"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I wonder how they'll handle the schedule for next week. They have two free slots that they got unexpectedly, so I wonder if they'll throw in some new shows that they weren't planning on including until later. They might just double up on reruns if that would be easier to manage at such a short notice.

According to the schedule for October 4th, it looks like they'll be replacing Batman with reruns of Space Dandy (which they were initially planning to give a break after the finale). Sym-Bionic Titan wasn't actually on the schedule at the moment (though it was a reserve title they had talked about airing again), so they won't have to find a replacement for it. Unless you mean about losing Clone Wars unexpectedly as well, in which case they have Big O stepping in to fill that spot.

I thought that Sym-Bionic Titan was on the schedule again, but I must have been mistaken. Space Dandy reruns replacing Beware the Batman makes sense. While giving it a break after the finale probably would have been a good choice, this was an unexpected change in their schedule and it was probably easier to put reruns of Space Dandy on the lineup at such a short notice. Plus, given that they mentioned that Hellsing Ultimate would be on at a earlier time next week, if figures that they wouldn't put in another new show on the lineup this soon, especially when they usually prefer to announce new shows a bit sooner than a week before they start anyway.

Though I'm glad Hellsing Ultimate will be on earlier so I can do live commentary (I can't do 3AM CST, I go to church), I am genuinely sad to see these two shows go. Particularly Sym-Bionic Titan - shows set in a high school aren't all that interesting to me, but I kinda liked this one.

Big disappointment. Really got into Batman. I can applaud myself for watching all 20 SBTs in its last rotation, good move and enjoyed all of it. At least Space Dandy remains, and they say (begins re-running) but wonder if that means from S1 that has played twice or S2 which is only ending its first run. If they manage(d) to keep it longer, then I suppose the 1st episode is good enough. At least in this way they have good filler. -- It's also airing in the same hour with Bebop, I like that pairing. "The Watanabe Hour" anyone?

Have to wonder, maybe someone can tell me here, why the Legal Department sees the need to do this?

Even though I'm upset about Beware the Batman, I totally appreciate that Toonami is willing to preempt Hellsing so that they can air the rest of the episodes in a marathon. This is why I have respect for Toonami.

Well, I guess one bright side to Toonami losing Beware the Batman is that I can go to sleep much earlier than I have been able to on Saturday night. Hellsing Ultimate airing at 2AM does make it easier for more people to watch it live and gives it more of a chance to do well in ratings, but it still isn't worthwhile for me to stay up for it. It might have been more tempting had it started airing at 2AM from the start, but I probably still wouldn't have watched it since it doesn't look like my cup of tea.

I am curious if they'll start Space Dandy from the beginning or just reair season two. I'd prefer for them to reair season two since they've already gone through season one twice. Plus, it won't take them as long to go through only one season so that they can potentially setup for a new show to get on the lineup sooner rather than later.

I thought Batman would be gone by November, now it is going away.I did not also knew that there would be reruns of Space Dandy after it finishes it's new episode run.I thought it would be replaced.

I have Sym Bionic Titan on I Tunes, I still hope one day season two will get a comic book adaptation, but 20 episodes eventully it would get old.

How does Turner decide what shows to write off? Titan got good ratings on AS, so why write it off? Where do the rights to written off shows go?

I don't think that they were planning on Space Dandy reruns so soon after finishing the series given their initial lineup for October. This was more like a sudden and unexpected change to their schedule so Space Dandy reruns were probably the easiest show they could up in the lineup on such short notice.

Wha...???????

I guess I understand Beware the Batman since it was a WB/DC production and someone in power probably doesn't want any confusion between the new live-action Gotham show on FOX and a failed cartoon based on the same property.

But why would CN write off one of their own in-house shows like Sym-Bionic Titan? And apparently the exact same thing happened to Megas XLR a few years ago?

Are they seriously losing that much money just by having short-lived past series sitting in a storage vault years after they ceased production and first-run airings? If that was somehow the case, why not just digitize the existing episodes and destroy the physical inventory?

I bet they never wrote off other failures like Problem Solverz, Annoying Orange, or Secret Mountain Fort Awesome....

Well sad news either way, I regret not watching both that much, at least Beware the Batman will be on DVD.

Writing off Beware the Batman? Well, I can live with that...

Writing off Sym-Bionic Titan?

Companions,

can't say i care about either show getting the broadcasting axe. in terms of quality most episodes were decent at best and it was obvious from the get-go someone at cn didn't want them around. i won't watch the marathon of btb but i'll check out the remaining episodes whenever they hit netflix or dvd.

Well, that's a great shame. I will miss Sym-Bionic Titan and Beware the Batman. I am glad that Toonami was able to give them some extra airings after the poor treament they got, they achknowledged their worth. And this final Beware the Batman just proves why we should all have great respect for Toonami and their crew. This dedication to their shows is truly great. I don't know the exact deal with Clone Wars, but it's likely the rights being gone and of course they couldn't run the rest of it, just like they couldn't with InuYasha.

I was wondering about something. The originally planned schedule for October 4th had Hellsing lasting 1,5 hours, meaning their was no Bebop. With the rearranged schedule, wouldn't this mean Space Dandy doesn't begin reairing before October 11th?

Space Dandy will air on October 4 and be preempted on October 11. The BtB marathon pushes the longer HU episode down a week.

For those wondering, they'll rerun Dandy from season 1.

Although it is unfortunate to hear that Toonami is losing the rights to Beware the Batman and Sym-Bionic Titan in such an abrupt fashion, at least they are giving Batman a proper sendoff. At the very least, I think that we can all appreciate that this is the first (and likely only) time that the Toonami lineup will consist entirely of premieres, from start to finish. That's 6.5 hours of premieres in one night. Holy crap.

Ah, of course. I didn't think of that.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
