Ultimate Spider-Man "Freaky"
Episode Premiere Date - June 17th, 2012

I'm not sure how others feel about this episode (since this series seems to be love it or hate it), but I did laugh at quite a few of the jokes. Two that stood out at me: the teen drama gag and the last "we are experiencing technical issues" gag.

One of the better episodes of Ultimate I've seen, but the humor still feels out of place most of the time and Spider-Man still doesn't come off as particularly smart.

This was a pretty funny episode. I kinda like this show. A lot of the gags are funny to me, though I see why some people don't like this show. My favorite parts were the "technical difficulties" gags, the soap opera gag, and Spidey as Wolverine slicing up his apartment. That reminded me of that bathroom scene from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.:D

Also Deadpool cameo! He was on a magazine cover that fell on Sabretooth's face.I would love to see him on this show! I wonder if he would be able to talk to Spidey when Spidey has his breaking the fourth wall moments.

I actually liked this episode. It was very entertaining, and hearing Blum freak out using his Wolverine voic is comedy gold right there.

I think that they maybe made Sabertooth a bit too much of a joke, but meh. At least this episode made me laugh.

One of the better episodes for sure. My god, that Soap Opera parody...

I really think if we had more episodes like this, more people would enjoy the show more. I wonder if what Agent X says is true (Overhaul for Season 2 with more serious plots) this show will do a 90s Iron Man and have the "team" break up and do their own thing. I think we can all agree this would probably help the show a LOT. I have to say I really enjoy these "Brave and the Bold" episodes more.

This episode one-uped "Exclusive" to be my new favorite of the series so far. The Soap Opera gag was a winner. All the awkward moments for Peter and Logan highlighted by Blum's marvelous take on Bell's intonation and Bell sounds good when he's not using a squeeky voice.

It's good to see so many positive responses to this episode...there may be hope for this show yet. Unfortunately, for the most part it was just more of the same for me. I really want to like Ultimate Spider-Man, but.....

I guess I was just a little automatically turned off by the premise; the 'character X and character Y swap bodies' premise has been done so many times in cartoons that I just instinctively cringe whenever someone employs it now. In USM's defense, they did manage to avoid many of its' cliches, though.

The 'Technical Difficulties' bit might have been amusing if they hadn't used it like 5 times in the story. Too much of the wacky-zany-nutty humor in USM just comes off as forced. I'd enjoy the cutaways, 4th wall breaking and meta jokes more if the show's writers didn't ram them down our collective gullets every 2 minutes and re-use the same jokes several times in the course of a single episode.

Sabretooth didn't really serve any purpose in this episode except to give Spidey and Wolvie someone to fight throughout the bulk of the story, but I did like his and Logan's designs here.

Speaking of fights, this was another episode where Spider-Man's teammates did nothing but hover around Peter for a single scene; they didn't even suit up here. Really, what's the point of giving Spider-Man a team if they hardly ever use them? We almost never see the other teen heroes apart from one another, and they're never even seen talking or interacting with any other characters besides Peter. They might as well just be figments of Peter's imagination.

My favorite part was when Wolverine in Peter's body beat the snot out of Flash (off-camera, of course). About dang time, I say; Flash's 1-dimensional bully shtick is beyond tired. Secret identity to uphold or not, any sane person with powers would've silenced his noise a long time ago. I also liked how Logan didn't even bother trying to assimilate into Pete's humdrum school life and just walked out of Midtown High after a couple of minutes; frankly, I would've done the same thing in his position. But then, it's worth mentioning that I hate secret identities in superhero shows. I've never been fond of the whole "I/we have/can do something really cool, but I/we have to keep it a secret from everybody" shtick, so whenever a character brushes that aside and says "Forget that!", it elicits a silent "Rock on!" from me.

Say what you will about this series but I enjoyed it a lot. Wolverine was great in this episode and it was a better version of a previous story that was in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. In that story written by Brian Michael Bendis, Wolverine and Spider-Man's bodies were swapped as result of a punishment by Jean Grey who was punishing Logan for either hitting on her again or having a dirty thought about her. I think this setup worked a lot better with Mesmero voiced by Dwight Schultz which was pretty awesome. Blum as Wolverine acting like Spidey was great, and Spidey acting like Wolverine was also fun. I also enjoyed Wolverine's cool show of respect toward Spider-Man at the end.

FYI, Peter Lurie voiced Sabretooth in this episode. He also voiced Sabretooth in Wolverine and the X-men.

Best episode by far. Peter finally started acting like Peter, but of course that's probably due to Mr. Bendis writing the script. This just goes to show that when written well USM can be really fun. Hopefully the rumors are true that Paul Dini and Brian Michael Bendis will be writing more episodes in the second season.

I may check this one out. If USM had been promoted as "Spiderman: The Brave and the Bold" I would have tempered my expectations. BBatB had DC DNA.

