Despite DBZ Kai being basically DBZ edited down to be a more faithful adaptation of the manga, I think that it's considered a different show, which is probably one reason they went for it. Still, I wouldn't mind if Sailor Moon took Bleach's slot. It would give the new dub some good exposure and provide a bit of nostalgia for the block. I'd still kind of prefer for Crystal to be on the lineup instead just because it would be something new, while still appealing to nostalgia at the same time, but that won't happen for at least another year, or longer if Viz wants to finish dubbing the original series before moving to Crystal, so going for the new dub of the original series would be nice.

The only issue would be that it would result in another slot being locked up for a few years and Toonami has enough of those, but I could see Sailor Moon ratings doing quite nicely.

If I had to post my predictions for the future, I would have to say Dragon Ball Z Kai will replace Attack on Titan and Toonami might get a deal to run the new Sailor Moon dub in place of Bleach. Now, before you all explode and say "Nope, can't run that, it's before Bebop." here me out.

From what I am reading, Dragon Ball Z Kai is a remastered and revised cut of the original DBZ, made to follow more closely to the manga. So essentially, it's Dragon Ball Z (which pre-dates Bebop), just a director's cut. While the new Sailor Moon dub doesn't have any changes in, it is still revised in a way. Toonami ran the original SM dub (which as you all know was heavily edited and it completely omitted several episodes, as well as skipping over Sailor Stars). This is a brand new uncut dub that will showcase all 200 episodes, as I'm sure you're all aware as well. This is why I believe it is an exception to the "nothing older than Bebop" rule.

It should also be noted that the footage itself has been remastered into HD, so it also shares that similarity to Kai. Just that no footage has been cut. If Sailor Moon does air, I could see them airing it as either "Sailor Moon Remastered", "Sailor Moon Uncut", or "Sailor Moon HD." Like how they re-aired old school Naruto as "Naruto Uncut." It's too bad Toonami won't get a weeknight run anytime soon, as I would think an hour of DBZ Kai and Uncut Sailor Moon would have a lot of potential. You'd think if any shows could convince Adult Swim to give Toonami a weeknight block, it would be those two shows.

The only way I see a weeknight run happening is if Fox revokes the Animation Domination reruns to put them on FXX, and I doubt that'll happen anytime soon, since the deal is too valuable for both parties (I think), not to mention even with The Simpsons, FXX is still a relatively small network.

Yeah the Fox reruns are the biggest reason. And the non Fox slots are for rerunning Adult Swim's own originals like Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen. The biggest chance would be if Adult Swim got rid of some of the encores during the late slots, which even then the network would be reluctant to do.

So what is the plans for 12: 30 after Space Dandy ends, I hope they keep a comedy in that spot, Toonami could use more variety besides just action shows all the time.

i agree. toonami has allowed wiggle room throughout its span so a comedy anime with little to no action would be good. funiamtion and other companies have dubbed lots of low brow and strange comedy series that would attract fans of dandy.

Toonami is still an action block, so it should stick with that basic premise. Variety is fine, but you can get that with shows that would be considered action. An action/comedy series like say Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple would still provide some variety while fitting the block's premise.

Heh if they wanted to actually do something with Sentai (outside of running Akame Ga Kill when its dubbed), they could always Shinsekai Yori.

I honestly still don't find the series that depressing. It certainly isn't happy go-lucky, but despite the situation the characters are in, the tone doesn't come off as completely dark and depressing all the time. There are moments of triumph and hope that balance out with the despair they're facing against the Titan, so it doesn't feel so overwhelmingly depressing and hopeless.

I agree completely. Casshern Sins was especially more bleak by comparison since it was dealing with the concept of death and the ending was basically the characters accepting death as a part of their world, along with most of the characters in the main cast dying. I'm not sure if I'd say that Black Lagoon was depressing per say, but it did have a much darker tone with little light to it, so I could see how that series could be considered depressingly dark. I just found it to be more overwhelmingly dark rather than being depressing because of its dark tone for the most part. While the deaths in Attack on Titan are pretty brutal and the situation the characters are in is pretty bleak in itself, it still doesn't feel overwhelmingly dark or depressing. It is dark, but you can still see a lot of shonen elements with some of the characters and the lighter moments to balance out the despair.

Well I remember when toonami aired dark movies back then! Mononoke,Hellboy,superman doomsday etc. I remember they had a TV-14 rating! those were the best movies! I miss them they are dark for a kids channel!

I generally like it. The lineup is a bit better than it was a few months ago for me, most of the shows I watch on the block are interesting/enjoyable, it's a fun way to spend Saturday night, or Sunday morning if I miss a few shows, and they have come a long way since the block started up again in 2012. They've clearly put in a lot of effort to get the shows people would like to see or that would do well on the lineup and I respect them for that.

Frankly, I'm just glad to see new life being breathed into Adult Swim's Saturday action block. It had grown stale during its last few years before Toonami took its place. They mainly just kept playing Bleach and hour-long blocks of the same few shows over and over and over... Only occasionally would ASA pick up something new anymore (heck, Durarara!! was their ONLY new show in 2011). Toonami brought in variety and rotation on the lineup, and now they have FOUR HOURS worth of premieres, so I'm glad they took over Saturday nights.

I personally love what Toonami has become (and it coming back in general). I think it's pretty awesome that something like Black Lagoon or Hellsing Ultimate can air neigh uncut sans really bad language and nudity etc on TV. and it's definately the Teenami/Teen Swim to some extent that many of us craved back in the 00's. The marriage of ASA and Toonami has brought us something great. And I don't think it has lost old Toonami's vibe, merely matured it, sprinkled with stuff we'd find on the old block like Naruto, Star Wars, Samurai Jack, Bleach, soon DBZ Kai and others. And truely, nothing beats the Toonami presentation and WS' respect of anime and the fanbase.
