What are your thoughts on the current states of AEW and WWE?
It seems to me that WWE is having a lot of trouble building new stars. They recently tried putting the WWE Title on Big E and it didn’t work. Other than Drew McIntyre, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, and Becky Lynch, the star power is minimal and the product is stale. At the same time, their huge streaming and TV deals with NBC and FOX almost make it so that they don’t have to try. Nick Khan, probably the most powerful man in WWE right now, is releasing talent right and left, but I think he knows where the money is.
AEW certainly has problems, but they have incredible in-ring workers, and picking up Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole this past fall really helped them. Bringing in CM Punk was a great idea, and I love almost everything from Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and MJF. I’d love to see them become competitors to WWE, and even if they never reach 1997 WCW levels, they are definitely bigger than TNA ever was. Hats off to them!
