Wow awesome news! I kind of liked Naruto back in the day and I really didn't watch much after the Chunnin Exams, so I'll be watching.

Look at it this way, more anime on US TV and ONE STEP CLOSER TO A ONE PIECE TV DEAL!!!!!

So, with movies being in the woks for the block, I see these as a few options:

Any of the Bleach movies
Any of the Naruto movies
Any of the Inuyasha movies
DBZ movies that Nicktoons doesn't have the rights to
Any DCAU movies (I'd love to see the Uncut Return of the Joker air!)
Samurai Jack Pilot movie
Summer Wars

Now that they have two mega-shonens, I really hope they're not gonna be getting any more until either an expansion or when Bleach ends in 2014. Maybe if they're willing to alternate between shows. But already I'm not too fond of the idea of the first hour of Toonami being pretty much permanently locked in, and anything more than that would be overkill. I don't want the relatively more mature portion of the block getting the shaft, as it feels like is happening with Sam 7 being pushed to 2. Now that they have Naruto, I'd hope picking up something like Tiger and Bunny or Michiko to Hatchin or Black Lagoon would be a higher priority than getting DBZ (way overexposed) or One Piece (4Kids dented its reputation too much to really give it any hope with a casual audience).

While the 4Kids dub certainly didn't help it, I don't think that it dented its reputation to prevent it from gaining a casual audience. There's a good chance that a significant portion of the audience didn't even see the 4Kids dub anyway. So, I don't think it would hurt to eventually try to put One Piece on the block. I wouldn't mind Tiger and Bunny joining the block since I've been really curious about that show for awhile.

As for the movies, I'm all in favor of DCAU movies, especially the uncut Return of the Joker. It's been ages since I've seen Batman Beyond. I'd also like to see some of those other animated DC/Marvel movies since I think only a couple of the DC animated movies aired on Toonami in the past.

Thanks for the link. While I'm still not into the series, I'm also still willing to watch it to see if it does click for me. I wasn't sure if it was expiring on other sites besides Crunchyroll. I don't know if they upload Eureka 7 on Adult Swim's On Demand page, but I'll see if that's a choice for me as well since that would probably help the block more than watching the series on Hulu.

I don't think Eureka Seven is on On Demand, unfortunately.

Currently the Hub has the airing rights to most of the DCAU shows and I'm not sure if that includes movies or not.

I know Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker have aired in past year and I think I remember seeing Subzero air too

This is exactly what the return of Toonami needs. Great to see. And fully uncut now that it can be. Perfect.

My number one choice for a movie on Toonami would be Redline. It's fantastic, potentially widely appealing, and way underexposed. Akira would be cool to see on the block as well. The Rebuild of EVA movies seem like obvious choices. The Hub might have the rights to the DCAU movies but I don't think they have any of the recent DC DTVs, which given their adult-targeted and generally PG-13 nature would make a lot of sense for Toonami. I'd definitely tune in for a Dark Knight Returns double-feature. Another potential good idea: the Madoka movies. If Toonami doesn't want to commit to 12 weeks to air the show, then taking two weeks to show the movies might be more convenient. The Samurai Jack "premiere movie" is really just the first three episodes of the show so unless CN had a change of heart and lets Toonami air the show I doubt it'll happen. I've already voiced my feelings about Summer Wars airing on the block.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Madoka movies on Toonami. I'd greatly prefer seeing the series on the block, but if the movies would be cheaper, then I wouldn't mind seeing those movies covering the events of the series instead.

I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate here: This is an awful decision. Now we have TWO place holders for long-running shows at the start of the block, and they're not going to leave anytime soon. Just when Bleach is going into reruns, they make the schedule worse by putting in MORE reruns and pushing the premieres later into the night. That doesn't make things better; that's poking us with a stick.

Here's an idea: Why not air THIS at 5AM instead of the overplayed InuYasha? When this show aired on CN's Toonami, they at least had the decency to air double premieres because they were aware of the show's length. This is gonna be brutal at one episode a week.

Just when Bleach is going into reruns, they make the schedule worse by putting in MORE reruns and pushing the premieres later into the night. That doesn't make things better; that's poking us with a stick.

Here's an idea: Why not air THIS at 5AM instead of the overplayed InuYasha? When this show aired on CN's Toonami, they at least had the decency to air double premieres because they were aware of the show's length. This is gonna be brutal at one episode a week.

I don't know if 5AM would make sense for something they paid money for recently. The more logical thing would be to air it at 1 and have two premiere shows are 12:30 and 1:30 so they benefit from the big hits. Really, it's Thundercats pushing Samurai 7 to 2 that bothers me more than anything about the new schedule.

Actually this is VERY good decision. Naruto was always a powerhouse for ratings (until the filler that is) and I'm guessing it's going to performer very well once again. And I wouldn't be worried the 12am slots being locked down for good because I'm thinking that Naruto's rating might allow us to take over the 11pm slots.

Here are my predictions as to how this might (and hopefully) will pan out:

1) Naruto will get the best ratings out of any other Toonami show thus far and may even beat out the Boondocks

2) Toonami will expand an hour making the block 11:00pm-6:00am, allowing Naruto to double up from 11-12

3) Naruto's great ratings will allow Toonami to pick up better and more well known shows and everyone will be happy again (except the haters of course )

I don't know how long the run will be. The Japanese seem to regard episode 136-220 as nonexistent. Naruto was recently compiled there into 3 DVD sets and it stops at episode 135, and a famous rerun that ran right before the DVD release also stopped at 135. With these indicators, it could be the case that Naruto's run will end at 135 and by that point Shippuden should be available.

The midnight slots being locked up will not last forever. Bleach has an expiration date. In 2014, it's over. By that point I consider it pretty damn likely that Naruto will have doubled up at some point and we'll be ready to start Shippuden if we already haven't.

And THAT is assuming that Toonami does not occupy the 11 pm slots at that point either. That hour is struggling and it's conceivable that Toonami could take that hour in 2013, and Naruto is a logical choice for that hour. It's doubtful Toonami will expand any more than that though.