That sounds promising. :)

If true, I agree. I may hate what BENDIS! has done to the Avengers franchise, but I like what he did with Ultimate Spider-Man (the comic).

Amazing episode :D
Great to have Wolverine,Sabertooth, and Memsero to appear on the show
My favorite parts are Spiderman and Wolverine switching bodies, the cutaway scene with Chibi Spiderman faxing Wolverine, and the ending XD

Wolverine guest-stars this week on Ultimate Spider-man and similar to the previous few episodes in which established characters from the Marvel Universe like Iron Man or the Hulk appeared in, I thought this was one of the better episodes this show offered so far. Wolverine's design here looks pretty cool, as does Sabretooth's. Most of the characters on this show look great though there have been some designs that were a little too bland. The story is the now classic "body swap episode", starring Spider-man and Wolverine. While I never read the comic book this story is based on (the few Ultimate Marvel comics I ever read were only X-Men titles), this episode turned out pretty cool.

Obviously the show still uses a lot of cut-away scenes and still has a few too many fourth wall breaking moments for me, but this time some of them were really good. For example, I loved the High School Soap Opera montage ("One Life to Web") though I was surprised they chose Dr. Doom in particular for a recurring role on the show - I'm probably over-thinking this. But you got to admit it was pretty hilarious. Another moment I found pretty funny was when Logan in Peter's body tries to wear the Spider-man outfit but puts his mask on backwards. For the most part though, the other "gags" weren't that humorous. The "We are experiencing technical difficulties" gag was used too many times, and I just didn't find it that funny. The show seems to use a running gag like this almost in every episode, and not one of them so far has really seemed that funny to me. But like I said, at least one gag made me laugh; it's the first time I actually laughed at an episode of this show, so that's something.

Looks like the show is finally getting a little better. Though obviously I could be wrong; one episode could be great, like this one and the next one turns out to be so bad you can't sit through and actually make it to the end of the episode. While I didn't find any of the previous episodes completely unwatchable, there have been some pretty bad ones where the story doesn't make much sense and which I won't be re-watching anytime soon. But this was probably the most fun I had watching an episode of this show so far. Since the chances of actually developing Spidey's team-mates on this show or actually have them do something worthwhile are pretty slim, I'm looking forward to more team-up episodes like this one. As long as they're done right, I'm guessing they can be entertaining enough.

Finally, I can say the voice acting was great in an episode of Ultimate Spider-man. Steve Blum as Wolverine is usually great, but him using a whiny voice similar to the one Peter/Spidey has on the show, was even better. Drake Bell using a voice similar to Logan's was also pretty great. I'm glad they didn't switch voices once they switched bodies in this episode, and instead had the regular voice actors try and emulate each others' voices. Not a lot of shows have done this in their body-switch episodes (the only other examples I can think of right now would be Justice League Unlimited's "The Great Brain Robbery" episode and from Marvel cartoons, the episode "Doomsday" from the Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes series). Other than that, it was nice hearing Peter Lurie voice Sabretooth again, reprising his role from the recent Wolverine and the X-Men show, and Dwight Schultz made for a pretty good Mesmero. All in all, this was the best episode yet.

I thought this was another enjoyable episode and I especially liked this take on Wolverine. Nothing felt particularly new (probably due to my familiarity with the original comic story) but I was still pretty entertained with the adaptation. As far as the humor stuff goes, I found myself liking what was attempted more than I disliked anything (as usual) but I still found myself with minor nitpicks ( for example, I thought the soap opera clip ran a little longer than it needed to). It kind of threw me off to watch an episode with no big climactic battle but the ending felt like the most sensible outcome. It is kind of ironically funny that the episode that seems to be humor focused is the one getting the most love, so I wonder how that will go over with the writers.

On a final note, I really hope MAS figures out some kind of vehicle for Blum as Wolverine soon because ,IMHO, going too long without some more of that would be a crime.

LOL at Doctor Doom in a soap opera. XD

Pretty cool episode. Steve Blum was awesome (as always) as Wolverine, as is Peter Lurie as Sabretooth. Dwight Schultz was also pretty good as Mesmero.

Also, I cracked up at Logan-in-Peter's-body beating up Flash. XD

I liked this episode. The humor and drama were balanced better than seen before in this series and I loved how they portrayed Wolverine here. I was surprised to see Wolverine willing to kill innocent people, given how light-hearted this show is, but it played well in contrasting him between Spider-Man. The cutaways were also funny. I was cringing a bit when the soap opera joke started, but Doctor Doom's appearance saved it. The show also seemed to poke fun of itself for telling viewers what they already know when it introduced Nick Fury.

The Bendis episode was so far better than all the others. Certainly less leaps in logic or plot holes, and the humor was far better balanced here.

Best episode yet. I admit the technical difficulties gag was used a bit too much, but everything else was fun. I also liked that soap opera parody.
We need more episodes like this.I think the show can have comedy and action, but it needs to be balanced better, like it was here.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
