"Final Space" News & Discussion Thread (spoilers)

This series continues being good.
It is also becoming increasingly obvious that they are more interested in being a sci-fi adventure than a comedy.

After watching episode 3, yeah - this is definitely shaping up to be better than Bravest Warriors S4, IMHO - and something I think more people should watch when they get the chance. However, it does help that there is some comedy there, but also that it doesn't overpower what it feels like it's really trying to be, which is definitely a welcome site to take in.

Final Space, such an awesome new sci-fi adult cartoon, so my top favorite, it has the Rick and Morty-style awesomeness. Its got sweet animation/art style, amazing potential, great comedy/action, and great new sci-fi space adventures. After seeing episodes 1/2, I'll enjoy the next great enjoyable episodes:D.Conan O'Brien playing a role, sweet.

Both Gary, Mooncake, KVN, Quinn, and Avocado/Little Cado, great enjoyable new characters, Mooncake is so cute for a planet-destroying doomsday weapon and Avocado the best new unexpected ally, the Ice King/Starlight Glimmer/Peridot/Buff Frog-type and bees sympathetic on wanting to save Little Cado which was great.Gary loses a limb, but gets an artificial one, cool, like Finn(Adventure Time with Finn & Jake) and Edward Elric.Olan Rogers as Gary sounds like Will Arnette with that cool voice, hehehe.

Lord Commander, my favorite awesome new horrible vile alien overlord villain for his evil gain for Mooncake, love his great character design, and David Tennant as him, sweet.Next best horrible ruthless sadistic unsympathetic villain after Aku, Gibbs(Titan Maximum), General Modula, Bill Cipher, and Toffee:D.Both Terk and the other villains were great as well.

First episode was a decent start to a rather promising series. Main character himself can be obnoxious in some scenes, but otherwise he can be funny. The other characters are a lot better, though. Let me just say, Mooncake is already shaping up to be the best alien character I've seen in a cartoon (Even Roger Smith, who hadn't been constantly funny in years). The animation did reach my expectation, and I still stand my thoughts that it looks unusually fluid for an adult cartoon (this is a sci-fi adult animated series after all). The creator did say the show will eventually improve as it gets really good after episode 5.

In meantime: TBS had added 2 videos of Final Space, which it’s mostly the making of the first two episodes, more will be added ahead of time.

I really want to watch this show. I didn't get to watch it because:
TBS airs it when I'm asleep
I have to sign in with my cable provider to watch it on the tbs app and I hate doing that
On Amazon Prime I have to put a PIN and I don't know the PIN

But of the clips I watched, it was pretty solid. The animation is very fluid and IS NOT UGLY for once. Plus, Mooncake is so cute.

It should be On Demand, which should be through the cable box (in fact, I just checked and found the first 3 episodes there).

The main character totally looks like Mikey from "Recess".

I can't stress enough how much of a breath of fresh air it is to finally get an adult cartoon that actually has legit really good technicals. Like, an actually appealing art style, nice animation, really great sound design... it's like, damn why has it been so long? It feels like every other adult cartoon is trying way too hard to be either minimalist or avant garde a la South Park.

May I suggest Lastman, the animation is varies ranging from cheap to fantastic but its a good show

From my looks, this show has some potential. For once, it doesn't have an ugly art style, unnecessary shock value, unlikeable characters, and offensive humor. This could shape up to be another great adult cartoon like Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman. I'll definitely be tuning in for more episodes.

Second episode was an improvement, but it still feels flawed in some moments and I was bored at times. I can still see it getting better every passing episode though.

Thought the scene with Gary and Quinn's reunion was cringey but the rest of the episode was fantastic

You know, at first I thought Gary’s character was annoying. And while there are some aspects that still are, I’m liking how it’s implied he’s the way he is because he’s been devoid of interaction with living things for 5 years to the point that Kevin, the thing designed to keep him from going insane has lost its effect on him.

That being said, I’m loving the designs of this show. The writing tone might be skewed, but it’s definitely one of the most visually-appealing adult cartoons in a while. It’s not just bursts of impressive animation and backgrounds every once in a while, the whole show oozes with eye candy in practically every frame.

I know, and I'm probably overselling this but it really is amazing how long adult cartoons have gone without legit good technicals. Even most of the better ones generally suffer from not having much of a budget (Bojack Horseman, Bob's Burgers), but the vast majority of ones in recent years have been trying way too hard to be either minimalist or avant garde like South Park or stiff like Family Guy. So to finally get one that actually wants to be animated is such a breath of fresh air.

And that's one of the main reasons why I love this show so much.

I marathoned it yesterday myself, on TBS app on my Roku. I was expecting really goofy comedy in space but I wasn't expecting space opera and emotional moments that got to me. Outside of some things here and there, I really got into it.

This show is amazing, and it's probably the best new show I've discovered this season. Heard about it at WonderCon and just started watching it on a whim.

It's nice to have animated characters who are likable for a change. And yeah they are still flawed, but still generally likable good people.

No offense to Rick and Morty. I like Rick and Morty, but sometimes the show gets too dark and nihilistic for my tastes.

*twitches*

....well then. That happened. I don’t want to believe it, but it did. But I’m not gonna say it, in case folks don’t have the app.

What I WILL say is, my God, I LOVE looking at this show and will buy a million art-of books. It’s still mind blowing that EVERY episode so far has some fantastic backgrounds or charming character animation that’s not limited by the puppet rigs. Characters fall like they have weight, when they move, there’s actually secondary and even tertiary movement. I think I love it so much because the concept was trusted enough to be made this way. This show could have very easily been a Rick and Morty rip-off and copied the AS style with minimal shading and geometric character designs. They didn’t HAVE to have these elaborate backgrounds and effects, they didn’t have to try AT ALL, but SOMEONE said ‘let’s make this show look really good’ and golly gee, it started working when trailers came out and presented the show in a way westerners haven’t seen a cartoon presented in a while. It’s just a shame barely anyone is talking about it.

The art design for the show is gorgeous. According to Olan Rogers, they wanted to make space look like actual photos of space, so the animators took cues from actual photos given to them by NASA.

I'm also surprised by the complete lack of buzz with this show. Like it looks great. It's genuinely funny and has likable, charming characters.

Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
