"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Let's assume it is the new series, do you see them putting in on at 2:30am for that effort?

Probably not, I'd imagine it'd be on at 2am at the absolute latest. Ideally I'd put it either at 11:30 or 12:30; keep in mind that Attack on Titan will be nearing the end of its second run by late March/April, so that might be as good a time as any to find something to take its place.

There is a petition asking Netflix to buy the rights to Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise from Nickelodeon.

It is never going to happen, but if Nick sold the rights, I think the perfect for the next Avatar: The Last Airbender universe series is Toonami. It would fit right in with Attack On Titan and Naruto if Bryke is serious of doing a series less kid friendly and more mature.

Honestly, I don't know if I could be excited for any new Avatar material like I was when Legend of Korra was first announced. I think that one of the original series' strengths was that it was still light-hearted enough for kids, but good writing and characters to appeal to both kids and adults. While I like Legend of Korra, I think a lot of that kind of appeal that grabbed kids' attention was lost and I'm not sure if the creators going even more mature would be a good idea. Besides that, something like this obviously isn't going to happen.

If Funi was dubbing Lupin, it wouldn't be starring Tony Oliver. Keep dreaming Josh.

Whatever. Guess I'm "an idiot' for just speculating about a potential show like everyone else in the thread was doing.

A TV series of Ghost in the Shell: Arise has been announced and will air in Japan in April. That's something I'd want to air and could see Toonami getting at some point.

That is, if Toonami would actually pick up something other than Stand Alone Complex all the time...

How much GitS media has been released in the last 10 years? We keep asking for AS/Toonami to pick up more entries in the franchise, yet it never happens.

Well, this is the only tv series other than Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2.

[as] has permanent rights to Stand Alone Complex. That's why they keep rerunning it so much. Also, we lost so much rerun material last year, so there's that. If there really is an Arise series coming, it'll most likely come to Toonami after it's dubbed.

I don't think he was trying to call you an idiot. He was just pointing out tht Tony Oliver doesn't do dubs for Funimation. If you look at his wikipedia page all the shows he has done that Funimation releases have been license rescues.

So it's Toonami Asia airing in Thailand then?

It's a separate feed from Toonami Asia, but it'll probably have the same look and similar shows as the pan-Asian channel.

Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
