lesson about sharing.

Also, the comedy bits in this movie still hold up really well after almost eleven years. And the animation quality is a huge step up from the original. And Jessie's a fantastic character...really well-executed. Her flashback scene could have been cheesy, but it turned out great. Really heart-wrenching stuff.

Anyway, great movie. Almost positive it's my favorite of the Pixar films.

absolutely loved it. i'd put it on par with the first toy story. both were excellent movies.

This was good.
But yah, felt the first one was better too but still one of my favorites.
They introduced a great character too, Jessie.
She had a good storyline and I liked her and Woodys interactions.
The other Buzz was extremlly funny.
I give this one a 5/5.

I remember seeing this in the theater, it was the newer theater at the time (I saw the first TS at the Hollidaysburg theater, but it closed shortly after).

Overall I like this one better than the first one. Sometimes I get a little sniffly around Jessie's song.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
