Alex Toth 1928-2006

I always liked Mr. Toth. He was a very opinionated guy about the animation and comic industry. He never craved the limelight or celebrity his contemporaries achieved, but he respected by a lot of his elders and the next generation inspired by him.

I personally think that he personified a movement that will probably never be seen in animation again. Comics, maybe, but not in animation, which is sad to say.

He will be missed.

I always thought Toth's art was very pulpy looking, I love how stylized it is. Cool guy.

It is really sad to see that Alex Toth died. Oh well, at least he didn't die that painfully right? Still going while you're wriitng/drawing. That has to be kind of rough at least.

Even if Toth wasn't as thrilled with it, I still liked "Space Ghost" anyway, as well as his other animated designs (such as "The Superfriends"). Sad that he seemed to pass away at his writing/drawing table, as well.... :-(

^ That's called 'dying in harness', and I'd rather go that way than linger for years in a nursing home.

RIP, Mr. Toth.

Sad to hear, was he the same guy who got mad at Bruce Timm for his portrayal of Superman in STAS?

I wonder how many people here are REALLY familiar with his comic work? In the animation field he may have a small place in its history, but his comics work was truly fresh, innovative and elegant stuff. Pick up any of his romance comics from the 60s, or his stuff on the "Hot Wheels" comic. Not to mention countless war, western and crime stories.

Anyone who even has a smidgen of uncertainty about composition and layout should study his comics.

To celebrate the fact that I got three weeks off from work for rest, I watched today the latest installment in the separate Minions series of movies. What I loved was the unique logo variation of the Universal logo, which was akin to the plot taking place in the late 1800s
