So this year I've noticed there is a weird pattern with new shows on Cartoon Network.

1. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: The Series
This show came out in March. It didn't get good ratings, yet CN played marathons of it right off the bat anyway. It was a steady competitor to Gumball and Teen Titans Go! in reruns. Then, it got taken off the air on May 13, 2017 because Ben 10 (2016) beat it in the ratings.

2. Ben 10 (2016)
After Cloudy went off the air, this took the title of the #3 most aired show. Like Cloudy, it had negative critical reception and it just got marathoned right off the bat. It hasn't been taken off the air yet, but it now averages around 10 reruns per week due to.....

3. OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes
OK KO was extremely hyped by Cartoon Network. Due to it having great ratings on demand and in the app, OK KO stole Ben 10's #3 spot and is a worthy competitor to Gumball and TTG. It also has a good premiere slot, and is overall a good show, unlike Ben 10 2016 and Cloudy, which are pretty bad. I wonder if Ben 10 will get taken off the air in September, due to poor toy sales. Only time will tell.

Why do you think these new shows get aired so much?

I think it's that CN wants them to be recognized as much as possible when they start as brand new shows, which is why they give them as much air time is possible. I guess its their tactic to try and get shows to become popular. The result of this ratings wise, they haven't been too high for any of them. Not much past 1 million viewers and sometimes not even reaching close to 1 million viewers. But it doesn't seem too bad of an attempt if they're desperate to give these shows a lot of recognition.

I think Cartoon Network is starting to develop this mentality that Marathons and Bombs = Success. But that's a very hit and miss strategy when done incorrectly. OK KO did pretty well at first, but only because it had the TTG! special to piggyback off of. Subsequent premieres dropped bellow 1 million after a week because it didn't have an established hit to carry it. If they're going to keep this mentality, then they need to make sure a new series is paired with an established hit if they want consistent results.

What do you mean by "established hit"?

A Show that is known to have consistently good ratings and audience appeal. Teen Titans Go!, Gumball, We Bare Bears, etc.
But TTG! has been leading into OK K.O.! for the past few weeks!

I mean premieres of an established hit, not reruns.
Oh. Okay.

Of course, I believe ratings for OK K.O.! will increase when premieres will start on Fridays starting September 1st, because there won't be any app premieres for the next two episodes (including the one on Labor Day!). Also because there will be new episodes for TTG, We Bare Bears, and Gumball starting next Friday! I do wonder if Ben 10 also counts?

At this point CN is just dishing out programs and hoping they will be successful, its a phase that is going on in the channel. Once the next show airs hopefully Ok-Ko is still around.

Disney XD has been doing the same with some of their shows too. I guess they're trying to do a Netflix strategy by releasing multiple episode of different shows each month.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
