My guess? This was another "blind" acquisition (i.e., they acquired it without even looking at it), and after they did see it, decided it wasn't worth talking about, and are now just "getting it out of the way", if you will. My understanding is that they have done this in the past. Either this, and/or they (randomly) decided that the show's online presence was enough...

EDIT: Okay, I was pretty much right about this episode. The first segment was just a self-tribute/self-parody that was clearly forced: if Tails had gotten out of his plane before it crashed, the episode would have ended early. However, the straw (for this segment) came when one of the potential sidekick candidates ended up being...Eggman. Oh yeah, and Knuckles. Who would never be Sonic's "sidekick" in a million years. Of source, Amy had to audition, but anyone even remotely familiar with the franchise knows why. Really, it wasn't funny. At all. Also, as I mentioned before, we all know how this ends. Heck, I personally think Sonic was going to take Tails back anyway, but Sonic being Sonic (it's part of the gag; get it?) simply won't come out and say it. As for the second segment, what we have here is generic sitcom-style story. Eggman needs Sonic's help? Sonic would NEVER be that stupid, but in this case, it's part of the gag. I decided that I had seen enough at this point. I'll keep watching for a little while longer in the hope that this isn't the entire series, but I've got to tell you, this is a VERY strong possibility, and if it is, I'm not even going to bother with the two games, since, as I've mentioned before, the games are a tie-in to the TV show, when it should be the other way around. The fact that Sega is directly involved in this one makes it even worse. Now before anyone gives the "laughing at themselves explanation, when one considers what Sega has done with the franchise in recent years (namely, trying to deal with the criticism and the broken base by making it so that everyone gets what they want out of each game), this isn't Sega "laughing at themselves" at all. Their actions have suggested to me that they're considering discontinuing the franchise altogether, officially. They just won't come out and say it directly, but that's actually for another discussion. Suffice it to say, I more or less called it, at least as far as this episode is concerned.
Believe me, I'm willing to give this show a chance, but so far it doesn't look good, at all...
