"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I really don't like the fact that eureka 7 was moved to 2:30 I have enough trouble trying to stay up as it is.

I don't think I've watched any of the Tenchi series. At the most, I've only seen clips of one of the series while I was flipping through the channels every once in awhile. I'm not sure how much I can get into it, especially when most of the responses here aren't that positive for it, but I'll give Tenchi GXP a shot. I am kind of disappointed that this is the show that's replacing Casshern Sins since I was hoping for something a bit bigger after all of the hype. I imagine that it was probably pretty cheap for them to get it though. I guess this would also explain that comment DeMarco mentioned on how this new show would make some people mad.

I've never seen GXP, but the overwhelmingly neagative reaction to it confirms my worries. Why the heck would they get a legitimately bad show? Well, hopefully the series isn't as bad as people are saying, but I HATE fanservice with a passion so if GXP has it I'm going to be severely furious.

The schedule for next week says that Cowboy Bebop will be skipping to episodes 23 and 24. I believe this may be an effort to replace both Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Cowboy Bebop at the same time, or it's a mistake. If my former guess is true, than the schedule will likely shake up again after two weeks. Maybe then we'll see the inclusion of another new show or the return of some older ones, because there were supposed to be FUNimation shows (plural) on the way, and Durarara should get another run before the rights expire. Although, they might have the license for Brotherhood for another year or so, so they could potentially just give it another run, but we'll see.

It happened briefly, but it really did happen...

So now we know what the easter egg was:

TOM 3 .... speaking with TOM 4

Never thought we would see the day of that happening.

soooo... does that easter egg mean that TOM 4 isn't a real TOM? or is it the other way around? i don't even know.

that easter egg blew my mind Jason did say a promo would be airing for something there doing with Tom next week possible tie? I love to see tom 4.0 again

Tenchi Muyo! GXP is a fairly funny show in its own right, and it takes place in the Tenchi Muyo! OVA continuity. But FUNimation's dub (outsourced to LA) isn't one of my favorites. It was dubbed in the era when FUNi was a bit more liberal with its English dub translations (and episode titles). While mostly staying true to the original, it skimps over some random bits of connectivity to the overall Tenchi storyline (which they wouldn't know about), and tones down some of the dirtier jokes (which you can get by turning on the Japanese subtitles on the DVD's).

The acting itself is fine. So if you never saw anything of Tenchi before, you'll probably enjoy this. It's a fun romp. If you enjoyed the previous Tenchi series in English and haven't seen this in English yet, one episode might be a bit jarring to your ears.

I'll watch it again, mainly to see how "dirty" [as] will allow it to be....

That confused me about the TOMs but should be interesting to see where it goes

GXP? From all the classic shows th FUN could air, they chose this? I'm passing.

Call me when they air Black Cat or Heroic Age, or something.

Question for someone who knows the Tenchi universe:

Is it required to have watched any other Tenchi series, or knowing something about the Tenchi universe before watching GXP? Because I know absolutely nothing about it, but I want to watch GXP if it's on Toonami.

No. Tenchi isn't even in this series; it's a spinoff.

I have never heard of this series before, and I don't mind fanservice as long as the show is a comedy. Despite the negative responses I will give this show a decent chance.

Well, he and many of the girls are in one episode... not voiced by their original actors.
Which I'm still mad about.
But oh well, it was one episode, and it was before OVA 3 where they got back all but one actor (but even then I'm still mad about).

I guess before St. Patrick's Day 2007 came to be, TOM 3 must have downloaded his memory into TOM 4 after Flash and T fashioned TOM 4's body. TOM 3 must have visited Flowus 3 and passed the torch there.

Tenchi Muyo! GXP, huh. That one where Tenchi's friend is the main character right? Weird choice.

im sure they have everything planed out maybe when FMA ends they will GXP back there and a new show will come at 12:30 maybe its so new they needed to wait for the dub? Also with this Tom 4 thing it was amazing it sound like TOM 4.0 said "Yeah I'm a little upset, killer turnover." then he said have people been asking about me? Jason did say a new promo would air last night for something there doing with TOM on monday i dont think it will be anything big maybe them just talking it was still amazing to see. Also it seems they may be trying to move away from the 2004 style with the blue bumps

Great TOM 3.5 talking to TOM 4 segment, it's nice to see TOM 4 again even though he was probably my least favorite of the TOM's...

Also, cool promo promoting Tenchi Muyo GXP and the new/modified lineup, color me super excited!

A Tenchi series is definitely a throwback to the old Toonami--back when it aired weekday afternoons. Loved Tenchi Muyo! and Tenchi Universe--but really didn't care all that much for Tenchi In Tokyo. Always wanted to see Tenchi Muyo! GXP but never thought it would air on Toonami. Funny how things work out. A harem comedy series--albeit one with action, adventure, aliens, and mecha--is definitely more old school Toonami than Adult Swim Action.

That promo with TOM 3 talking to TOM 4 was a weird, yet cool surprise. I'm still not too excited for Tenchi GXP, especially when I'm not a fan of fanservice, but at least I won't need to watch any of the other Tenchi series to understand it. I'll still probably give it a couple of episodes to see if it works for me, or if I can at least tolerate it.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
