The Toonami Thread

The only show I ever really watched on Toonami was Hamtaro when it aired. That was a great show. I really enjoyed it. I never got into any of the other shows.

Well its been 1 year and i gotta say my thoughts on cartoon network are still in fact similar now to the night of toonami's final broadcast and that is them making all these stupid changes and mistakes to the network though everything comedy is pretty descent im just not feeling it with the Saturday morning action shows and on a not as close as toonami scale with friday nights YAH. But w/e CN has a new generation of kids to offer programming to.

So as it goes Toonami was one of the best things on TV and one year later I still miss it but i know that every year unless CN makes some awesome changes I won't be so mad at what the network has become.

I remember when Toonami ended last year. It was kind of sad, but not so much at the same time. It probably helps that I was fairly distant from the block like that point, similar to how I felt when Kids' WB ended, even though I feel like I was more of a fan of that block. Anyway, I do understand and respect how people really appreciated the block and how they were sad when it ended. The block was around for a good long time and it gave many people different kinds of memories, which is really nice if you think about it for a moment.

I don't mean to knock the children shows of present (I love several of them) but kids these days don't know how bad they got it. Toonami not only had great cartoons and anime but a kickass host and awesome promos. It really felt like they were going beyond the call of duty when you watched all those cool commercials and intros with the awesome music, narration, and nice usage of clips.

Your site, along with every other TZ affiliated site had this page for a short amount of time. According to what Harley said, it was just something she forgot to clean up.

Just in case people want to know what was up.

Aye. Weird. Started to sweat a little.

Back to work.

My condolences for your lost loved ones Jeff. You sure go through a lot each year. Glad you're still working on the The X Bridged though, I always find the articles to be interesting reads.

Now everyone... (guess the Toonami quote)

It has been over a year since Toonami was taken off the air but Toonami's "spirit" lives on in every action cartoon you see on TV today because we all know that little block rocked the action animation industry.

However, it's been over a year. If you're still morning an animation block it's time to re-evaluate your priorities. There's still plenty of great action cartoons on US television. You just have to look around.

Wow, I found some rare promos from back when Toonami was about to premiere on Youtube. It was cool to see those promos again after so many years.

You mind giving a link to them? ;)

Sadly, in regards to decent/somewhat mature action cartoons/anime on television, one line from this video always seems to ring all too true: "Let me repeat that. If this mission fails, if we are unsuccessful, we have no future."

A programming block on a children's network that specialized in action and "unusual" programming compared to other shows that lasted 11 years, 3 days, and 7 hours and managed to develop an incredible fanbase is considered a "failure"?

If the fans were outside the targeted demographic, then yes. The wrong people were watching the ads. Therefore, the programming is a failure.

That's a stupid and shortsighted way to look at it, but that's the television business.

The fact that it lasted as long as it did was definitely because the company ignored the age groups they needed to target and left it for the fans outside that group.

True enough, but when new people with different priorities came to be in charge, that all changed to what we have now.

By the logic of the current regime, a 25 year old should be just as valuable as a 14 year old, as they're both consumers of the same targeted advertisers (cell phones, video games, consumer electronics, etc).

Now the question that should be asked was the over emphasis on a very slim group the desire of the CN execs or the various potential sponsors (or both).

I blame Nielsen.

Today marks the 25th Year Anniversary of when Pokémon Crystal was released in North America. To this day, the Johto Games remain my favorite games in the Pokémon Franchise.
Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
