I think it began the downward spiral when it moved to Saturdays. Albeit it wasn't a rapid downward spiral until the cancelation of YYH. Then When Uncut DBZ and Naruto came, new hope arose and the plunge began to slow. Then the cut to two hours.....SEE YA LATER. Once that happend it made a beeline to oblivion. There were so many simple solutions to keep it there. It seems like CN wanted them to make the worst schedule so they would have low ratings for the block and have an excuse to cancel the block. That's what it SEEMS like at least (but that wasnt the case to that extreme at least).

I've been a Toonami viewer since Thundercats, DBZ and Sailor Moon were on the lineup. Cartoon Network is nothing but trash!!!!!

I'd say the removal of DBZ and One Piece, they made the block for me when it was cut down two hours

I hated the two-hour version of the block, but not a much as the fact it was on only Saturdays.

They had every chance to add more action shows, even replay their older ones, but no...

That doesn't add anything to the thread at all. You're entitled to your opinion, but I'd think it's best if you save something like this for the other 9 "CN is dead now that they cut Toonami threads" now running on the Toonami board.

Just my opinion...

When IGPX was banished it would have been a miracle if Toonami was ever given the funding to make another original series. This event didn't kill Toonami, but dealt it a serious blow.

A warning sign for me that Toonami was in trouble was when the promos dried up. A new Naruto promo each week was nice, but I would have settled for a promo or two at the beginning of each story arc.
No Naruto promo for the Sasuke retrieval arc or even the Sasuke vs. Naruto fight? FAIL!
No One Piece promo for the new FUNi dub or the Skypeia arc? Extra fail!

The final nail in the coffin was the reduction of the block to two hours.
Sure it was nice to be rid of Yu-Gi-Oh GX and Teen Titans reruns, but where was MAR, Prince of Tennis, Zatch Bell, One Piece, and DBZ? There were plenty of shows they could have used to make a 3 or 4 hour block.

I hate the Nielson ratings system. It's old, it's busted, it's obsolete. If you aren't a Nielson family, you don't matter.
Networks still live and die by those ratings though. CN expected uber ratings with no advertising.
They could have made the new Friday block Toonami if they really wanted to keep the Toonami name, but no, they had to kill it off.

To me, it was when Funi One Piece went off, and the only new show was Naruto.
If that wasn't a good time to end a programming block I don't know what is.

The cut to two hours. I actually enjoyed Toonami on Saturdays for a long while, but after that it was dead to me.

The cut to 2 hours in October, the lack of ads, and Naruto being the only show with new episodes was a sign for me. That and also airing Paradox episode every other week.

Toonami, for me, died over a year ago, so to be honest, I was apathetic when the official announcement came. Still am, really.

You know, I didn't think about this until now, but I think that's a large part of why Toonami died. That's not why Toonami's SOUL died, but that's why Toonami the block died. They just stopped advertising it. Naruto was popular for quite a while. A lot of people at my school liked it. Then suddenly they just stopped. And I just realized, that was about the time CN stopped advertising it. They really need to stop taking ratings for granted and advertise their shows. The loyal fanbase is the only group that's going to watch if you don't advertise, and the chance of a devoted viewer instead of a casual viewer getting a Nielson diary is pretty small. This is what killed ASA, and this is what killed Toonami. Cartoon Network needs to advertise more.

Not only that, but it's also the fact that CN became too obsessive about ratings for their own good. If a show's ratings weren't up to CN's expectations, even if the ratings weren't too terrible, they would force the show off the block in as little as a week or two. They made too many schedule changes over time, and I think that started to confuse some of the viewers, too. I think if they gave certain shows more of a chance, maybe things would have turned out differently. Obviously CN was too desperate to compete with the likes of Nickelodeon and Disney,

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
